Though this thought lingered in Wei Yuxian’s mind, it was like a thorn pricking at her heart.
For several days, Wei Yuxian was absent-minded, constantly pondering over this matter. Even while watching TV dramas, she often found herself lost in thought.
Upon closer reflection, she realized she didn’t resemble her parents much. Not only that, but she also didn’t resemble her brothers.
People often say that “like father, like son” and “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” Even if she didn’t resemble her parents, she should at least resemble her relatives, right?
But no! Wei Yuxian recalled all her relatives, and not a single one looked like her.
Afraid that she didn’t know her own appearance well enough, Wei Yuxian specifically stood in front of the mirror, scrutinizing herself.
After pondering for several days, she felt that the possibility of not being her parents’ biological child was quite high!
Wei Yuxian’s absent-mindedness over the past few days didn’t escape Fu Xuanyi’s notice. He wasn’t sure what was on her mind, but even during moments like applying pregnancy oil, she seemed less shy.
However, seeing her not in a particularly bad mood, he assumed it wasn’t something terrible bothering her.
Learning from past experiences, Fu Xuanyi now instructed Guan Jinyou to investigate whenever he noticed Wei Yuxian’s mood off. This time, the investigation turned up nothing.
He wanted to ask her what she had been thinking about lately, but he held back, hoping to see if she would come to him for help on her own.
If she continued to keep things to herself, he would inquire personally.
Several days passed, and Wei Yuxian still hadn’t confided in him. He decided to give her two more days. If she still didn’t seek his help, he would approach her himself.
Wei Yuxian thought about this matter more and more, feeling increasingly convinced of its possibility. However, she had no way to verify it herself. With her movements restricted even within the Fu Mansion, let alone elsewhere, she couldn’t do much.
With no one else but Fu Xuanyi who could help her, Wei Yuxian felt embarrassed at the thought of approaching him.
Another day passed, and Wei Yuxian couldn’t hold it in any longer. She needed to clarify this matter and find out if her parents were truly her biological parents.
Without resolving this issue, she couldn’t sleep or eat properly.
So, tonight, after Fu Xuanyi finished work and they sat down for dinner, she kept searching for the right moment to speak up. But every time she looked at him, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
She still hadn’t learned to rely on anyone, even though Fu Xuanyi had assured her that he would help her with anything she needed.
Yet, despite her hesitation, Wei Yuxian knew she couldn’t delay any longer. As she continued to stall, the evening passed, and it was time for her to apply her pregnancy oil after her shower, with Fu Xuanyi still present in the room.
She watched him calmly, her face betraying her inner conflict. Finally, she lay down on the bed and observed as he got up to fetch water from the bathroom.
When he returned and sat by the bed, lifting her shirt to begin the routine, she mustered the courage to halt his actions by firmly grasping his hand.
Looking up at her, Fu Xuanyi inquired, “What’s wrong?”
If she intended to apply the oil herself, he wouldn’t agree to it.
“It’s been quite a while, my dear. You should be used to it by now,” Fu Xuanyi remarked, his tone gentle.
Wei Yuxian, with her doe-like eyes, hesitated for a moment before finally speaking up, “Ah Xuan, I… I want to ask you for a favor, Can you help me with something.”
She paused again as she spoke, but she managed to get the words out.
Seeing her finally open up and seek his help, Fu Xuanyi felt pleased and praised her progress. “Sure, what is it?” he asked.
He was curious to know what had been troubling her for so many days.
Whatever it was, he would assist her in resolving it smoothly, ensuring the best possible outcome for her.
After Wei Yuxian started talking, the rest of her words flowed more smoothly. “I’ve been thinking lately, I’m very likely… not my parents’ biological child. So, I want you to help me with a paternity test,” she explained.
So, that’s what this is about. It seemed like such a simple matter, yet she had hesitated for so long before finally asking him.
But why would she have such doubts?
Fu Xuanyi thought back to Mrs. Wei’s appearance and realized they indeed didn’t resemble each other at all.
His sweetheart was so beautiful, like a celestial being, while that woman…
There was no comparison. His sweetheart was the most beautiful.
“Okay, I promise,” he replied to Wei Yuxian without any hesitation.
This time, he didn’t dare to tease this emotionally sensitive little one again, afraid that she might start crying like last time.
When she cried, he was at a loss and didn’t know how to comfort her.
Wei Yuxian was delighted by his quick agreement, and a smile immediately appeared on her face. It was the first smile in many days.
“Thank you, Ah Xuan! You’re truly a great person,” she said happily, handing him a “good person” card.
Fu Xuanyi didn’t want that “good person” card because he knew he wasn’t a good person.
“I’ll help you, but there’s a condition,” he stated.
Just like last time when she wanted to go out and see the snow, this time she also set a condition.
Last time it was holding hands, but this time it wasn’t going to be that simple.
Wei Yuxian clearly recalled the condition from that day and innocently thought that Fu Xuanyi’s condition today was the same. She happily agreed, saying, “Sure!”
“It’s just holding hands, what’s the big deal? Anyway, they’ve held hands plenty of times,” she thought.
Holding hands wasn’t a big loss for her, and she could find out if she was really her parents’ biological child. It was practically a win-win for her!
A faint smile curved Fu Xuanyi’s lips. “I haven’t even said it yet, and you’ve agreed,” he remarked.
Wei Yuxian was still in a cheerful mood. “It’s just holding hands, here you go,” she said, extending her small hand very proactively and placing it in the man’s large hand, very generously!
Fu Xuanyi naturally wouldn’t let this opportunity slip by. He firmly grasped her hand and asked, “Who said anything about holding hands?”
Wei Yuxian’s smile froze on her face immediately, and she asked in confusion, “Then what is it? Isn’t it holding hands? I’ve given you my hand!”
Fu Xuanyi couldn’t help but chuckle at her innocence.
Back then, he chose to hold hands to avoid startling her, and he didn’t reveal his true intentions. But now, how could something as simple as holding hands solve the problem?
Wei Yuxian felt like she had been fooled. This man was hiding too much!
“Yuxian, times have changed,” he said gently.
Wei Yuxian’s face was filled with fear as she timidly asked, “Then… what is the condition?”
Could it be what she thought it was?
But she still had her baby! Why did Fu Xuanyi always think about that?
As it turned out, Wei Yuxian was overthinking things. It was she who had become impure in her thoughts.
Seeing her so frightened, Fu Xuanyi knew she had misunderstood and chuckled softly.
