“What is this?” Jiang Mixia asked as she received the items handed to her by Song Jingyun, opening them up to take a look.
They were neatly stacked papers—land deeds, property deeds, promissory notes, and such.
Upon closer inspection, the land deeds were for Song Village, which meant…
“All of these were the possessions unlawfully seized by Uncle and Aunt,” Song Jingyun explained. “I recently filed a lawsuit at the magistrate’s office and Magistrate Lin, being diligent, swiftly mediated and restored justice within a few days.”
Song Jingyun smiled, “Not only did he help me reclaim these items, but he also punished Uncle and Aunt, sentencing them to two years of hard labor. Now, Uncle and Aunt will think twice before mistreating me and you, Wife.”
So that’s how it happened.
No wonder these past few days, her husband seemed to be holding some joyous news close to his heart, unable to fully express his happiness.
Reclaiming what was taken from him, ensuring the wrongdoers faced consequences, was indeed a reason to rejoice.
However…
After some thought, Jiang Mixia placed the items on the table, then sat down beside Song Jingyun, looking at him intently. After a moment of silence, she hesitated before speaking, “Recovering these items and seeing justice served is a joyous occasion, and I share in your happiness.”
“But there is something I’d like to ask you about,” she continued.
“What matter requires you to be so serious, Wife?” Song Jingyun reached out, gently tucking a strand of hair behind Jiang Mixia’s ear.
His gesture was full of tenderness.
“Although your uncle and aunt have questionable intentions, returning to your ancestral home is a desire many hold. Are you truly no longer willing to return to your roots?” Jiang Mixia inquired.
“That’s right,” Song Jingyun nodded. “Once I entered your family, I became your husband, a part of your family. There’s no reason for me to go back.”
“Moreover, as you mentioned before, as a son-in-law, if I don’t obey you, don’t show proper respect to my parents, I might end up dead. I fear death and wish to savor many delicious meals in the future, so I’ll follow your words for the rest of my life.”
Hence, he decided to listen to his wife always.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Mixia couldn’t help but chuckle.
Her husband still remembered the words she used to scare him when he first woke up, fearing that his extraordinary behavior might attract unwanted attention due to his interstellar soul. Those words were merely spoken in jest.
In theory, after living in this world for so many years, studying extensively, and experiencing a variety of encounters, Song Jingyun should have been able to discern that Jiang Mixia’s words were merely meant to scare him.
Yet, he remembered and fully believed them.
“Yes, yes,” Jiang Mixia understood Song Jingyun’s mindset and chuckled, “Indeed, it’s all about enjoying delicious food. Since the weather is cold today, I’ve had Zhucui and Chengmao prepare a stew with lamb. Later, we’ll cook some noodles to go with it, and we can enjoy a warm meal together.”
“Great,” Song Jingyun smiled and playfully pecked Jiang Mixia’s lips.
After dinner, he must savor his wife.

Song Jingyun studied at the county school until he returned to Jiang Village with Jiang Mixia around the Lantern Festival.
They celebrated the New Year joyfully at home, and after the Lantern Festival, Jiang Mixia and Song Jingyun set out once again.
The Spring Imperial Examination was scheduled for the ninth day of the third month. Traveling to the capital from here was inconvenient by water, so they had to take the land route, making several stops along the way. This journey would take about a month.
Setting out at this time, and allowing for a few days of rest in the capital upon arrival, the timing would work out perfectly.
