Chapter 2: The Blind Date Is So Handsome
Bai Wei listened and thought, this actually sounded pretty good.
But with such good conditions, why would he need to go on a blind date? If everything about him was that great, shouldn’t he already have a girlfriend?
Could it be… Does he have some unspeakable condition?
Bai Wei was embarrassed by her own wild speculation.
Still, considering his impressive qualifications, she figured there was no harm in checking it out. It was just a blind date—if they weren’t a match, she could simply say no. At least it would stop her mother from nagging her constantly, so she agreed.
The blind date was scheduled for three days later, at a restaurant near her home.
Thinking the guy might be handsome, Bai Wei put some effort into her look. She wore a pair of jeans, which were very trendy in that era, paired with a simple T-shirt. She tied up her hair, leaving some baby strands loose to make her face look smaller.
In truth, Bai Wei wasn’t from this world. She had transmigrated here about half a month ago. This world was from a book called Rebirth in the 80s: Hoarding a Siheyuan, and she had become the older cousin of the novel’s female lead, Bai Qiangwei.
In the book, the original owner of this body was just a background character—not even given a name.
She was twenty-two, had never dated anyone, and her family was starting to worry that she might never find a boyfriend. That was why they were so eager to arrange blind dates for her.
After finishing high school, the original Bai Wei hadn’t gotten into university and didn’t want to retake the entrance exam. She had gone straight to work and was currently writing letters for people at the post office.
During this era, that was considered a very respectable job. When Bai Wei first landed it, her relatives were filled with envy.
Before she left the house, Shen Juan reminded her: “The matchmaker said the guy will be wearing black today. That restaurant doesn’t get too crowded, so you’ll spot him easily.”
Bai Wei nodded. “Okay, I’m heading out then.”
She quickly made her way to the restaurant where they had agreed to meet.
It was the largest restaurant near her house, though business was only so-so. Around lunchtime, there weren’t many customers.
When Bai Wei walked in, she saw only four occupied tables.
One was a young couple, another seemed to be a mother and daughter, and two were lone men.
She looked around. One of the men was wearing black. His figure was a bit thin, around 175 cm tall, slightly chubby, and his facial features could only be described as passable.
The other man wore a dark gray outfit and had a tall, upright posture. Just sitting there, he exuded a kind of soldierly bearing. His features were sharp and striking, and his tanned skin gave him a very healthy look.
Just judging by appearance, the man in the dark gray outfit seemed to match the matchmaker’s description more closely.
Bai Wei was puzzled. Maybe he couldn’t find anything black to wear before leaving, so he went with dark gray instead?
That seemed plausible. Plans never kept up with changes, after all.
She walked over to him and cautiously asked: “Hello, sir. Are you here for a blind date?”
The man looked up at her, and their eyes met for a moment. The intensity in his gaze made Bai Wei feel a little nervous.
This man’s eyes were sharp and full of authority—he clearly had a commanding presence. He definitely fit the matchmaker’s description of someone accomplished and successful.
So it was him.
The man nodded and stood up to pull out a chair for her. He introduced himself: “Hello, I’m Lu Siting.”
His voice was pleasant to the ear—low and steady, his pronunciation clear. It reminded Bai Wei of the male leads in multi-voiced audiobooks she used to listen to before transmigrating into the novel.
“Hi, I’m Bai Wei.” she replied with a smile as she sat down. His courteous gesture made her warm up to him right away. Also, now that he was standing, she confirmed that he was definitely over 185 cm tall.
He also looked quite young. A man like this—why didn’t he have a partner already? Was it really that unspeakable condition she had joked about earlier? What a waste if true!
Lu Siting called over a staff member so they could order food.
Bai Wei, being a sucker for good looks, was already feeling quite fond of the man sitting across from her. She ordered very modestly, trying not to scare him away with her usual big appetite.
After they finished ordering, they started getting to know each other while waiting for the food.
Bai Wei took the initiative and asked: “I heard from the matchmaker that Mr. Lu is young and accomplished. May I ask what line of work you’re in?”
“I’m in the military.” Lu Siting replied.
