Chapter 04.1
Tang Yi’s final grades met her parents’ expectations, and during the entire winter vacation, as long as there was nothing else to do, she would hang out with Jiang Qiaosheng and a few others in the game. Her relationship with Jiang Qiaosheng also became more and more familiar, and they would chat, complain, and occasionally make some harmless jokes.
She also learned that he liked to listen to Eason Chan’s songs, liked Quentin Tarantino and Stephen Chow’s movies, and disliked coriander and eggplant.
However, all this familiarity and closeness were limited to the game. In reality, for Jiang Qiaosheng, she was still an extremely unfamiliar presence.
After the winter vacation, the third year of high school entered the sprint period, and Jiang Qiaosheng only went online on weekends. Throughout the semester, Tang Yi only saw him three times at school.
The first time was when she and Lin Yang went to the third year area to hand in their English homework. While chatting with Lin Yang on the stairs, they unintentionally climbed to the wrong floor and passed by the entrance of the science experiment class.
It was really a coincidence that day.
Jiang Qiaosheng happened to be sitting by the window, wearing black headphones and quickly writing something.
Tang Yi didn’t dare linger, she just glanced and quickly looked away, spending the rest of the way guessing what he was listening to on his headphones.
Not long after that, Tang Yi encountered him again on the basketball court.
It was already dusk, Jiang Qiaosheng and several boys were chatting and laughing as they came out of the basketball court. Tang Yi was walking in front, deliberately slowing down her steps, waiting for that moment of passing by.
The young people were full of vigor, mixed with the wind of late spring, making Tang Yi feel that the air around her was faintly tinged with his warmth.
She secretly rejoiced in this seemingly accidental but actually full of the young girl’s countless little tricks encounter, silently following his figure, collecting countless small things related to him.
The last time they met was at the beginning of summer.
That day, the senior class was taking graduation photos, and the lively sounds could be heard from a distance, and Tang Yi’s seat was right opposite the place where they were taking photos.
Her mind was completely on the window during the class.
When the class was about to end, she was called up by the English teacher to answer a question.
She stammered, not knowing what the question was, and Lin Yang reminded her in a voice as soft as a mosquito, but she couldn’t hear a word.
This action irritated Teacher Wang, who asked Tang Yi to stand and listen to the class, and just as the bell rang, she asked her to come to the office.
Teacher Wang was the homeroom teacher of a certain liberal arts class in the third year of high school, and her office was naturally located in the third year area.
Along the way, Tang Yi was nervous and apprehensive, both hoping for something to happen and worrying about encountering Jiang Qiaosheng at such an awkward moment.
Unfortunately, nothing happened along the way.
Tang Yi was criticized and also took on the job of class representative, carrying a stack of homework books out of the office, with unfamiliar faces in school uniforms all around.
She harbored a faint hope, trying to find that familiar figure in the crowd.
But not paying attention while walking has its consequences, and Tang Yi was knocked down by a sudden force from behind, falling directly from the unfinished stairs to the platform at the turn.
She had been in a very serious car accident, and not only was her leg broken, but there was also a long scar on the outside of her calf.
Tang Yi hugged her knees, cold sweat pouring down as she was in pain.
The boy who knocked her down was at a loss, and the girls who came later wanted to see where she was injured, carefully lifting her school uniform pants.
The long scar was exposed.
There were quite a few exclamations around, but Tang Yi no longer cared, the pain almost making her unable to speak: “Can I borrow a phone to make a call?”
“I’ll find it for you.” The girl turned around to borrow a phone.
Quickly, along with the phone came a familiar person.
Jiang Qiaosheng pushed his way through the crowd and squatted down in front of Tang Yi, together with the girl, waiting for her to finish the call, and then asked, “Did you hurt your knee?”
Tang Yi nodded slightly.
Jiang Qiaosheng’s gaze fell on her leg, and Tang Yi knew what he would see, so she unconsciously moved her leg, feeling a bit embarrassed.
But Jiang Qiaosheng didn’t say anything, he just gently lowered the rolled-up pant leg: “Let’s take you to the school infirmary first.”
The boy who had knocked her down actively offered to carry Tang Yi up from the ground, and the previous girl followed. Tang Yi looked back as they went downstairs.
The crowd around dispersed, and Jiang Qiaosheng squatted in the same spot, silently picking up the scattered notebooks on the ground.
On the way to the school infirmary, Tang Yi learned that they were classmates with Jiang Qiaosheng. The boy was called Yang Cheng, and the girl was called Wen Jing.
Yang Cheng kept apologizing, and Tang Yi, sitting on the bed in the infirmary, had recovered from the most intense pain. Her voice a little hoarse as she said: “It’s okay, I wasn’t paying attention while walking.”
The school nurse couldn’t diagnose bone issues, so she could only give Tang Yi a simple treatment for the scratches on her hand.
Wen Jing had other matters to attend to and did not stay long. After she left, Jiang Qiaosheng came.
He came empty-handed, and Tong Yi was wondering where those homework books had gone.
Jiang Qiaosheng asked a few questions about her condition, put his hand on Yang Cheng’s shoulder, and looked at Tang Yi without saying anything.
Tang Yi’s father and mother came quickly, and Tang Yi was carried downstairs by her father. Before getting into the car, she looked back at the two figures standing in the distance.
“Senior, I’m sorry for delaying your graduation photo shoot today.” Tang Yi hesitated for a few seconds, then said, “I wish you a happy graduation.”
Yang Cheng probably still felt guilty and didn’t say much, only Jiang Qiaosheng lightly smiled and said, “Thank you, junior sister.”
Tang Yi kept thinking about that smile even when the car had driven far away.
Just as good-looking and heartwarming as when they first met.
