She thought she could be strong, at least not crying in front of everyone, but she overestimated herself. She wasn’t strong at all; she was extremely weak.
At the moment Fu Xuanyi embraced her, she wanted to hold onto him desperately, release her emotions, and cry her heart out!
But she couldn’t. She still had a shred of rationality left, knowing that the person in front of her was Fu Xuanyi, that cold and unapproachable man.
He was the young master of the Fu Family, he was a strict Buddhist, and he couldn’t be disrespected by anyone!
So she endured desperately, making her cries quieter and trying not to dirty his clothes.
But he held her too tightly; her face was completely buried in his clothes. When she cried, her tears soaked his clothes, which was unavoidable.
Since they were already dirty, she might as well cry her heart out. Being a little dirty or very dirty didn’t matter; she could always wash his clothes later.
“Umm… umm… umm…” Wei Yuxian cried unrestrainedly, being held by him like this, feeling extremely wronged and completely losing control of her emotions.
Her crying echoed in his ears, stabbing at his heart, which had never beaten for anyone else.
At this moment, he really wanted to embrace her tightly, to hurt for her fiercely! He couldn’t bear to see her cry; not even a bit!
In the cold winter, the desolate streets were sparsely populated with vehicles, and there were hardly any pedestrians. On the bare branches of trees, the few remaining leaves rustled and fell with each gust of wind.
In a corner of the street, a luxurious car was parked with its engine still running. Beside the car, a tall and handsome man held a petite and pitiful woman, gently patting her back to comfort her.
The scene appeared somewhat picturesque, and with a touch of sunset, it would become even more so.
However, the two protagonists in this scene were far from feeling any beauty.
After about ten minutes, Wei Yuxian cried for ten minutes, and Fu Xuanyi held her for the same duration. He was not eloquent with words; apart from patting her back to console her, he couldn’t say anything else. He didn’t know what to say.
For the first time, he felt affection for someone. In his twenty-nine years of life, it was the first time he experienced such intense emotional fluctuations for someone. He didn’t know how to comfort the crying little cat.
Finally, the pitiful little cat stopped crying, but she still looked so miserable, sniffing and trembling slightly.
He was just a little late, and she cried like this. Next time, he absolutely couldn’t afford to be late again.
Yes, Fu Xuanyi thought that the reason she was upset was because he arrived late. He never considered that she might be bullied at school or that there were people like that at her school.
When he investigated Wei Yuxian before, he only looked into her family background and didn’t investigate her school life. So he didn’t know what kind of days Wei Yuxian had at school.
If he had known, Ding Nana and her friends wouldn’t have had it so easy.
Wei Yuxian wouldn’t tell him what kind of days she had at school either.
She and Fu Xuanyi had no relationship whatsoever. If it weren’t for the baby in her belly, they would never have any contact again in their lives.
Finally, she stopped crying and struggled to leave Fu Xuanyi’s embrace. At this moment, she realized it wasn’t appropriate to be held by him, especially on the roadside where they could be seen by others, including her classmates.
Fu Xuanyi released her gently and looked down at her, saying, “I won’t be late next time. If you want to go to school, then go.”
He couldn’t back out now. Even though he knew going to school wasn’t good for her health, if it was what she wanted and what she enjoyed, then let her do it. They could just hire more people to take care of her.
At school, arrangements were made to ensure that the teachers would take good care of her.
At least, they wanted her to live a little happier, instead of wearing a sad face and falling ill every day.
Wei Yuxian swallowed hard, listening to his concession, feeling like he was different this time. It was the first time he had made a concession instead of giving her no choice at all.
But now, she didn’t need him to back down anymore. She had made up her mind, determined not to change it.
With red eyes and nose, hands tucked in her pockets for warmth, she said, “Let’s, let’s talk in the car first…”
Her speech was a bit disjointed, still affected by her earlier heavy crying.
Fu Xuanyi responded with a simple “Hmm”, opening the car door for her, protecting her head as she got in, then closing the door and returning to the driver’s seat.
As the car started, its engine hummed along the street.
Wei Yuxian composed herself, feeling the warmth returning to her body under the car’s heating.
She hugged her canvas bag, turning to look at the man beside her. It was this cold and aloof man who, at her most vulnerable moment, held her and gave her a hint of warmth.
He brought her back to life.
Although this man was also a source of pressure for her, his recent actions indeed brought a hint of warmth to her heart.
Taking a deep breath, she clasped her hands together and said, “I promise you, I’ll take a leave of absence.”
Her voice, softened by her recent tears, sounded like soft candy, each word sticking together.
Fu Xuanyi glanced at her, then returned his gaze to the road ahead. “No need to force yourself. If you like it, then go,” he said.
He thought she was being forced into taking a leave of absence.
Wei Yuxian shook her head firmly and said, “No, I want to take a leave of absence.”
Fu Xuanyi was puzzled by her change of mind and asked, “Why the change of heart?”
He remembered her resolute attitude last night, even shedding tears because she wanted to continue her studies. Even this morning, she still wanted to go to school.
Using the same excuse as before, Wei Yuxian replied, “The academic pressure is too much for me. I’m experiencing severe morning sickness at school, unable to keep up. It’s better for me to take a leave of absence.”
Fu Xuanyi found this reason quite reasonable. He also thought that studying was extremely difficult for her, especially with such complex and difficult-to-understand knowledge, which required even more mental effort.
Without much thought, he even felt somewhat relieved and said, “It’s good that you’ve come to terms with it. Tomorrow, I’ll arrange for you to take a leave of absence and move your luggage back.”
“Okay.” Wei Yuxian breathed a sigh of relief when he agreed.
With this decision made, there was even less need to mention Ding Nana’s matter to him. After all, she wouldn’t have any further dealings with Ding Nana in the future.
How could she dare to trouble Young Master Xuanyi with such trivial matters?
With this issue resolved, Wei Yuxian’s mood improved slightly. Just the thought of not having to see Ding Nana or hear her malicious words in the future made her feel much better.
When she returned to school next year, she would focus on her studies and start a new chapter in her life. She believed that there weren’t many people like Ding Nana in the world, and that there were more good people than bad.
