“If that’s the case, there’s no need for further courtesy between us. Let’s get straight to the point.”
“Since Jingyun became a son-in-law of our Jiang family by marriage, he will remain so for life. There’s no need to entertain the idea of taking him back. We won’t agree to it, nor can we.”
“I have matters to attend to, so I won’t keep you any longer. Please leave.”
Jiang Mixia called for Zhucui and Chengmao, “Escort our guests out, please.”
Unaware of the tension, Zhucui and Chengmao observed Song Fengshou and Tang Shi as they entered the courtyard, noticing their unmistakable greed. After a lengthy conversation with Jiang Mixia inside, she was visibly upset, instructing the siblings to see the guests out, clearly expressing her dissatisfaction with the couple.
Known for her kindness and gentleness, Jiang Mixia’s anger and decision to dismiss guests indicated the couple’s unpleasant demeanor.
Considering this, Zhucui and Chengmao escorted Song Fengshou and Tang Shi out of the premises.
Song Fengshou and Tang Shi naturally refused to leave.
Firstly, since the matter was unresolved and Jiang Mixia refused to send Song Jingyun back to the Song family, they were deeply dissatisfied.
Secondly, as elders to Song Jingyun and Jiang Mixia, they felt that Jiang Mixia’s dismissal was not only disrespectful but also highly embarrassing.
“Niece-in-law!” Song Fengshou, his eyes wide with anger, shouted at Jiang Mixia, “Don’t make a mistake and ruin Jingyun’s bright future to side with that criminal!”
“Exactly!” echoed Tang Shi, “If Jingyun continues as a son-in-law, his future prospects will fade. Your clear calculations are leading Jingyun into a pit of fire!”
“We’ve inquired before coming. Your current prosperity is largely due to Jingyun’s contributions. Even your recovery from naivety is thanks to the joy he brought you.”
“Now that Jingyun has become a scholar, instead of considering his well-being, you want to keep him tied down, dragging him until he meets his demise. Is that what you desire?”
“Let me be frank. Whether you agree or not, Jingyun will return to our Song family. If not, we will take this matter to the authorities. If that happens, Jingyun will dismiss you, and you’ll end up with nothing!”
“Bringing up the authorities, Auntie, you’ve reminded me.”
Jiang Mixia calmly remarked, “If you return home obediently and behave properly, all will be fine. But if you continue causing trouble, we might as well settle this at the magistrate’s office.”
“Jingyun’s marriage to our Jiang family was legally formalized. He holds a respectable position everywhere, without any faults to be found. Even before the county magistrate, there is no room to simply retract the marriage.”
“As for the matter of Uncle and Auntie seizing Jingyun’s property, we can address this before the county magistrate. According to the current laws, Jingyun, as a rightful heir, can inherit those properties without the need to hand them over to Uncle’s family.”
“Even if Jingyun is in the Jiang family now, those assets remain his. Given Jingyun’s current status as a scholar, and possibly achieving higher ranks in the future, even the county magistrate should know how to proceed.”
