Mr. Fu also stepped forward, saying, “You can think of me as your father too.”
Wei Yuxian only then realized that there were more than just her and Fu Xuanyi in the room; Mr. and Mrs. Fu were there as well!
She turned her head in a daze, seeing the old lady and Mr. Fu, her mind unable to process the situation, repeatedly thinking about what the two elders had just said.
The old lady and Mr. Fu said she could think of them as her parents…
Those words were very heartwarming, but Wei Yuxian didn’t dare to accept them.
In her daze, she even forgot to leave Fu Xuanyi’s embrace, forcing a bitter smile: “Thank you for your kindness, Mr. and Mrs. Fu, but… it’s alright, Mrs. Fu, I’m fine, I just need some time…”
No one can immediately recover from the grief of losing a loved one; it’s a slow process that requires time to heal gradually and to come to terms with it bit by bit.
Wei Yuxian knew that the dead could not be resurrected, and the living could not follow them. Otherwise, who would remember the deceased?
Her parents had only her as their daughter, and she had to live well to visit their graves, to keep their memory alive, and to remember them.
Wei Yuxian had been sad for many years, and it wasn’t until a month later, when she finally emerged from her grief and fully accepted the reality, that she began to move forward.
It was mid-March, spring, and everything was coming back to life.
Wei Yuxian no longer immersed herself in sadness every day, and her tears no longer fell at random times; her emotions were much more stable.
Over the past month, her body had experienced some minor issues, but there were no significant problems, and the baby was fine.
Now, she had adjusted her state of mind and became a bit stronger.
On this day, Mrs. Fu remained by her side, worried about leaving her alone. Fu Xuanyi had gone to work, and Mrs. Fu, not wanting to leave Wei Yuxian alone at home, had been staying at the Fu mansion for days, not returning to the Fu family’s old house.
After Fu Xuanyi left for work, it was Mrs. Fu who accompanied Wei Yuxian, fearing that something might happen to her.
Wei Yuxian was grateful for the old lady’s company these days. Many times, when she couldn’t hold on, it was the old lady who was by her side, encouraging her, leading her out of the darkness and back into the light.
And then there was that man, Fu Xuanyi, who didn’t say much and wasn’t good at offering comforting words, but he was always there by her side, giving her the greatest sense of security!
Wei Yuxian understood all of this in her heart, and compared to the Wei family, the Fu family felt more like her home!
Here, she felt a warmth she had never experienced before, and the feeling of being cared for and loved.
After Wei Yuxian had breakfast and saw Fu Xuanyi off to work, watching his car leave, she returned to the living room.
The old lady was sitting on the sofa, a faint smile on her face, saying, “Yuxian, come over quickly. I’ve found a TV series for us. People online say this show is good; let’s watch it together.”
Wei Yuxian’s face also rarely showed a faint smile as she sat down next to the old lady and responded with a “hmm.”
She knew that the old lady was trying to divert her attention, to keep her from dwelling too much on her sadness.
The old lady was doing this for her own good, truly hoping that she could emerge from her grief as soon as possible.
And she didn’t want to disappoint the old lady’s kindness.
They watched TV for about an hour and a half, but Wei Yuxian was distracted. Suddenly, an idea came to her mind.
After hesitating for a moment, she said, “Mrs. Fu, I want to… visit my parents, is that okay?”
After being sad for a month, she hadn’t thought about this before, and she was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to hold it together when she saw her parents’ tombstones, so she hadn’t gone to visit.
Now, it was time for her to see her parents.
Her parents had been gone for many years, and it was indeed unfilial of her to only think of visiting them now.
Mrs. Fu was naturally happy to see her coming out of her grief and said, “Of course, you can. When do you want to go?”
Wei Yuxian thought for a moment and said, “The sooner the better.”
Mrs. Fu replied, “Then let’s go in two days. By then, Ah Xuan will be on his monthly leave, and he can accompany you.”
Wei Yuxian nodded and said, “Thank you, Mrs. Fu.”
It was good to go in two days; she could tidy herself up and adjust her state of mind, presenting a better demeanor when she met her parents.
Another two days passed, and it was the day to pay respects to her parents. Wei Yuxian woke up early in the morning; she hadn’t slept well the night before, and there were dark circles under her eyes.
The thought of seeing her parents soon made it impossible for her to sleep.
The person beside her had not yet awakened, holding her tightly, very warm.
The spring weather was still a bit chilly, but sleeping in Fu Xuanyi’s embrace was warm and comfortable.
During this time of sharing a bed with Fu Xuanyi, she gradually became accustomed to waking up in his arms and to the warmth of his embrace.
She wasn’t sure if this was a good or bad thing.
She didn’t want to wake the person beside her; it was only a little past five, and the man had worked overtime very late into the night, she didn’t even know when he had gone to sleep.
She thought about getting up quietly, but as soon as she moved the man’s large hand away and sat up, the person beside her woke up.
She paused, speaking softly and gently, “You can go back to sleep, it’s still early.”
Seeing that his little ancestor was getting up, Fu Xuanyi couldn’t sleep either. He sat up, pulled her into his arms, and left a good morning kiss on her forehead.
Wei Yuxian covered the place where she was kissed and pulled away from his embrace, not saying a word, and ran into the bathroom to wash up.
She still couldn’t bring herself to be at ease with being intimate with him.
She had gotten used to holding his hand and to his hugs, but not yet to his kisses.
The former two were easier to accept, but the latter was more difficult.
Fu Xuanyi followed her into the bathroom and washed up with her. After leaving the room, the servants hadn’t prepared breakfast yet; it was too early, not even the time for the servants to wake up.
Wei Yuxian walked to the living room’s floor-to-ceiling window and looked outside, lost in thought.
The sky outside hadn’t brightened yet; in spring, the dawn came later, but it wouldn’t be long now; the sun was about to rise.
Her solitary figure stood before the endless darkness.
Fu Xuanyi was moved and walked up behind her, reaching out to pull the petite figure into his embrace, shielding her from the darkness.
Wei Yuxian turned to look at him, slightly tilting her head. The man was also looking at her, his eyes filled with her presence. Strangely, a sense of reassurance welled up from within.
It was because of the man in front of her.
Her heartbeat quickened slightly, and something began to take root and sprout unnoticed.
Unaware of her own transformation, Wei Yuxian locked eyes with the man for a moment before looking away, back toward the darkness.
Dawn would eventually rise, just not yet.
They stood by the floor-to-ceiling window for a while. Fu Xuanyi, worried she might be tired, swept her off her feet and carried her to the sofa, leaning down to kiss her gently.
Wei Yuxian half-heartedly resisted, but unable to withstand the man’s tender advances, she succumbed to the moment, forgetting all her worries.
