Chapter 1
Huaxia Country, 1972.
H City, L County, Shanhe Brigade, Lei Family.
“Second Son’s family’s wife, how is she?”
“Is she still able to do it?” The midwife asked the woman, who seemed to be running out of strength.
“Second Son’s family, you must hold on!”
A woman, drenched in sweat, lay on the bed, her hands gripping the bedsheet tightly, her fingertips turning white.
Si Yueyue gritted her teeth, using all her strength: “Mmm… Ah… I… I can’t do it anymore, Mom… I’m sorry… Zhen… Lei Zhen, the baby… maybe… maybe… won’t come out…”
Before she could finish, she lost consciousness.
The midwife looked at the fainted woman, panic-stricken: “No, she fainted. If this continues, it’ll be two deaths.”
Zhao Cuilan rolled up her sleeves and helped the midwife urgently. She then looked toward the side where the eldest daughter-in-law stood and said: “Eldest daughter-in-law, quickly call your sister-in-law!”
Zhang Guihua shouted loudly into the ear of her sister-in-law: “Yueyue, wake up!”
“The baby hasn’t come out yet, you can’t sleep through this!”
“Yueyue…”
Seeing Si Yueyue, who was completely still, Zhang Guihua gritted her teeth and slapped her face hard, then pressed her thumb onto Yueyue’s philtrum.
————
2028, a certain neighborhood.
Splash… splash… the sound of water echoed.
Si Yueyue hummed a song as she soaked in the bathtub. A large bubble slipped off her shoulder, and she continued to gather the foam, evenly spreading it over her thighs…
Ding dong… ding dong…
Her phone notification rang continuously. Si Yueyue reached for the phone charging beside her, and with her slender, delicate fingers, she opened the three unread messages.
One voice message played: “Yueyue, the name of the female lead in this novel is actually the same as yours. I recommend you take a look. It says that the female lead gets struck by lightning while taking a bath and soul-transmigrates…
Well, I don’t know why the female lead is so reckless, though. It’s common knowledge that water conducts electricity, right? The author really has a wild imagination…”
Heh… it’s pretty stupid.
Si Yueyue casually tapped on the novel sent by her friend, scrolling through the brief synopsis and comments. Oh, so it was one of those transmigration stories where the protagonist immediately has a baby after crossing over.
Sigh—how tragic, ending up with one life but three deaths.
Wow—the culprit who caused those three deaths turns out to be stepping on the Lei Family people to live a happy and fulfilled life? How dog-blooded.
Si Yueyue tapped her chin thoughtfully: “Interesting, let me take a closer look.” She adjusted her legs in the water, ready to focus on the novel.
But unexpectedly, her foot slipped, and she slid straight into the bathtub. With a forceful motion, her phone’s charging port touched the water in the tub, and Si Yueyue immediately felt the world spin around her…
————
“Yueyue, if you don’t wake up soon, it’ll be two deaths instead of one. Can you bear that? The child hasn’t even seen this world…”
“Yueyue, please wake up… Think of Second Son, he’s waiting for you to bring the baby into the world so the family can be reunited.”
Si Yueyue felt someone calling her ear, and someone was slapping her face and pressing on her philtrum. She moved her hand…
“Mmm… It’s so noisy…”
Zhang Guihua, her face filled with excitement, looked at Si Yueyue: “Yueyue, Yueyue, you’re awake.”
Si Yueyue slowly regained consciousness, and the first thing she saw was a pale yellow, large face. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly turned her head to look around. The room was made of earthy yellow walls, and on the wall was a calendar, with a few large characters catching her eye.
1972? The 1970s?
This couldn’t be some dog-blood drama, could it?
Wait, wasn’t she just taking a bath in the bathroom? Playing with her phone? Did she really just slip into a transmigration story? And a soul transmigration at that?
Please don’t tell me she transmigrated into some ugly, hideous body.
Heh… water does conduct electricity. Turns out, she was that big idiot.
“You…” Si Yueyue was about to say something when a sharp pain suddenly shot through her stomach.
“Second daughter-in-law, quickly, the baby’s head is showing!”
“Mmm… Ah…” Si Yueyue tightly grasped Zhang Guihua’s hand, listening to the midwife’s instructions, gritting her teeth and using all her strength.
Then, she felt something slide out of her.
“Wow…”
“Delivered, delivered, it’s a big, healthy boy.”
Zhao Cuilan wiped away her tears as she took the grandson into her arms. Their Second Son finally had a child.
“Mmm… it hurts… it hurts so much.” Si Yueyue felt another wave of intense pain hit her stomach.
The midwife heard her cry and, sensing something was wrong, hurried over to check.
“There’s… there’s another one, Second Son’s family. Push, quickly, the baby’s head is already out.”
Zhao Cuilan was startled. This… this wasn’t mentioned by Dr. Wang, that it was twins. There was no time to think further, so she quickly handed the first baby to Zhang Guihua and rushed to help.
Si Yueyue had already exhausted all her strength, but she knew that if the second baby wasn’t born, it would be a death sentence for both of them. She could only grit her teeth and endure.
Who knew if she would still be able to transmigrate after dying? She valued her life too much.
Her phone: Heh…
“Mmm… mmm… ah…”
As the second baby slid out of her, Si Yueyue lost consciousness.
The midwife picked up the second boy, gave him a gentle pat on his little bottom, and the Little Milk Bun cried out loudly, announcing his arrival.
“Congratulations, congratulations, two healthy boys.” The midwife handed the second baby to Zhao Cuilan, then turned to clean up Si Yueyue.
After tidying Si Yueyue up, the midwife prepared to leave, but Zhao Cuilan, holding six eggs, pressed a ten-cent coin into her hand. “Aunt, thank you for your hard work.”
Originally, Zhao Cuilan had only prepared two eggs, but since it turned out to be twins, she added four more, making a total of six eggs.
The midwife stuffed the money into her pocket, glanced at the basket, and nodded with a smile.
“Not at all, I’m the one who benefited from your family. This is the first time I’ve delivered twins. Hahaha…”
After seeing the midwife out, Zhang Guihua and Zhao Cuilan finally brought the babies to show the three men outside.
“His father, look, our Second Son has a child now, and it’s twins! If only… if only Second Son could see the children with his own eyes…”
Father Lei wiped the corner of his eye. “It’s fine, it’s fine. We’ll raise the children for him.”
Zhao Cuilan choked back tears and said: “Yes…”
Father Lei, also known as Lei Dashu, was 49 years old. He married Zhao Cuilan, who was 47 years old, and together they had 3 sons and 1 daughter: their eldest son, Lei Jun, their second son, Lei Zhen, their third son, Lei Yu, and their daughter, Lei Zhenzhen.
The family of six lived in the Heishan Brigade. Lei Dashu was literate and firmly believed that education was the key to a better life. He was currently the brigade’s record keeper.
Their eldest son, Lei Jun, was 30 years old and worked in the brigade. He married Zhang Guihua, and the couple had two sons and a daughter. Their eldest son, Lei Qingshan, was 10 years old and in the fourth grade, their second daughter, Lei Qingyao, was 8 years old and in second grade, and their youngest son, Lei Qingyun, was 4 years old.
Their eldest daughter, Lei Zhenzhen, was 22 years old and worked at a textile factory. She was married to Lin Muchen’s family in the town and had two sons: the eldest, Lin Xuguang, was 7 years old and in first grade, and the youngest, Lin Xuhui, was 5 years old and hadn’t started school yet.
Their second son, Lei Zhen, had been in the military for four years. Now 21 years old, he was married to Si Yueyue and had two sons, just recently born.
Their youngest son, Lei Yu, was 14 years old and in the second year of junior high school.
Father Lei, holding the little bundle of joy, discussed the two newborns with his older sons. He then checked on the well-being of their mother.
“Is Second Daughter-in-law alright?”
“She’s fine, just exhausted.”
“That’s good, let her rest, then. Today really has been full of surprises, but thankfully, no harm done.”
“That’s right…”
Knowing that Second Daughter-in-law was fine, the old man, Lei Dashu, felt relieved. After all, how could he face Second Son if anything happened?
Lei Yu looked at his twin nephews and said to his father: “Dad, these two nephews look the same.”
“Mm, they look like your second brother.”
“They don’t look like Second Brother at all. He’s so dark, but these two little nephews look fair, so fair and cute. They’re not like Qingyun when he was born, all wrinkled up, looking like an old man.”
Lei Jun shot his younger brother a glare. He could talk about his own kids, but why drag his son into it?
“Newborn babies look like this. It’s normal for them to look different.” Lei Jun added.
“Really?” Lei Yu scratched his head, not remembering.
Zhao Cuilan said to her eldest daughter-in-law: “Eldest Daughter-in-law, later on, make some brown sugar egg water for Second Daughter-in-law. She needs to replenish her energy since she has to nurse both babies. We don’t want the milk to run out and leave the babies hungry.”
“Got it, Mom.”
After Zhao Cuilan finished speaking, she looked over at Father Lei and her eldest son, Lei Jun, who were both holding the twins. “Alright, you both should stop looking now. The babies are still small, they can’t be exposed to the wind.”
She then walked over with Zhang Guihua, taking the babies from their arms and carefully placing them next to their mother.
At this moment, Si Yueyue was dreaming. In her dream, she relived the life of the person whose body she had taken over when she transmigrated.
Si Yueyue opened her eyes and thought about it. The person she had become was so unfortunate. Her mother had died, and on top of that, she was forced by relatives to go to the countryside as a sent-down youth. As if that wasn’t enough, she was framed.
She had been saved by Lei Zhen, who was visiting the countryside at the time. Afterward, the two of them got married. If she hadn’t married Lei Zhen, she would have ended up marrying one of the local troublemakers in the brigade.
