Fu Xuanyi was flustered by her sudden tears, gently wiping them away from her cheeks with his large hand, thinking she had been frightened.
Those actions were indeed quite cruel, and his beloved might not be able to accept them.
He said, “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have scared you.”
Hearing his words, Wei Yuxian realized he had misunderstood. She sniffled and said, “No, I… I wasn’t scared. I was just… just moved… You’ve been so good to me…”
As she spoke, she grew shy, lowering her head, not daring to look at Fu Xuanyi.
“So that’s it, as long as you weren’t scared.” Fu Xuanyi felt even more tender towards the adorable girl in his arms, thinking to himself that if his beloved was already this moved, what would happen if he treated her even better? Would she cry until she passed out?
“No, that wouldn’t do,” he thought.
He lifted her chin, making her look into his eyes, and said, “Accept it with peace of mind.”
These were things she deserved, and she didn’t need to carry any psychological burden about it.
Wei Yuxian stopped crying and didn’t want to dwell on this topic any longer. She said, “Let them go.”
She had made up her mind and made her choice.
After seeing the fate of the Wei family, Wei Yuxian made a definitive choice to let them go.
It wasn’t because she was kind-hearted or soft; she knew that once they were released, they would face even greater suffering. Outside, their lives would be completely upended and reshuffled. The hardships they would endure out there would be a thousand, even ten thousand times worse than what they experienced here.
Facing enemies, being soft-hearted is wrong; being ruthless is the right path!
Fu Xuanyi, ever accommodating to her wishes, responded with a tender “Hmm,” and said, “As you wish.” His tone overflowed with affection.
Wei Yuxian felt as if her heart had been struck hard, swelling with an indescribable sensation.
What a strange and wonderful feeling—one she had never experienced before.
Sitting nearby, Lu Chengxiao watched their playful interaction, his mouth curving into a grin so wide it seemed to touch the sky.
Oh my, they had never seen this side of Master Xuanyi before. Just look at him—speaking so tenderly, as if afraid that a harsher word might scare his wife!
Only the madam could receive such treatment from Master Xuanyi. Anyone else hoping for the same consideration?
Dream on!
So sweet, so sweet—today’s air is truly sweet!
The voices of the two weren’t loud but not too soft either, and with the spaciousness of the room, Mrs. Wei and the three of them, Ding Nana included, heard their conversation.
Upon hearing Wei Yuxian’s decision to let them go, the initial reaction of the four was one of joy!
As expected! Wei Yuxian was a kind-hearted woman! She couldn’t bring herself to be ruthless!
Fantastic! They could finally leave this dreadful place! No more enduring these inhumane torments!
The joy on the faces of the four was palpable, and instantly, they felt some of the pain on their bodies alleviated!
Ding Nana exclaimed excitedly, “Thank you, Master Xuan! Thank you, Master Xuan! Your kindness is truly immense!”
The other three also chimed in with words of gratitude.
Little did they know, outside awaited a storm of unprecedented proportions!
Their homes shattered, their loved ones lost. Once they stepped out, they would no longer be the pampered princesses of their households. They would have to face not only the cruelty of society but also the probing questions of their families.
As for Mrs. Wei, she would return to face an empty house and the burden of exorbitant medical bills. She would be under constant scrutiny for the rest of her life.
Fu Xuanyi glanced at Lu Chengxiao, who had been watching the spectacle unfold. “Do as Madam says,” he instructed.
Lu Chengxiao grinned broadly, flashing his pearly whites. “Yes, Master! Yes, Madam! Well, isn’t this delightful!”
He enthusiastically directed his men to drag the individuals outside, where they would receive another round of brutal beatings until they cried out for mercy. Only then were they pulled into the car and sent away.
Keeping them here would only waste their resources.
A few minutes later, Lu Chengxiao walked in once more. “Master, Madam, everything’s taken care of. Madam, would you like to take a tour of the base? It’s quite spacious and interesting here!”
He sincerely invited Wei Yuxian to explore the base he managed.
Wei Yuxian thought about what she had seen when she entered earlier, and she found herself intrigued by the equipment used by those burly men for training. Plus, she rarely had the opportunity to go out, making her even more interested.
She turned to Fu Xuanyi and asked him, “May I?”
As the ultimate decision-maker, Fu Xuanyi’s agreement was essential for Wei Yuxian’s participation in the tour. Naturally, he consented, nodding and rising to guide her outside.
The joy in Wei Yuxian’s eyes was evident, sparkling like a sky full of stars!
Lu Chengxiao eagerly took on the role of tour guide, ushering them onto a sightseeing vehicle. He personally took the wheel, leading them around the base.
As they toured, Lu Chengxiao explained the functions of different areas and what they were typically used for.
After about an hour of exploration, they finally finished their tour, and it was time to head back for lunch. Fu Xuanyi was very attentive to Wei Yuxian’s health, ensuring she ate on time and received proper nutrition to keep her healthy and well-fed.
Upon their return home, it was just in time for lunch. Wei Yuxian had a surprisingly good appetite today and finished her nutritious meal with gusto.
After lunch, she settled on the sofa and turned on the TV. The protagonist of the show she was watching seemed to have a similar background to hers—unloved by her parents and struggling on her own.
Wei Yuxian watched with a deep sense of empathy.
What she saw today was beyond her imagination! The protagonist of the show wasn’t even the biological child of her parents! That explained why her parents treated her poorly all along.
Suddenly, a thought began to form in Wei Yuxian’s mind, like a thorn embedding itself deeply.
After watching for over an hour, feeling tired, she yawned and headed upstairs to sleep, her mind still occupied with thoughts.
She pondered her past life at home.
She held the lowest position in the family hierarchy. Her parents could order her around, and her siblings could bully her. She did all the household chores, and as she grew older, she even took on part-time jobs during school breaks to support the family.
Yet, despite all her efforts, what she received in return was being called a “money-losing” a burdensome expense by her family!
Entering her room, Wei Yuxian lay on the bed, lost in thought. She reminisced about scenes from a TV drama while reflecting on her family’s treatment of her.
She felt like an outsider among them. They were the true family.
So, was there a possibility? Could she be like the protagonist in the drama, not biologically related to her parents?
For nineteen years, Wei Yuxian had never doubted her origins. But now, at this moment, doubt crept in.
Yet, she dismissed the idea in her mind. It couldn’t be true. Reality was reality, and dramas were just dramas. How could they be exactly alike?
Her parents probably just favored sons over daughters.
