Chapter 14: Chicken Soup

Xiao Miaomiao finished her long-awaited chicken soup, hoping her stomach would be cooperative and she would conceive right away. She had done her research on getting pregnant, and these days were her ovulation period, which was why she chose to get married and have relations with Li Jingcheng on the same day.

She just hoped Li Jingcheng would be up to the task and she could get pregnant on the first try. That way, she could start lying flat once she confirmed her pregnancy next month.

The baby in her belly would be a golden nugget. Ten months of pregnancy, two months of carefulness before and after, and eight months of lying flat in between. Her position as the young mistress of the Li family would be firmly secured.

With her father-in-law managing the company now, and her own child taking over in twenty years, she would be a carefree, lazy fish for the rest of her life.

No wonder she was so lucky to discover Hong Wenbin’s infidelity. It seems there was even greater fortune waiting for her.

After breakfast, Xiao Miaomiao went back to her room to tidy up. She happened to run into the nurse giving Li Jingcheng an IV drip.

She thought about how Li Jingcheng had been lying down for half a year, looking like he was asleep, without any signs of weight loss. Could it be because of the ingredients in the IV drip?

Perhaps Xiao Miaomiao was staring too intently, because the nurse found it hard to ignore her. Seeing her so fixated on the IV drip, the nurse, who usually performed the procedure with ease, suddenly felt nervous.

Was he doing it correctly? He started to doubt himself and quickly checked his work.

Just as the nurse was about to kneel down, Xiao Miaomiao finally snapped out of her trance. “What kind of liquid are you giving him? How come he’s still in such good shape after half a year?” She couldn’t help but ask, “Does it taste good? Can I have some?”

The nurse’s mouth twitched, but he quickly covered it up and awkwardly looked at Xiao Miaomiao. “Madam Li, this is specially prepared for Mr. Li by Dr. Shen.”

In other words, don’t even think about competing with a vegetable for food.

Xiao Miaomiao laughed awkwardly, “I was just curious. Don’t mind me. You take good care of him. I’ll be going out now.”

The nurse watched the fleeing Madam Li, feeling both amused and bewildered.

When it was time to clean Li Jingcheng, he saw the fingernail marks on his waist and swallowed hard. So, Madam Li really did have relations with Mr. Li last night.

No wonder she said Mr. Li was in good shape. She had seen it for herself.

Yesterday, Xiao Miaomiao had indeed looked curiously. To distract herself, she had even touched all of Li Jingcheng’s chest muscles.

Just as Xiao Miaomiao was about to leave with Li’s mother, Jiang Chen called.

“Miaomiao, come back tomorrow and stay with your grandpa.” Jiang Chen said directly. “I’m not at ease with you living alone, and your grandpa and grandma are worried too.”

“I’ll handle the Hong Wenbin situation. You don’t have to worry about it. I’ll find you a good husband in two years.” Jiang Chen felt that Miaomiao was only twenty-three years old, and it wouldn’t be too late for her to get introduced to someone in two years, date for a few years, and get married at thirty.

Jiang Chen still wanted to keep Xiao Miaomiao for a few more years. The Jiang family would make it up to her.

Xiao Miaomiao’s heart skipped a beat when she heard what Jiang Chen said. She seemed to have forgotten to tell her cousin about her remarriage.

“Cousin, I might not be able to go back…”

Jiang Chen frowned, “What do you mean you can’t? You’re divorced now, you’re just living alone. You can’t cook, so you’re eating takeout every day? If I arrange for a maid to come over, you’ll refuse. Are you planning to starve yourself to death?”

“Don’t tell me you’re going back to the Xiao family. Do you think I’d believe that? And you dare go back to the Xiao family and see what happens.” Jiang Chen was truly disgusted with the Xiao family.

Xiao Miaomiao was helpless. Going back to the Xiao family was out of the question. Not only did she have shares in the Xiao company, but she also sold her shares to the Xiao family’s arch-rival. They would probably hate her to death.

“I’m not going back to the Xiao family. But I do have a new family, a very good one.” Xiao Miaomiao said earnestly.

Her husband’s grandparents and parents were kind to her. Her new husband was an only child, and he was a vegetable. All she had to do was give birth to an heir, and she would win.

No wonder most remarried women lived better than their first marriages. It was true. If it wasn’t good, why would they remarry?

Jiang Chen was drinking water when he heard her say she had a new family, and he choked.

“Xiao Miaomiao, I’m serious. Move back tomorrow.” Jiang Chen didn’t believe her. How could someone get divorced in the morning and remarried in the afternoon?

“We won’t blame you for being blind before. Just come back obediently.” Jiang Chen comforted her, thinking she was just afraid of being scolded.

Xiao Miaomiao was helpless. He wouldn’t believe her, but it was true.

“Cousin, I’m telling the truth. I really got married again. We got the marriage certificate yesterday afternoon.” Xiao Miaomiao said, her voice getting quieter. She didn’t expect to do something like this, but she did.

Jiang Chen sat up straight, “You’re telling the truth?”

Xiao Miaomiao could tell that Jiang Chen was unhappy, but it was the truth.

“Cousin, it’s true. I really got my marriage certificate again. I’m remarried.” Xiao Miaomiao said through gritted teeth.

Jiang Chen took a deep breath, telling himself to stay calm. Calm? “Get a divorce, get a divorce right now.”

“Even if you get married three times later, I can find you a better one.” Jiang Chen shouted.

“Ah.”

Xiao Miaomiao almost dropped her phone. It was her new phone, which she had just bought a few days ago. She hugged the phone and breathed a sigh of relief.

“Miaomiao, what’s wrong?” Jiang Chen heard her panicked voice and stood up.

“Nothing, your voice was just too loud, it scared me. I almost dropped my new phone.” Xiao Miaomiao said quickly.

Jiang Chen was speechless.

“You’re so easily startled by a phone? If it breaks, I’ll buy you a new one.” Jiang Chen said helplessly.

“Yes, I know you’re rich, but you can’t spend money like that.” Xiao Miaomiao shook her head and laughed.

“What’s going on? Who’s the jerk you remarried?” Jiang Chen was more concerned about this.

Xiao Miaomiao suddenly hesitated.

“Cousin, I told you, you have to promise not to scold me, or I won’t tell you.” Xiao Miaomiao threatened.

“Heh.”

Jiang Chen snorted, “You think I can’t find out if you don’t tell me?”

Xiao Miaomiao choked. He could find out, easily.

“Hurry up and tell me, who is that bastard?”
