In such a situation, having a hearty appetite on regular days had its benefits. A strong body could withstand the challenges of these exam days.
With a smirk, Song Jingyun lowered his head to tackle the final questions.
Given his thorough knowledge of the subjects and no need for rewriting, he answered faster than others. By the afternoon of the second day, Song Jingyun had completed all the questions.
Unable to leave the exam room before time, he had to wait in his designated area.
Inside his assigned room, he had everything needed – a kettle, charcoal basin, and food supplies. If hungry, he could heat up a meal, and if thirsty, he could boil some water.
Passing time in his room, Song Jingyun took out the food supplies, trying to create different dishes to alleviate the boredom. Considering the subpar quality of the food provided at the Imperial College, he sought to make something more palatable.
Taking the plain steamed bun as an example, it was nothing out of the ordinary, lacking any distinctive flavors, resulting in a bland taste.
Song Jingyun took matters into his own hands, breaking the bun into small pieces and placing them on the charcoal fire to toast lightly. The toasted buns developed a crispy, crunchy crust, making them fragrant and delicious.
Absolutely delightful!
Enjoying his meal, the aroma of the toasted buns wafted from his room, drifting subtly into neighboring rooms where other exam candidates could catch a whiff.
Hmm, that smells amazing.
Where is that fragrance coming from?
It seems like a candidate in one of the nearby rooms is toasting buns.
In the midst of the Autumn Examination, this person truly has the luxury to indulge in such activities, deserving admiration indeed.
Oh, this person seems to have finished answering the questions on that stack of paper already. In just a short amount of time, they’ve completed all the questions. What a remarkable talent!
Suddenly feeling a bit disheartened, the fragrance of the toasted buns no longer seemed as pleasant.
…
After a moment of contemplation, the candidates in the surrounding rooms shook their heads, refocusing on their own exam papers.
Meanwhile, Song Jingyun continued to enjoy his toasted buns.
Delicious!
For the remaining day and a half, Song Jingyun passed the time by preparing and savoring different foods.
He spent one afternoon toasting buns and the next day baking cakes and sweet potatoes.
All delicious!
The first round of exams quickly concluded.
With a break of half a day between the three rounds of exams, allowing candidates to leave the Imperial College and return in the afternoon, many took this time to freshen up at their inns, change into fresh clothes, and enjoy a hearty meal.
Song Jingyun was no exception, considering these arrangements.
Alongside the others leaving the Imperial College, Song Jingyun had barely descended the steps before spotting Jiang Mixia in the crowd. Like a sparrow, he eagerly flew towards her.
“My wife,” Song Jingyun exclaimed with joy. “I knew you would come to pick me up.”
“Of course, I had to come for you,” Jiang Mixia replied with a smile.
“Indeed, it’s a significant event that must be taken seriously,” Xun Yuanbai chimed in from the side.
“Master Xun is here too? You startled me with that sudden remark,” Song Jingyun exclaimed, patting his chest in a mock dramatic fashion, looking as if he had just survived a fright.
Xun Yuanbai: “…”
Seemingly devoid of presence, he realized he was overshadowed in this young man’s eyes by his beloved wife!
Quite exasperating.
The streets outside the Imperial College were bustling with people, making it difficult for carriages to navigate. Since their inn wasn’t far, the three of them decided to walk back together.
“During the exams, did anything interesting happen?” Jiang Mixia engaged Song Jingyun in conversation as they walked along the road.
