A-Level Pursuit
A-Level Pursuit chapter 54

An hour later, Mo Xin appeared punctually at the door of Godwin’s office.

Godwin, taking advantage of the fact that the police station was his territory, put on airs. When he saw Mo Xin, instead of getting up, he crossed his legs and leaned back on his desk.

Glancing at his wristwatch, he remarked, “General Mo, you are quite punctual.”

Mo Xin stood at the door without entering. “Where’s Vincent?”

“I asked him to cool off in the back,” Godwin said, referring to the temporary holding area set up in the police station—a cage made of welded iron bars used to temporarily detain lawbreakers awaiting further processing.

Mo Xin’s face showed no emotion. “You have no authority to detain him.”

“He obstructed my official duties. If it weren’t for my respect for you, he would be in jail by now.” Godwin pointed his finger at Mo Xin, his tone dripping with contempt.

Mo Xin’s face turned cold as he went to the detention area.

Inside a ten-square-meter iron cage, seven or eight people were locked up. Vincent stood tall in his military uniform behind the iron bars, looking out of place in his surroundings. The others, seeing his high rank, sat neatly together on the same cold bench, curiously watching him in silence.

“General,” Vincent greeted Mo Xin with a crisp military salute as soon as he saw him.

Two patrol officers who had been chatting nearby lifted their heads at the commotion and looked at the young man approaching the iron cage.

“General Mo?”

Because Mo Xin was wearing plain black clothes, they couldn’t confirm his identity.

Mo Xin nodded indifferently, then asked Vincent behind the iron bars, “Are you injured?”

Vincent immediately replied, “No. Godwin deliberately provoked me, and even though I didn’t retaliate, he still brought me here.” He apologized, “I’m sorry to trouble you to come to such a dirty place, General.”

Mo Xin glanced at the officers beside him. Although he didn’t speak, his intention to open the door was already clear.

Under his powerful aura, the officers reluctantly prepared to release the prisoner. But just as one of them took out the key, Godwin stopped them.

“Don’t be in such a hurry,” Godwin leaned against the iron door with his arms crossed, looking at Mo Xin with a smile, “General Mo, cooperate with the investigation first. After proving your innocence, it’s not too late to take him away.”

“Innocence?” Mo Xin asked coldly. “What innocence?”

“During the press conference this morning, you left in a hurry. What were you doing?” Godwin’s tone became sharper, as if interrogating a criminal. “How did you manage to disappear from the car? I’m really curious.”

“My privacy is none of your business,” Mo Xin said coldly.

“Don’t give me that,” Godwin pressed on aggressively. “I’ll be blunt. I used to suspect, but now I’m certain that your disappearance and Liang Qiuchi’s are related. You went to meet him this morning, didn’t you?”

“Where’s the evidence?” Mo Xin countered. “Accusing a federal officer comes with consequences.”

“You can’t scare me,” Godwin pointed to his ear. “When Vincent reported to you this morning, he mentioned Liang Qiuchi. I heard it loud and clear.”

“Just mentioning his name, what does that prove?” Mo Xin remained indifferent. “I’m the deputy leader of the pursuit team responsible for capturing Liang Qiuchi. It’s normal for Vincent to mention his name in his report. Why are you so sure that I would help a wanted criminal?”

“You…”

“Just because we went to the same school and went on missions together? That reason is too far-fetched,” Mo Xin asked, “Do you want to bring a search warrant and search my house for other evidence?”

Godwin was speechless.

Mo Xin took a step forward, lowering his voice, “Now I’ll give you two options: either release him, or I’ll personally call Reinis and ask him to intervene.”

Godwin’s eyes flashed with panic.

After all, the search warrant was forged, and he planned to inform his uncle only after obtaining substantial evidence. Otherwise, according to the formal procedure, he was afraid he wouldn’t even have the chance to get close to Mo Xin’s villa.

“Fine, I’ll release him,” Godwin compromised slightly, but he was unwilling to be easily manipulated by Mo Xin like this, “But at least you have to tell me the reason you went to such lengths to avoid me this morning.”

Mo Xin, however, didn’t buy it and reiterated, “It’s personal privacy, and I don’t want to disclose it.”

“If that’s the case, then there’s nothing more to discuss. I can only ask Vincent to stay here a little longer.” Godwin gritted his teeth.

Mo Xin remained silent, took out his phone, and turned to leave the police station.

Godwin was afraid that Mo Xin would really call his uncle. He waved to the nearby officers and quickly caught up to Mo Xin, saying, “What kind of privacy is so important? If it really has nothing to do with Liang Qiuchi, I can keep it confidential.”

Mo Xin ignored him and walked out of the police station with large strides.

A low-profile black sedan was parked at the entrance, and Mo Qi, dressed in a black windbreaker, leaned against the front of the car. Seeing the two coming out, he politely greeted Godwin.

“Minister Mo, what brings you here?” Godwin was a little surprised.

But seeing Mo Xin get into the car without saying a word, he smiled and said to Mo Xin, “You two have a great relationship. Did you come here specifically to pick up General Mo? I was thinking of sending a car to take him home.”

“How could I trouble you with that, captain?” Mo Qi smiled and handed him a cigarette. “Mo Xin accompanied me to handle some matters this morning. Just as he received a call from you, I decided to bring him to see you.”

“Oh?” Godwin took the cigarette, half believing, half doubting, and glanced at the person in the car, “Minister Mo, are you saying that General Mo left the press conference this morning and went…”

“Shh,” Mo Qi teased mysteriously, winking at him, “It’s a private matter that shouldn’t be discussed in public. Captain, you shouldn’t spread it around.”

Just as Godwin was about to ask further, a woman suddenly rushed out from the corner of the street, ran over in a hurry, and threw herself into Mo Qi’s arms, coquettishly questioning, “Why haven’t you come to see me recently? Have you gotten tired of me?”

Mo Qi held her shoulders and pushed her away, “This is the police station. Let’s talk about it later.”

“But if you leave, how can you possibly come back?” The woman coquettishly leaned back into his arms, “It’s been so many days, have you visited me once? Instead, it was Mr. Vincent who came with you that day, and he was willing to take care of my business…”

“Don’t be unreasonable, go back first.” Without further ado, Mo Qi pushed the woman into the car, then turned to Godwin with an apologetic smile. “I have something else to do. We’ll talk another day.”

He quickly got into the car, honked twice, and the car sped away.

Left with a face full of exhaust fumes, Godwin was deep in thought. As Vincent, who had been released, passed by him, he deliberately bumped into his shoulder.

As Godwin staggered forward a step, he glared at Vincent angrily. Then, a flash of insight struck him, and he finally understood why this suddenly appearing woman seemed so familiar.

He had seen this woman and Mo Xin’s brother with Vincent in the same private room in the red-light district.

At that time, Vincent had always blocked him from entering the compartment. Indeed, there was something fishy!

A cunning smile crept onto Godwin’s face as his eyes rolled around twice, harboring a sense of inevitable victory.
