Lu Chengxiao followed the navigation and drove to the nearest hospital, which took only about ten minutes.
Upon arriving at the hospital, they went through the process of registration and consultation, which took about half an hour. Wei Yuxian was then laid on a hospital bed, her face deathly pale and her lips colorless.
Due to her being pregnant, many medications could not be used, and since this was a small hospital, they were even more cautious about prescribing drugs.
Therefore, the doctor only suggested using physical methods to lower her temperature first, to see if it could be reduced. If it couldn’t be lowered, then they would consider using medication.
Fu Xuanyi chased everyone out and used the ice packs provided by the hospital, placing them on Wei Yuxian’s forehead, armpits, and groin area. He then used warm water to wipe her body.
Lu Chengxiao and Lin Chengyuan sat on chairs outside, also looking worried.
The latter stared at the ceiling out of boredom for a while before taking out his phone to call Mrs. Fu.
Such a big matter, Mrs. Fu should also know, and besides, with the old lady here, it would be more convenient to take care of Sister-in-law.
When Mrs. Fu arrived, it was already more than an hour later, and she was accompanied by Mr. Fu, Aunt Fu, and several servants.
When she entered with Aunt Fu and the servants, Fu Xuanyi had just finished wiping Wei Yuxian’s body. This was the second time he had used warm water to wipe her, and he had also changed the ice packs once.
His movements in taking care of Wei Yuxian were awkward, like a child learning to walk, stumbling and uncertain.
But everything has a learning process; people aren’t born knowing how to do everything.
Seeing his mother arrive, he looked up and called out, “Mom,” then lowered his head again to look at the person on the bed.
Mrs. Fu approached with concern and asked, “How is she? Why did she suddenly have a fever?”
Fu Xuanyi had just taken Wei Yuxian’s temperature, and it had gone down a bit; the physical cooling method was effective.
He said, “She’s a little better. This morning’s incident scared her.”
Hearing this, Mrs. Fu sighed and sat down beside the bed, reaching out to caress Wei Yuxian’s face.
Her face had an unnatural redness, a sickly red that showed through the paleness, and she looked so small lying on the bed, eliciting heartache from those who saw her.
“Poor child,” Mrs. Fu murmured.
The room fell into silence again, with no one speaking. Aunt Fu and several servants found a place to sit in the corner, ready to assist at any moment.
When it was time for the next body wipe, Aunt Fu wanted to help, but Fu Xuanyi refused and asked them all to leave the ward, even Mrs. Fu couldn’t stay.
Seeing his insistence on doing it himself, Mrs. Fu didn’t say anything and led Aunt Fu and the servants out of the room.
Outside, the men hurriedly asked, “How is she?”
Mrs. Fu said, “Everything’s fine, her temperature is coming down. It shouldn’t be long before it returns to normal.”
Hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. It was good that nothing serious had happened. If anything had happened to this precious person, those two people wouldn’t have enough lives to compensate!
Everyone sat back down on the chairs and waited quietly.
Inside the ward, Fu Xuanyi changed the ice packs for Wei Yuxian and wiped her body with warm water again. His movements were less awkward than the first time.
The sky slowly darkened, and the wind outside blew more fiercely, bringing spring rain.
A drizzle, moistening all things.
In the evening, the temperature dropped significantly. As the day passed, the fever finally subsided, and the ice packs were removed, but Wei Yuxian remained unconscious.
She was trapped in a nightmare, wanting to wake up but unable to do so.
In her dream, she was crying, and in reality, she was also restlessly shedding tears, feeling very cold.
Fu Xuanyi added another blanket to her, but it wasn’t enough. He could only take off his coat and lie on the bed to keep her warm.
In the south, there is no floor heating or central heating, so the indoor temperature is a bit cold.
However, it was now mid-March, and the cold was almost over.
The ward was dim, with no lights on. Mrs. Fu brought in food and turned on the warm yellow bedside lamp, whispering to Fu Xuanyi on the bed, “Ah Xuan, get up and eat something. You haven’t eaten all day.”
For as long as Wei Yuxian had been unconscious, Fu Xuanyi had been by her side, not eating or drinking.
Even the strongest person couldn’t endure this.
Fu Xuanyi glanced at his mother, hugged the person in his arms tighter, and simply said two words, “I’ll wait for her.”
I’ll wait for her to wake up.
He didn’t have much of an appetite now. Every time he saw the frail appearance of the person in his arms, he lost all desire to eat.
Once he made a decision, few could change his mind, not even Mrs. Fu, who could only sigh and sit down to wait with him.
Another hour passed, and the person in his arms, who had been motionless, finally woke up.
Wei Yuxian’s consciousness gradually returned, and she managed to escape from the terrifying dream. She then realized that her physical condition was very poor!
She felt weak all over, as if she had engaged in some intense exercise.
Her stomach was also uncomfortable, empty and in urgent need of food!
When she opened her eyes, the first person she saw was Fu Xuanyi. The man was wearing a stern expression, looking away, lost in thought.
“Ah Xuan…” she called out softly, her voice hoarse.
She didn’t know how long she had been unconscious, but judging by the sky outside, it must have been quite a while.
Fu Xuanyi must have been worried sick…
Fu Xuanyi lowered his head, caressing her face, and said, “You’re awake.”
Wei Yuxian’s body was still very weak. She nodded slowly and said, “I’m hungry.”
Without a word, Fu Xuanyi helped her sit up, letting her rest comfortably in his arms, and glanced at his mother.
Mrs. Fu immediately understood what he meant and picked up the thermos from the bedside table, pouring out a bowl of porridge. She opened the table attached to the hospital bed and placed it on top, making it easier for Fu Xuanyi to feed her.
Fu Xuanyi picked up the spoon to feed her.
Wei Yuxian felt very embarrassed. It was already awkward enough to be in someone’s arms, but to have them feed her as well…
She shook her head and said, “I can do it myself.”
Then, she raised her hand to take the spoon, but she overestimated herself. Her hand was so weak that even lifting it was a struggle, let alone holding a spoon.
Helpless, she could only accept Fu Xuanyi’s help.
This meal was extremely embarrassing.
However, her heart was incredibly warmed. When she was at her most vulnerable, someone was willing to be kind to her, willing to take care of her like this. Her heart truly felt warm.
And the one who brought her all this was Fu Xuanyi, a man who appeared cold on the surface but was incredibly thoughtful inside.
After Wei Yuxian had eaten her fill and regained some strength, she asked, “How long have I been asleep?”
Fu Xuanyi, who was eating the leftover porridge, said, “A day.”
Wei Yuxian had guessed as much, but she sighed and said, “I’m still too weak.”
After saying that, she wanted to get out of Fu Xuanyi’s embrace because she noticed that Mrs. Fu had been watching them the whole time. She was too thin-skinned to handle it.
