After Jiang Mixia had satisfied her urge to retaliate, and Chengmao and Zhucui had exhausted their energy, they finally opened the gates of the courtyard.
Song Fengshou and Tang Shi, in no state to argue further with Jiang Mixia, fled in a panic, running along the alleyway, heads bowed low, and hurriedly escaping through the backstreets.
Without daring to halt their pace, they only stopped at the intersection of the main street, leaning against a neighbor’s wall, catching their breath.
“That wretched Jiang Mixia is truly outrageous… Ouch!”
Tang Shi winced as her movements aggravated the wounds on her face, grimacing in pain, taking in a sharp breath.
“That wretched woman is truly ruthless, behaving like a rural peasant, utterly uncivilized! With Jingyun destined for a high official position, having such a barbaric wife by his side would be a cause for ridicule!”
Despite the pain, Song Fengshou, still indignant, remarked, “With the Jiang family’s upbringing, Jingyun could be seriously affected in the future. It’s imperative for him to return to his roots and distance himself from the uncouth individuals in the Jiang family.”
“Jingyun’s return must not be in vain!” Tang Shi interjected, “After all the money he earned for the Jiang family, we can’t let them benefit without consequence. We must reclaim what rightfully belongs to us.”
Observing the luxuries in Jiang Mixia’s household, the vases, furniture, and even the embroidered satin shoes she wore, it was evident that their extravagant lifestyle was funded by the money earned through Jingyun’s efforts.
Jingyun’s earnings were the family’s earnings, rightfully belonging to the main branch for their use.
“That’s right,” Song Fengshou nodded in agreement.
The challenge now lay in how to bring Jingyun back.
Dealing with the fierce Jiang Mixia, as well as Jiang Youcheng and Liu Shi, who were no pushovers, was bound to be difficult.
There was a possibility that the entire Jiang family village might turn against them, forcing them out.
If that were to happen, could they turn to the village elders of the Song family for help?
Considering that reclaiming Jingyun would essentially make him a member of the Song family village, representing their honor, the villagers would likely support their efforts.
As Song Fengshou pondered their next steps, something suddenly fell with a heavy thud near his feet, startling both him and Tang Shi.
The weighty object hit the ground with a loud “clang,” prompting Song Fengshou and Tang Shi to quickly move aside.
“Who in the world would randomly toss…?”
Tang Shi was cut off mid-sentence, the word “something” stuck in her throat.
Upon realizing that the object by their feet was not just a piece of brick or debris but a substantial chunk of silver, Tang Shi exclaimed, “There’s silver here!” Hastily picking it up, she wiped it clean with her sleeve.
“In broad daylight, talking about dreams!”
Of all things, silver falling from the sky in broad daylight! What a peculiar occurrence!
“It’s real, it’s silver!” Tang Shi insisted, placing the chunk of silver in Song Fengshou’s hand. “Look, it’s genuine silver.”
Song Fengshou examined the shiny silver piece in his hand, feeling its weight and giving it a cautious bite.
“It’s indeed silver!” Song Fengshou exclaimed with joy. “This chunk must weigh over ten taels!”
“Yes, we’re striking it rich!” Tang Shi exclaimed, rubbing her hands in excitement.
Despite the earlier altercation with the detestable Jiang Mixia, the discovery of such a large piece of silver had instantly brightened their mood, offsetting their previous frustration.
“Let’s go, let’s treat ourselves to a good meal first,” Song Fengshou said, tucking the silver into his pocket.
Just as they were about to leave, there was suddenly a commotion behind them.
