Song Wennuan rolled her eyes at Jiang Shanshan. “Did Qiao’an tell you I went on a date?”
“No, she said she saw a woman whose back looked like you. I got curious, so I waited on the balcony. But I ended up seeing you with someone.” Jiang Shanshan’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Tell me, when did this start? How far along are you two?”
Song Wennuan poured herself a glass of water and sat down on the sofa. “That’s my colleague. We have a strictly professional relationship. There’s nothing else between us.”
Jiang Shanshan joined her on the sofa. “How is that possible? Why would he send you home, then?”
Song Wennuan took a sip of water. “My colleague is married with a child. Today, I accompanied him to choose a piece of jewelry for his wife. Since it was getting late, he offered me a ride home.”
Jiang Shanshan looked at Song Wennuan nervously. “Could he be a scumbag?”
Song Wennuan laughed at Jiang Shanshan’s reaction. “No, he and his wife are having some misunderstandings. Actually, a coworker suggested the jewelry idea. He originally asked an older female colleague to go with him, but she had an emergency, so I stepped in.”
Jiang Shanshan breathed a sigh of relief. “Okay, that makes sense. But what kind of misunderstanding could they be having?”
“I don’t know all the details. According to my colleagues, his wife often suspects him of cheating. Apparently, she used to cause trouble at his workplace, but things improved after they had a child. Recently, though, she heard some rumors and started acting up again. My colleague has tried everything to appease her. It was a senior colleague who suggested buying jewelry as a peace offering.”
“You should still keep your distance. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. His wife wouldn’t be suspicious for no reason.”
Song Wennuan shook her head. “I thought the same at first. But our colleagues say that to avoid misunderstandings, he hasn’t been to any social events or drinking parties since he got married. He never interacts with female colleagues alone, goes home right after work, and brings his wife along if he has to socialize. Even so, she still makes scenes at his office.”
Jiang Shanshan was stunned. “What is he thinking? Why doesn’t he just divorce her?”
“He considered it, but just when he was about to file for divorce, his wife got pregnant. They’ve been enduring it for the sake of their child. My colleague just wants some peace and a healthy environment for his son to grow up in.”
Jiang Shanshan nodded. “Still, be careful around your colleague. It sounds like a dangerous situation.”
“This is a special circumstance. I’ll avoid interacting with him outside of work as much as possible.” Song Wennuan smiled and squeezed Jiang Shanshan’s arm. “Darling, I’m hungry. Do you have anything to eat?”
“Of course! Did you think I wouldn’t have food waiting?” Jiang Shanshan got up to serve Song Wennuan.
After returning home, Shen Yanming and Bi Qiao’an immediately took off their coats and entered the villa in their space. They enjoyed a relaxing bath in the bathtub. Bi Qiao’an soaked in the warm water, feeling so comfortable that she almost didn’t want to get out. However, the man beside her was feeling playful, touching her here and there.
Ultimately, their passion took them from the bathroom to the bedroom, where they explored various positions. There was no stopping them; on regular days, they were both too dirty to feel truly aroused. Faced with each other’s greasy faces and messy hair, it was really hard to get in the mood.
The entire weekend, the two didn’t leave their space. They picked fruits, harvested crops, and fed the chickens, ducks, and other animals. The small animals grew very quickly; in just over a month, the chicks and ducklings had matured, and some had even started laying eggs. The piglets, lambs, and calves were also half-grown, their growth cycle accelerated.
Bi Qiao’an used her consciousness to separate a portion of the hens, ducks, and geese, raising them by the pond. This would allow her to collect eggs with peace of mind. As for those raised at the foot of the mountain, they would multiply and thrive on their own.
Seeing Bi Qiao’an sitting by the lake eating cherries, Shen Yanming took a knife from the kitchen and headed towards the pigs and sheep. But before he could reach the piglets, they scattered.
Shen Yanming awkwardly rubbed his nose. “Well, they’re still young. Let them enjoy their carefree lives a bit longer.” Bi Qiao’an nodded with a smile. He then used his consciousness to retrieve a fishing net from storage and went to catch fish from the lake.
After more than a month of growth, the fish fry had grown large, and some had even spawned. Shen Yanming scooped down with his net and caught three big fish in one go.
He held up the net and grinned at Bi Qiao’an. “Look at my skills! So many with one catch. Qiao’an, wait here. I’ll gut and scale them right away.”
Bi Qiao’an raised an eyebrow, awaiting the show.
Fish tails are powerful, and these struggled in the net. Shen Yanming held the net firmly and dumped the fish onto the ground. They flopped around wildly, splattering mud everywhere.
Wiping mud off his face, Shen Yanming eyed the fish. A hint of hesitation flickered in his eyes. Hmm, he didn’t quite dare to touch them.
He wanted to give up, but Bi Qiao’an’s amused gaze spurred him on. Shen Yanming closed his eyes and brought the knife down.
Bi Qiao’an gasped in shock. She hadn’t expected him to actually have the guts to do it. Shen Yanming wiped the warm blood off his face, taking a long moment to compose himself. When he opened his eyes, he saw the fish had been cut in half.
The fish were definitely dead, but inedible; he had accidentally punctured the gallbladder.
Shen Yanming and Bi Qiao’an stared at the bloody mess and fought back a wave of nausea.
Forget it. They admitted defeat. Butchering wasn’t their talent. Shen Yanming decided to wait for the fish to die from dehydration and then dispose of them in the storage area.
Perhaps by the time they finished the processed stock in storage, they would have no choice but to master the “butcher” skill. But that was far in the future. After all, they had plenty of meat in storage.
Life in the space was too addictive. It wasn’t until Monday morning that Shen Yanming and Bi Qiao’an finally emerged from the space filled with the fragrance of flowers and fruits.
They changed into their dirty clothes from last Friday, grabbed their bags and lunches, and prepared for work. Stepping outside, they were momentarily overwhelmed.
Why? The air smelled a bit unpleasant after their time in the space.
