Chapter 8: Fixing the Dog

Chen Xiangyi pulled Jiang Mingyue’s sleeve, signaling her not to be too agitated, and then said: “At first, not many people believed it either because Qi Ze was handsome, seemed gentle, and had many girls who liked him.

Today was Friday, and school ended around 4 PM.

After a whole day of classes, Jiang Mingyue’s head felt so heavy she could barely lift it. As soon as school was over, she went home and collapsed onto her bed.

She didn’t know when she had fallen asleep, but when she woke up, it was already the next day at around 9 AM. She had slept for 15 hours.

As she just opened her eyes, she was momentarily disoriented, sitting dumbfounded on the bed.

【Still asleep?】118, seeing her dazed expression, couldn’t help but ask.

She decided to go out for a walk.

She couldn’t help but think how nice it was to have money.

Back in college, she had joined the photography club, and that’s when she fell in love with photography, especially taking pictures of handsome Xiao Gege.

As soon as she had the camera in her hands, she couldn’t wait to take pictures everywhere—of the clouds in the sky, the birds in the trees, the distant tall buildings, and the pedestrians at the street corner.

Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure in the lens.

Jiang Mingyue zoomed in, and the camera’s viewfinder clearly revealed Qi Ze’s flawless, jade-like face.

The young man stood at the street corner, staring ahead. The shadows of the surrounding buildings fell on him, creating a contrast—half of him in light, half in shadow, like a beautiful contradiction of art.

Jiang Mingyue quickly pressed the shutter button, capturing the moment.

She had intended to step forward and greet him, but when she saw Qi Ze take a phone call, he quickly walked away.

So, she continued in the direction she had been heading, snapping pictures along the way.

Qi Ze suddenly received a call from the pet hospital. The dog he had left there for boarding had gone missing, and he rushed to the hospital in a hurry.

Qi Ze: “What happened?”

The pet doctor stepped forward with an apologetic expression.

“We’re really sorry. It was our oversight. The dog you brought in is very smart, and somehow, it opened its own cage. This morning, when we opened the door, it ran out.”

“Didn’t you go looking for it? Why are you calling me now?” Qi Ze’s lips pressed into a slight frown.

The pet doctor repeatedly apologized.

“Actually, this isn’t the first time it’s run off. It’s happened a few times before, but it always came back on its own. So this time, we didn’t go looking right away. The pet doctor froze for a moment before pointing eastward: “It ran that way.”

Without saying another word, Qi Ze left the hospital and walked east.

He searched along the way but didn’t spot the Samoyed. However, the route felt increasingly familiar.

Suddenly, he remembered that it was near this very area, in an old park, where he had found the Samoyed. He immediately headed toward the park.

When he arrived, he spotted the Samoyed at once. But there was also a girl in a blue dress next to it. As he took a few steps forward and got a closer look at her face, he realized it was Jiang Mingyue.

How did she end up here?

At that moment, the Samoyed was happily wagging its tail, biting her skirt, and pulling her forward as if it wanted her to go somewhere. Jiang Mingyue, in turn, cooperated and walked along.

Suddenly, Jiang Mingyue turned her head and saw him. Her eyes lit up, and she happily said: “Qi Ze, what are you doing here?”

She hadn’t expected to run into Qi Ze again.

She had been taking photos nearby and, feeling a bit thirsty, went to the supermarket to buy a bottle of water. After leaving the store, she noticed the little Samoyed and found it quite cute, so she bought some bread to feed it. To her surprise, the dog wouldn’t leave her alone.

It kept rubbing against her and wouldn’t let go, biting her skirt and pulling her into the park.

She guessed there must be other dogs like it in the park, so she bought some more food and followed it.

Suddenly, 118 informed her that Qi Ze had arrived, and as she turned, she saw him standing not far away.

The Samoyed also saw Qi Ze, barked excitedly, and ran toward him, rubbing its head against his leg.

Qi Ze crouched down and gently rubbed its head. “How did you end up here?”

His voice was still cold, but there was a hint of barely noticeable warmth in it, like a mountain stream.

The scene was so beautiful that Jiang Mingyue couldn’t help but press the shutter button.

When Qi Ze heard the sound, he looked up at her. Jiang Mingyue didn’t feel the slightest bit of awkwardness from being caught taking a photo. Instead, she crouched down and rubbed the Samoyed, smiling as she asked him: “Do you know this little dog? I was taking photos around here, and it led me to this park. I think there must be other dogs like it here.”

Qi Ze nodded. “I found it by accident a while ago.” he said, then lightly tapped the Samoyed’s forehead with his finger.

The Samoyed barked twice, then ran a couple of steps before barking again, signaling them to follow.

The park was quite old, with tall, lush trees and abundant flowers. It was undergoing renovations, with high-rise buildings being constructed around it, but there were few residents nearby.

So, at that moment, the park was quiet with hardly anyone around.

The Samoyed led them down a small path, and suddenly, they heard a dog’s bark.

The Samoyed leading the way paused for a moment before eagerly barking and sprinting forward.

The two of them were momentarily stunned, but then they heard more frantic barking, along with a dog’s agonized cry.

They immediately started running.

Qi Ze, with his long legs, quickly caught up with her after just a few strides.
