Chapter 99: At Least Let Her Have a Good Year

Fu Xuanyi continued to stay silent, rolling the Buddhist beads in his hand round and round, each movement exerting significant force.

Thankfully, the Buddhist beads were of good quality; otherwise, they might have broken in Fu Xuanyi’s hands.

After a while, he finally spoke, his voice hoarse, “Summon my mother.”

Lu Chengxiao didn’t know what his intention was, but he followed the order and went downstairs to call Mrs. Fu upstairs.

Mrs. Fu was currently watching TV with Wei Yuxian. Upon hearing the summons, she sensed that something was amiss but didn’t show any abnormal reaction, merely patting Wei Yuxian’s hand before heading upstairs.

“You watch for a while by yourself, I’ll be back soon,” she said gently.

Wei Yuxian obediently nodded a few times. “Okay, okay,” she replied.

So, she watched as Lu Chengxiao escorted Mrs. Fu upstairs to Fu Xuanyi’s study. Even Mr. Fu followed them upstairs.

For a moment, she was incredibly curious about what they were discussing in the study.

Wasn’t it about her parents? What else could Fu Xuanyi and Mrs. Fu be discussing?

Wei Yuxian was filled with questions but couldn’t figure out any answers. She could only continue watching TV to pass the time.

She hoped time would pass quickly so she could talk to Lu Chengxiao sooner.

As Wei Yuxian bored herself downstairs, the atmosphere in the study remained as heavy as before.

After Mr. and Mrs. Fu went upstairs, Fu Xuanyi instructed Lu Chengxiao to brief them again on the situation. This time, Lu Chengxiao kept it brief, finishing in just three minutes.

After hearing the summary, Mr. and Mrs. Fu fell into silence as well. Everyone’s expression was equally solemn.

The reason Fu Xuanyi called his mother upstairs was because he couldn’t make a decision on his own and wanted to hear what his mother had to say.

Yuxian was still pregnant. If she knew about all this, she would probably be deeply saddened.

She had only just managed to free herself from those sorrowful emotions. How could he let her fall into them again?

Fu Xuanyi looked at his mother, his voice even hoarser, and asked, “Mom, what do you think?”

Mrs. Fu was still reflecting on what Lu Chengxiao had just said. She sighed and replied, “We can’t let Yuxian know right now. It would hurt her.”

Fu Xuanyi then asked, “When should we tell her?”

Mrs. Fu thought for a moment and said, “We can’t keep it from her forever. She has to know at some point. At least, let her have a good year.”

Fu Xuanyi nodded. “Understood.”

He knew how to arrange things next.

The atmosphere in the study remained heavy. After a while, Mrs. Fu composed herself and said, “I’ll go downstairs to check on her. Xiao Lu, Yuxian might want to talk to you later. If she asks, just say we haven’t found anything yet, but we have some leads.”

Before she went downstairs, she reminded Lu Chengxiao not to let anything slip.

Lu Chengxiao reassured her, “I promise I won’t say anything!”

With that, Aunt Fu went downstairs feeling reassured. When she reached the living room, Wei Yuxian was still watching TV. It was playing a melodramatic idol drama, not the Spring Festival Gala.

Compared to the Gala, the idol drama seemed more appealing to her, so she chose to watch it instead.

In their circle, it was rare for them to watch the Spring Festival Gala. Usually, they would go out to have fun or watch other shows.

Seeing Aunt Fu coming downstairs, Wei Yuxian smiled at her but didn’t ask anything.

Then, she stretched her neck to look towards the stairs, hoping to see if Lu Chengxiao had come down yet.

After several seconds of waiting without seeing him, she could only retract her neck in disappointment.

She thought to herself, “How long are they going to talk?”

After a few more minutes, Lu Chengxiao finally came downstairs. His complexion looked much better, no longer wearing a troubled expression.

Wei Yuxian couldn’t hold back anymore. She stood up and walked over, saying, “Mr. Lu, can I talk to you?”

Lu Chengxiao glanced at Mrs. Fu in front of him, recalling her earlier reminder. He couldn’t help but glance towards the old lady’s direction.

Coincidentally, Mrs. Fu was also looking at him at that moment, gently shaking her head as a reminder not to let anything slip.

He gave her a knowing look, indicating that he understood, then turned to Wei Yuxian and said, “Of course, Madam.”

Wei Yuxian felt a surge of joy. Leading him to a corner away from Mrs. Fu, she ensured some distance so they wouldn’t overhear their conversation.

Once they stopped, she couldn’t wait and asked, “Mr. Lu, did Ah Xuan ask you to investigate my biological parents?”

Hearing her question, Lu Chengxiao couldn’t help but marvel at Mrs. Fu’s intuition.

He glanced at Mrs. Fu again, but this time, Mrs. Fu didn’t look back at him, only leaving him with her back.

Under Wei Yuxian’s expectant gaze, Lu Chengxiao took a deep breath and said, “Yes, Madam, Master Xuanyi indeed tasked me with investigating this matter.”

If Guan Jinyou hadn’t taken his annual leave, this task would have been assigned to him, sparing him from facing the anticipation in Wei Yuxian’s eyes.

Wei Yuxian’s eyes immediately lit up! Unable to contain her joy, she asked, “Have you found any information? Were you just reporting to Ah Xuan earlier?”

Struggling to maintain a smile on his face, Lu Chengxiao replied, “Yes, I did find some information, and I indeed reported to Master Xuanyi earlier. But, Madam, we haven’t found the person yet.”

Wei Yuxian felt a bit disappointed upon hearing this, but knowing even a little bit of information made her happy!

At least, there was some news about her biological parents!

Wei Yuxian’s entire demeanor was relaxed, feeling incredibly happy!

Seeing her smile, Lu Chengxiao felt a pang of discomfort in his heart. He couldn’t bear to stay here any longer and said, “Madam, if you still want to know anything, you can ask Master Xuanyi. I have some urgent matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”

Seeing his anxious expression, Wei Yuxian nodded understandingly, “Alright, you should go quickly then, don’t let anything delay you. And thank you, Mr. Lu.”

With a brief “Goodbye, Madam,” Lu Chengxiao hurriedly left the Fu Mansion, afraid that if he stayed another second, he might inadvertently reveal the news to her!

Feeling quite pleased, Wei Yuxian returned to the living room. Fu Xuanyi still hadn’t come down. She wondered what he was so busy with in the study.

After watching TV with the old lady for a while, she checked the time and realized it was almost time to go to bed. She needed to go back to her room to take a shower and get ready for bed.

She didn’t have the habit of staying up late; in fact, she rarely stayed up past her usual bedtime. Especially after becoming pregnant, her need for sleep had increased even more!

Seeing Wei Yuxian heading back to her room, the old lady also retired to her own room; after all, elderly folks couldn’t stay up late.

Wei Yuxian returned to her room, took a shower in the bathroom for about half an hour, and then came out. She half-expected to see Fu Xuanyi’s figure, as he usually appeared around this time.
