Chapter 2: Reporting to the Teacher, Someone Was Secretly Reading Manhua
In the book, the second male lead, Qi Ze, and the Male Lead Qi Moyang were half-brothers, sharing the same father but different mothers.
His biological mother, Zhao Wenxin, was the cherished daughter of a wealthy and prestigious family—an only child deeply loved by her parents.
However, she fell in love with Qi Ze’s father, Qi Fengyuan, a man whose social standing and status were far inferior to hers. She married him despite her parents’ opposition.
But not long after Zhao Wenxin gave birth to Qi Ze, her parents died in a car accident. Left to care for her child and lacking business acumen, she gradually let the family business fall into the hands of her husband, Qi Fengyuan.
When Qi Ze was six years old, Zhao Wenxin discovered that Qi Fengyuan had an illegitimate child outside—a boy about the same age as Qi Ze, who would later become the Male Lead.
Only then did she realize that Qi Fengyuan was a hypocrite with a beastly heart, pretending to be virtuous while coveting her family’s wealth all along.
She wanted to divorce him, but by then the entire family company was under Qi Fengyuan’s control. For the sake of her child, she endured and fought with him for a year.
Eventually, she sank into depression and fell into the water, losing her life.
Not long after, Qi Fengyuan married the Male Lead’s mother, Li Li, and brought the Male Lead into the household.
He even spread the story to the public that he and Li Li were originally in love, but had been cruelly separated by Qi Ze’s mother, and now they could finally be together.
Afterward, although Qi Ze held the title of the eldest young master of the Qi family, his life was far from happy.
On the surface, his stepmother treated him as her own, but behind his back, she was anything but kind. His father paid no attention to him.
In such an environment, Qi Ze did not have an easy life. The female lead became the light in his dark world. A few moments of her care and concern gradually made him fall in love with her, a love that lasted from high school all the way to the end.
But after growing up, Qi Ze was determined to take revenge. He wanted to reclaim what rightfully belonged to the Zhao family. Yet, he was cruelly persecuted by his own father and eventually fell into the sea and died.
In the book, Qi Ze was portrayed as someone who appeared silent and gentle on the outside, but was cold-hearted within. He was only ever sincere to the female lead.
Jiang Mingyue crouched by the window at the back door, quietly revealing a pair of eyes to observe the classroom situation, wanting to see Qi Ze with her own eyes.
The little old man at the front was lecturing with rising and falling intonation, delivering a chemistry class with more emotion than a Chinese literature lesson.
The students below were all listening attentively, but a closer look would reveal many subtle movements.
For example, the male student sitting by the window just ahead.
The boy sat slightly sideways, his fair and slender hand propping up his head. From time to time, he glanced at the blackboard, looking as if he were seriously listening to the lecture.
If one weren’t standing so close, they wouldn’t have noticed that he was secretly reading Manhua.
Jiang Mingyue leaned in a little closer and managed to see the contents of the Manhua clearly.
The art style was sharp and unique, and the content looked quite interesting. Unconsciously, she found herself drawn in as well.
The boy seemed to sense her gaze and suddenly turned his head, locking eyes with her.
“….”
Jiang Mingyue’s heart skipped a beat.
The boy’s phoenix-like eyes lifted slightly, his gaze deep, like an icy pool with no visible bottom.
Looked at more closely, his eyes were like a lake’s surface—flat, dull, without a ripple.
His nose was tall and straight, his face fair and strikingly handsome.
It was Qi Ze!
Jiang Mingyue was momentarily stunned.
Only when she heard a faint “tsk” sound did she snap out of it.
Qi Ze had already turned his head back and resumed reading the Manhua.
Seeing he was about to turn the page, Jiang Mingyue quickly whispered: “Wait a second, don’t turn yet, let me look a bit more.”
Qi Ze’s hand paused briefly on the page, but he ignored her and continued flipping to the next one.
Jiang Mingyue softly pleaded: “Classmate, don’t be so stingy, I just need a couple more glances to finish this page.”
Seeing that he still ignored her, she had no choice but to give up and focus seriously on the newly turned page.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to finish that one either.
She had only read half of it when he was about to turn the page again. Jiang Mingyue quickly said:
“Don’t turn, let me see. If you don’t, I’ll tell the teacher you’re secretly reading Manhua.”
This time, Qi Ze didn’t even pause for a second—he wasn’t scared in the slightest.
Anger rose in her heart, and courage surged to her limbs.
Taking advantage of the little old man turning around to write on the blackboard, Jiang Mingyue quickly extended her sinful hand and grabbed the Manhua.
Qi Ze reacted quickly too, grabbing one corner of the Manhua and lowering his voice, saying: “What are you doing?”
Jiang Mingyue tugged hard in a silent tug-of-war. “Hehe, helping you, of course. You shouldn’t let these extracurricular things distract you during class.”
Qi Ze said: “…Let go!”
The little old man seemed to have noticed some movement on their side and turned around.
Jiang Mingyue seized the opportunity, yanked the book from his hand, and quickly squatted down.
Qi Ze: “……”
He suddenly caught sight of the water cup on his desk, and his handsome eyebrows lifted slightly.
He picked up the cup and took a small sip. Listening to the commotion outside, and while the teacher wasn’t paying attention, he quickly poured the water out the window.
“Mmgh…”
Hearing the noise outside, Qi Ze’s frown relaxed.
Jiang Mingyue was completely absorbed in reading, when suddenly water poured down all over her head, startling her so much she nearly cried out.
She didn’t even need to think to know what had happened, but Jiang Mingyue had no intention of getting back at him. After all, she was the one who started it. She might as well hurry up and read the Manhua.
118: 【……Host, what are you doing?】
“I’m getting to know Qi Ze.” Jiang Mingyue replied absentmindedly.
118: 【Is that so?】
“Yes, the first step in understanding him is starting with his hobbies.”
118: 【……】
It somehow didn’t quite believe her.
【Don’t try to fool me just because I’m young. If your mission doesn’t make progress, there will be consequences, you know.】
Jiang Mingyue paused in the middle of flipping the pages.
“What kind of consequences?”
118 remained composed: 【I won’t tell you for now. You’ll find out when you really need to.】
“Oh, fine then.” She continued reading the book.
【……】
118 felt a little bitter inside—this Host wasn’t easy to guide.
Whoa!
This Manhua was way too good!
It told the story of five modern men and women who traveled back to a martial arts world and were forced to grow under the pressure of blades and bloodshed—a passionate tale of perseverance and strength.
She had just finished reading about a quarter when the bell rang for the end of class.
Jiang Mingyue quickly tucked the book into the back of her waistband and stood up with her head down.
The teacher walked over with a cup in hand and stopped in front of her.
“From now on, pay attention in class. You’re already in your second year of high school. Time will fly, and by the time you get to the third year, you won’t even have time to study even if you want to.”
Jiang Mingyue nodded repeatedly: “Yes, yes, got it, teacher.”
“As long as you understand. Go on in.”
As soon as she got back to her seat, Jiang Mingyue immediately pulled out the Manhua and resumed reading.
Qi Ze didn’t come to take it back, so Jiang Mingyue sneakily read through two full periods and finally finished the book.
But that was only the first volume—there was still a second volume left.
