As Wei Yuxian pondered, the activity on her phone ceased, momentarily quieting down. However, she knew her mother wouldn’t give up easily.
Sure enough, not even five seconds passed before her phone rang again, displaying “Mom” as the caller.
Wei Yuxian took a deep breath, feeling that if she didn’t answer, the phone would keep ringing incessantly. It was better to answer sooner rather than later, just to give her ears some peace.
Feeling wide awake now, she gathered her courage, paused the movie, allowing the room to quieten, and picked up her phone, pressing the answer button.
Before she could even utter a word, her mother’s voice came through the phone, filled with insults: “Where the hell have you been, you little brat? I’ve been calling you for so long, and you don’t answer! Have you grown wings and decided to rebel?!”
Wei Yuxian pretended not to hear those words and didn’t explain why it took her so long to answer the phone. There was no need; her mother wouldn’t listen anyway and would likely just scold her again. So, it was better not to explain.
Her voice cold, she asked, “What is it?”
