Investigating this matter indeed posed challenges, potentially taking several years to unravel.
But who is Fu Xuanyi? And who are his subordinates?
If even this simple matter couldn’t be handled properly, Lu Chengxiao saw no reason to remain by Fu Xuanyi’s side.
He conceived a brilliant plan, the quickest way to uncover the truth of this matter.
That is, to locate Wei Yuxian’s parents and directly inquire about the sequence of events!
Lu Chengxiao believed they knew the whole story, and with a little pressure, they would surely spill the beans.
If, by chance, they truly were unaware, then he’d have to devise another plan.
In the worst-case scenario, when Guan Jinyou was back on duty, he would seek him out to tackle this matter together.
Over by the office, Guan Jinyou, currently on holiday, had no idea what was going on in the mind of a certain young master. If he did, he’d probably meet a fatal end with a smile, saying, “That Sixth Young Master.”
Here, nearing the end of the year, Wei Yuxian found herself bored at the Fu Mansion. Without Fu Xuanyi’s orders, she couldn’t venture out, especially with the recent snowfall making the weather bitterly cold.
Ever since her last encounter with real snow, she found it immensely exhilarating. Every time it snowed, she longed to go out and play!
But she couldn’t. Fu Xuanyi would never agree to her going out under any circumstances.
Today, it was snowing again, coinciding with Fu Xuanyi’s last day of work this year. After today, he would officially start his holiday.
She gazed out of the floor-to-ceiling window in her room, watching the pure white snow outside. The world beyond was blanketed in white, appearing almost dreamlike.
She often scrolled through videos on her phone of people making snowmen or shoveling snow off rooftops, itching to join in the fun.
Today, seeing the snow once more, she still had a strong desire to go out and play in it.
She picked up her phone and sent a message to Fu Xuanyi, roughly expressing her desire to go out and play in the snow, reassuring him that she would dress warmly.
Not long after, Fu Xuanyi replied to her message. Without even checking, Wei Yuxian could probably guess what his response would be.
After a glance, she confirmed her suspicions. He indeed declined her request, instructing her to stay home obediently, promising to bring her a little gift tonight.
Wei Yuxian pouted, not at all interested in a small gift. She wanted to go out and play in the snow.
With a sigh, she set her phone down and turned her attention to the books on the table.
As she was engrossed in reading, it was soon time for lunch. Aunt Fu knocked on her door, signaling for her to come downstairs for lunch.
Leading the way, Wei Yuxian followed Aunt Fu downstairs and had just sat down when two unexpected guests arrived at the residence: Fu Xuanyi’s parents.
When Wei Yuxian saw the guests, she felt a bit flustered. She was alone at home, with Fu Xuanyi absent!
The situation was akin to visiting a good friend’s house only to find that they weren’t home, leaving only their parents, which felt awkward.
Wei Yuxian stood up, feeling somewhat uneasy, and addressed them, “Mr. Fu, Mrs. Fu.”
Mr. Fu grunted in response, equally reserved and taciturn as Fu Xuanyi, as he took his seat.
Mrs. Fu , on the other hand, was much more welcoming. She smiled warmly at Wei Yuxian and affectionately called out, “Yuxian.”
Wei Yuxian murmured an acknowledgment, still feeling awkward, wondering why these two had come.
Since arriving at the Fu Mansion, she hadn’t seen Fu Xuanyi’s parents often. Every time they met, Fu Xuanyi was by her side. But this time, Fu Xuanyi was absent!
After inviting Mrs. Fu to take a seat, Wei Yuxian nervously tapped her fingers under the table and asked, “Have you both eaten?”
Mrs. Fu replied, “Not yet. We came specifically to have a meal with you. We just returned from traveling abroad a few days ago, and as soon as we arrived, we hurried over.”
Although they had heard about what had happened to Wei Yuxian, they were overseas at the time. Mr. Fu had some matters to attend to abroad, and they took the opportunity to enjoy a vacation, which delayed their return.
Now that they were back, their first priority was to come see her!
Mrs. Fu still cared a lot about Wei Yuxian, treating her like a daughter-in-law. Besides Wei Yuxian, she recognized no one else as the mistress of the Fu household!
Upon hearing about Wei Yuxian’s experiences, Mrs. Fu’s immediate reaction was one of deep concern and sympathy. She was genuinely heartbroken for her!
This child is truly resilient. She’s been carrying such a heavy burden alone for so long. If it weren’t for Aunt Fu noticing that something was amiss, who knows how much longer she would have endured.
But I can understand why Yuxian acted this way. She feels so insecure. In a place like the capital where she’s unfamiliar with life, she doesn’t have any relatives or someone she can rely on.
Plus, growing up in such an environment from a young age, it’s natural for her to lack a sense of security.
She’s timid, and Ah Xuan’s demeanor is so cold. It’s a wonder she hasn’t been scared away.
But lately, I’ve heard from Aunt Fu that Yuxian and Ah Xuan’s relationship seems to be improving. They even started sleeping together. Mrs. Fu is genuinely thrilled about this!
This indicates that there’s potential between Yuxian and Ah Xuan!
It’s such a waste if someone as good as Yuxian doesn’t become a part of their Fu family.
Aunt Fu brought the servants up for lunch and then excused herself, leaving them to chat undisturbed.
Wei Yuxian ate her lunch quietly, unsure of what to say. She felt the atmosphere was incredibly tense.
At that moment, she wished Fu Xuanyi were there. Then she wouldn’t feel so awkward.
Mrs. Fu was a kind person; she had always known that. But they weren’t very familiar with each other, so the interaction felt awkward.
Mrs. Fu seemed a bit more relaxed than she did. She asked, “How have you been lately? Is your morning sickness still severe?”
Wei Yuxian lifted her head, briefly meeting Mrs. Fu’s gaze before hastily looking away. She replied, “I’ve been doing well lately. The morning sickness has subsided, and I’ve been eating well. Sleeping… quite well too.”
She paused for a moment before continuing.
Her recent sleep situation was a mixed bag. On one hand, she was sleeping longer than before, no longer tossing and turning before falling asleep.
But because she had been preoccupied with something lately, her sleep was not entirely peaceful. Even in her dreams, she was searching for her biological parents.
It had been several days now, and she didn’t know if Fu Xuanyi had managed to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Although she understood that it wasn’t easy to investigate, she still wanted to know the results sooner rather than later, so she could finally put her mind at ease.
Mrs. Fu said, “That’s good. If you feel unwell, don’t hesitate to tell the servants. Don’t worry about troubling them. You can also talk to Ah Xuan about it.”
Wei Yuxian nodded “yes,” indicating that she understood.
Mrs. Fu continued, “I heard that you had a little trouble recently. Someone bullied you, didn’t they?”
Wei Yuxian wasn’t surprised that Mrs. Fu knew about this. She nodded again and replied, “Ah Xuan helped me. Those people have faced consequences.”
Mrs. Fu responded, “They deserved it. In the future, if anything happens, talk to Ah Xuan about it. Don’t keep it to yourself. If you speak up, the Fu family will support you.”
