Chapter 8: When Has a Son-in-Law Ever Cooked on His First Visit?
His daughter had liked good-looking people since she was a child—didn’t matter if they were men or women.
Back in elementary school, she had a crush on a handsome little boy and pestered him every day to eat with her, claiming that looking at his face boosted her appetite.
Shen Juan found Bai Yaotian to be more of a hindrance than a help in the kitchen, so she chased him out. Glancing at the living room, Shen Juan’s eyes turned, and she called out loudly: “Daughter, if you’re not busy, come help Mom in the kitchen!”
As her mother, Shen Juan knew her daughter’s ways best.
Bai Wei had the looks, the figure, and a job at the Post Office that many envied.
But unfortunately, she couldn’t cook.
And along with that, she wasn’t good at other household chores either.
If she went to Xiao Lu’s house in the future and the in-laws found out, what then?
Shen Juan, thinking of this, quickly called her daughter over, hoping to create a good first impression for the son-in-law.
As for cooking skills—well, they had just gotten married. She needed to hurry and teach her daughter how to cook at least some basic home dishes. Otherwise, if Xiao Lu found out later, he might return her like damaged goods.
Bai Wei, sitting in the living room, instinctively stood up when she heard her mother.
Lu Siting stood up with her and said: “You don’t need to go. I’ll do it. This is a good chance to show off a little.”
He still remembered how Bai Wei had mentioned at lunch that she wasn’t good in the kitchen.
Lu Siting walked into the kitchen, rolled up his sleeves, and said to his mother-in-law: “Auntie, go ahead and rest. Leave the cooking to me.”
Shen Juan had still been waiting for her daughter to come in, only to see Lu Siting walk over instead.
She was even more shocked when she heard what he said.
When had a son-in-law ever gone into the kitchen to cook on his first visit?
Yet Lu Siting was completely serious. He immediately got to work washing and chopping vegetables, acting like he was at home and not a guest.
Shen Juan stood stunned for a moment before realizing he wasn’t just being polite. His knife skills were excellent and clearly practiced.
So, this young man really could cook!
Men who could cook were rare these days!
No wonder her daughter had married him so quickly—must’ve been impressed by his culinary skills…
Shen Juan looked him over with approval, then quietly slipped out of the kitchen when she realized she’d only be in the way.
Looking back at her daughter, she found her sitting on the sofa like it had nothing to do with her, eating tangerines.
Shen Juan stood at the kitchen doorway for a while, then sat down beside Bai Wei and said: “Daughter, you’re smart. A good man like this—you definitely had to tie him down first with a marriage certificate! He can earn money, cook, and looks this handsome—what a rare catch!”
Since it was she who had picked Lu Siting, praising him was also praising her own judgment. Bai Wei immediately looked proud. “Of course!”
That afternoon, Shen Juan had been worried about the risks of a flash marriage. But after seeing Lu Siting, her opinion changed. If she knew how much more outstanding he really was, who knew what else she’d say?
Bai Wei peeled the rest of the tangerine and gave half to Shen Juan, whispering: “Mom, I think he’s really skilled in the kitchen. He’s such a perfect stay-at-home man. My taste is amazing, right?”
“You little trickster.”
Shen Juan smiled and tapped her daughter on the forehead.
The rice was already steaming. All Lu Siting needed to do was stir-fry a few dishes.
Shen Juan had gone into the bedroom to chat privately with Bai Yaotian.
With nothing else to do, Bai Wei strolled near the kitchen from time to time. When she saw the dishes Lu Siting had finished, she couldn’t help but exclaim—they looked and smelled amazing, perfectly appetizing.
“Wow, smells so good!”
Lu Siting’s lips curled into a faint smile but quickly straightened again. Normally, he wasn’t the type to smile easily, yet today he had smiled several times. His hands moved even faster as he cooked.
After a while, the food was ready. Bai Wei helped carry the dishes and then called out loudly: “Mom, Dad, come eat! Lu Siting’s cooking is amazing—we’re in for a real treat today!”
