Upon hearing these words, Wei Yuxian felt a warm sensation in her heart, knowing that Mrs. Fu was genuinely concerned about her.
In truth, Mrs. Fu had always cared for her, from their first meeting until now.
Suddenly, she felt envious. Fu Xuanyi had such a wonderful mother, and even his father, despite being reserved and seemingly difficult to get along with, was a good person.
They were excellent parents, unlike her own parents—or rather, she should say, her adoptive parents. They were kind to their own son but when it came to her…
But she could understand why they treated her the way they did. After all, she wasn’t their biological child.
But even if she wasn’t biologically related to them, after raising her for so many years, shouldn’t there be some affection?
Not wanting to dwell on these thoughts, Wei Yuxian felt her mood sinking whenever they crossed her mind.
To prevent herself from sinking into sadness, she made a conscious effort to avoid thinking about those who had hurt her.
After lunch, Mrs. Fu continued chatting with Wei Yuxian, while Mr. Fu sat quietly beside her, listening to their conversation without uttering a word, like a backdrop.
They talked for about half an hour, mainly discussing recent events in Wei Yuxian’s life. Wei Yuxian began to feel drowsy.
Feeling sleepy after a full meal was common, especially during pregnancy, when drowsiness often struck without warning.
She couldn’t help but yawn several times, tears welling up in her eyes from the physiological response.
Seeing her nodding off, Mrs. Fu didn’t push her to continue chatting. Instead, she suggested that Wei Yuxian go rest in her room.
Wei Yuxian felt embarrassed about leaving the two elders downstairs and going to sleep alone, so she tried to rally her spirits.
“It’s alright, Mrs. Fu. I’ll feel better soon. It’s just post-lunch drowsiness. I’ll be fine.”
Mrs. Fu took Wei Yuxian’s hand and helped her up, guiding her upstairs. She said, “No, when you’re sleepy, you need to sleep. Your health is the most important thing now. You shouldn’t force yourself; it could affect the baby’s health.”
Wei Yuxian could only follow Mrs. Fu obediently, eliciting sympathy from her.
The more Mrs. Fu looked at her, the more she liked her. She wished she could give Wei Yuxian everything good in the world!
When they reached the doorway of the room, Wei Yuxian said, “It’s okay, Mrs. Fu. I can go in by myself. You should rest too.”
The Fu residence was spacious, and Aunt Fu had already arranged accommodations for Mrs. Fu and Mr. Fu, so Wei Yuxian didn’t need to worry about them.
However, Mrs. Fu didn’t stop. She opened the door and continued inside, gently urging Wei Yuxian to sit on the bed. She whispered, “Lie down.”
Wei Yuxian felt extremely embarrassed. She was about to get up to stop her, saying, “Mrs. Fu, I can do it myself!”
But before she could, Mrs. Fu lifted the blanket and covered Wei Yuxian herself. Wei Yuxian was overwhelmed with anxiety! She tried to sit up to stop her, saying, “Mrs. Fu, I can do it myself!”
Wei Yuxian couldn’t fathom why Mrs. Fu, with her distinguished status, would do such a thing!
To cover her with a blanket? Who did she think she was? How could Wei Yuxian possibly be worthy of such treatment from Mrs. Fu?
No, no, no! Regardless of Mrs. Fu’s status or age, Wei Yuxian couldn’t allow this to happen!
Mrs. Fu said, “Yuxian, don’t move. Lie down obediently.” Her tone brooked no refusal.
Somehow, Wei Yuxian sensed a hint of Fu Xuanyi’s presence in Mrs. Fu’s words!
The way Mrs. Fu spoke just now was as domineering as Fu Xuanyi!
Like mother, like son. So, Fu Xuanyi’s personality traits must have reasons behind them.
Despite Mrs. Fu’s seemingly kind demeanor, she was actually quite domineering!
Wei Yuxian obediently stayed still, thinking to herself: They’re all so domineering, this family.
Once Wei Yuxian complied, Mrs. Fu seemed satisfied. She covered her with the blanket, sat by the bedside, leaving only Wei Yuxian’s adorable little head peeking out from under the covers, everything else tucked in snugly.
Mrs. Fu gently stroked Wei Yuxian’s soft cheek and said, “Alright, close your eyes and go to sleep.”
Her tone was so different from before, sounding just like coaxing a child to sleep. The contrast was striking!
If someone didn’t know better, they might think she was actually coaxing a child to sleep!
But in Mrs. Fu’s eyes, Wei Yuxian was still a child.
Mrs. Fu was nearing seventy, while Wei Yuxian hadn’t even reached twenty yet. There was a fifty-year age gap between them.
In Mrs. Fu’s eyes, what else could Wei Yuxian be if not a child?
Wei Yuxian closed her eyes, but she was incredibly nervous. The thought of Mrs. Fu watching her sleep made it impossible for her to fall asleep.
In all her years, she had never experienced someone watching her sleep. How could she possibly sleep under such circumstances?
Fortunately, Mrs. Fu didn’t stay too long, only about two minutes. She gently stroked Wei Yuxian’s forehead and then quietly left.
Wei Yuxian breathed a sigh of relief, finally able to sleep peacefully.
She slept soundly, though she wasn’t sure for how long. When she woke up, her mind felt a bit groggy. She remembered that the two elders should still be in the mansion, so she quickly got up. Glancing at the time, she was surprised to see that it was already past four in the afternoon!
She had slept for over three hours!
Hurriedly, she got up to freshen up. When she went downstairs, she saw that the two elders were still there. She approached them and said, “Mr. and Mrs. Fu.”
Mrs. Fu was watching a TV drama. Upon seeing Wei Yuxian getting up, she asked, “How was your sleep?”
Wei Yuxian replied, “It was fine…” though she had accidentally slept for quite a long time.
Mrs. Fu got up, turned off the TV drama, and asked, “Would you like to go out and see the snow? It’s stopped snowing outside.”
Wei Yuxian’s eyes lit up! She looked at Mrs. Fu, somewhat incredulous, and asked cautiously, “Can I go out?”
She was afraid that Mrs. Fu was joking with her!
After all, she had been longing to go out and see the snow for days!
Today, Mrs. Fu was actually asking her if she wanted to go out and see the snow!
Her answer, of course, was yes!
Mrs. Fu smiled and said, “Of course you can. It’s good to go out occasionally. Don’t stay cooped up indoors all day; it’s not good for you.”
Wei Yuxian’s face immediately lit up with a big smile. “I’ll go upstairs and put on warm clothes right away!” she exclaimed.
She ran excitedly, startling Mrs. Fu and the maids. Mrs. Fu quickly said, “Yuxian, slow down, don’t rush.”
Wei Yuxian then remembered that she was carrying twins.
Speaking of which, her belly had grown significantly larger recently. It felt heavier, and she wondered if it was because she was carrying twins. It seemed bigger than other pregnant women at the same stage.
She stopped running and glanced down at her protruding belly. After reassuring herself that everything felt normal, she let out a sigh of relief and began walking instead.
She was ecstatic. After quickly changing clothes in the dressing room, she came downstairs and looked at Mrs. Fu with sparkling eyes.
Mrs. Fu, like Fu Xuanyi, inspected her outfit. Seeing no issues, she smoothed Wei Yuxian’s furry hat and said, “You’re good to go.”
Wei Yuxian was on the verge of cheering out loud! She wanted to rush outside immediately!
But then she remembered her condition and restrained herself.
