After Getting Pregnant, The Celibate Buddhist Fiercely Dotes on His Beloved Wife Chapter 11

Chapter 11: The Elderly Lady

After spending about half an hour in the room, Aunt Fu adjusted the temperature of the air conditioner and covered Wei Yuxian with a blanket once the room cooled down. Then she left the room.

In the living room, Mrs. Fu was still talking with Fu Xuanyi about Wei Yuxian. Seeing Aunt Fu coming out, Mrs. Fu asked, “How is she?”

Aunt Fu replied, “The temperature has dropped, and the lady is sleeping more peacefully now.”

As the temperature dropped, the room became exceptionally comfortable. Coupled with the soft bed beneath her, Wei Yuxian slept even more soundly.

She slept until after three o’clock, feeling the surrounding environment was very pleasant, cool, and the blanket covering her body was just right—not too cold, not too hot.

Huh? A blanket?

She remembered not covering herself with a blanket when she fell asleep. How come she was now covered with one?

And she remembered the room being very hot, so how come it now felt so comfortable?

Wei Yuxian sat up in bed, looking around and hearing the sound of the air conditioner running in the room. She glanced over and indeed saw the air conditioner dutifully operating, set at 26 degrees!

When did she turn on the air conditioner?! She clearly didn’t do it!

No wonder she woke up feeling so comfortable. It turned out it was because the air conditioner was on!

So she got up, freshened up in the brand-new bathroom with new toiletries, and stepped out of the room, intending to ask Aunt Fu what was going on.

Aunt Fu was the housekeeper and would likely know what was happening.

Wei Yuxian descended the stairs step by step, looking for Aunt Fu’s figure. Before she could find her, Fu Xuanyi and an unfamiliar elderly woman entered her line of sight in the living room.

The elderly woman appeared quite old, bearing some resemblance to Fu Xuanyi, but her demeanor was no less imposing!

Wei Yuxian immediately guessed the identity of this elderly woman — Mrs. Fu.

She had initially planned to avoid the gaze of the two and find Aunt Fu. After all, given her current status, it might not be favorable to be seen by Mrs. Fu.

As a woman carrying Fu Xuanyi’s child without a proper status, the old lady might not approve of her. It would be better not to soil the old lady’s eyes with her presence.

With these thoughts, Wei Yuxian felt a pang in her heart. She lightened her footsteps and headed elsewhere.

Unexpectedly, as soon as her figure appeared at the staircase landing, the two in the living room noticed her.

Mrs. Fu was still waiting for her to come over and greet her, seated on the sofa, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the young lady.

However, Wei Yuxian made a sudden turn, heading in another direction, her face tinged with a hint of self-consciousness.

Mrs. Fu couldn’t be unaware of what Wei Yuxian had just been thinking. She might have feared that Wei Yuxian would perceive her as unwelcome, hence her hesitation to approach.

This child, she really…

Mrs. Fu had always felt sorry for her, seeing her as a pitiable child. Now, she felt even more strongly that Wei Yuxian was a poor little soul lacking love.

“Yuxian,” she called out, halting the person who was about to walk away.

Wei Yuxian stiffened all over, freezing in place, visibly tense.

She was facing away from Mrs. Fu, so nobody could see it, but the expression on her face at that moment was one of utter helplessness.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves, and slowly turned around, forcing a smile as she asked, “H-hello… Is there something you need?”

Fu Xuanyi and his mother exuded a strong presence, and sitting together, they seemed even more imposing. Wei Yuxian’s speech faltered in their presence.

At this moment, she felt both inferior and afraid. She feared that Mrs. Fu would look down on her, considering her to be a country bumpkin unworthy of standing in the lofty realm of the Fu household.

Growing up in such an environment, where few people showed her affection, even her closest family members harbored mostly disdain for her. This had made Wei Yuxian extremely lacking in confidence.

Mrs. Fu couldn’t contain her heartache any longer. Her expression softened, attempting to comfort the easily startled young woman.

Her tone was gentle as she said, “Yuxian, come here.”

Wei Yuxian’s body became even stiffer, her usually light footsteps now heavy as if laden with lead!

She didn’t want to move, didn’t want to walk over. Although Mrs. Fu’s expression appeared very kind, Wei Yuxian still felt intimidated by the dignified aura emanating from her.

But when Mrs. Fu spoke, she had no choice but to comply. If she displeased Mrs. Fu, her days might become even more difficult.

In order to live a better life in the Fu residence in the future, and to safely give birth to her child, Wei Yuxian suppressed her fear and took slow, hesitant steps forward.

Her movements were extremely slow, like an elderly person in their twilight years.

Fu Xuanyi watched her approach with an expressionless face, saying nothing, simply observing silently, his inner thoughts hidden from view.

However long the road, there would always be an end. With Wei Yuxian not far from Mrs. Fu, she quickly reached her. After hesitating for a moment, she respectfully bowed her head and addressed, “Mrs. Fu.”

She placed herself in a humble position, akin to the servants of the Fu household.

Mrs. Fu reached out and grasped the hand Wei Yuxian had placed on her abdomen, saying, “There’s no need for such formality.”

Wei Yuxian, feeling a bit anxious, lifted her head with a somewhat panicked expression. She wanted to withdraw her hand, fearing she might accidentally hurt Mrs. Fu with too much force, but found herself unable to resist as Mrs. Fu firmly held onto it and pulled her forward, guiding her to sit on the sofa.

“Yuxian, there’s no need to be scared. I’m not a villain,” Mrs. Fu said gently.

Unable to retrieve her hand, Wei Yuxian could only let Mrs. Fu lead her, feeling anxious and uneasy. “I dare not,” she replied.

Mrs. Fu patted her hand reassuringly. “There’s no need to be afraid. I have no ill intentions towards you. I just want to have a chat.”

Wei Yuxian nervously swallowed and felt cold sweat forming on her forehead. “Please, go ahead,” she said.

“I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, I’m Xuanyi’s mother,” Mrs. Fu continued.

Wei Yuxian maintained a forced smile on her face. “Yes, I guessed. You’re Master Xuanyi’s mother.”

“I know that you’re carrying Xuanyi’s child. He brought you here to ensure you have peace of mind during your pregnancy, so you don’t need to worry about anything. Just stay here and be at ease,” Mrs. Fu reassured.

“And you might not be aware, but our Fu family has faced difficulties in producing heirs for generations. Now that you carry the blood of the Fu family in your womb, we won’t let it be lost to the outside world,” she added.

“It’s been  tough for you.”
