22: He Really Has Not Lost His Memory

At 2 pm in the afternoon, the downtown area was bustling with a constant flow of people.

The headquarters of Zongheng Group is located next to a prosperous commercial district, towering high into the sky with magnificent momentum. The glass exterior reflects the blue sky, causing passersby to involuntarily look up.

Inside the building, a young man dressed in a light-colored tailored waistcoat, with a slender figure and delicate and handsome features, entered a dedicated elevator. His meticulously groomed hairstyle complemented his high-collared sky-blue shirt. In his hands, he held thick files, and around his neck hung a specially made employee card.

The name column on the employee card reads two characters, Rong Zhan.

After Rong Zhan entered the luxurious elevator, he used his employee card to swipe the LCD screen above the elevator button and then pressed the button for the 36th floor.

The elevator smoothly ascended all the way up and arrived at the 36th floor in no time.

Upon exiting the elevator, there was a hallway with soft carpeting. At the end of the hallway was an office.

Rong Zhan walked up to the office door, curled his fingers, knocked on the door, and waited quietly. After a moment, he pushed open the door and entered.

In the spacious and luxurious office, Ji Canghai lowered the laptop screen in front of him, raised his head, and looked over.

Rong Zhan walked over and placed the file in his hands on Ji Canghai’s desk, “These are the documents you need to process this afternoon.”

Ji Canghai glanced at the file with a calm tone, Got it.”

Rong Zhan lowered his head, “I’ll come to pick it up at 5:10.” After speaking, Rong Zhan bowed his head and left the office. However, he paused for a second when closing the door, turned sideways, and looked at Ji Canghai, “I think he will return to China in the second half of the year.”

Ji Canghai’s face instantly turned livid. He raised his eyes and looked at Rong Zhan. His alpha gaze was as sharp as a finely sharpened iron hook, causing Rong Zhan, as an omega, to shiver instinctively.

“Got it,” Ji Canghai lowered his gaze, saying the same thing.

Rong Zhan left the office and closed the door.

Ji Canghai rubbed his forehead wearily, brought the file to his front, and then reopened his laptop.

On the computer screen, four monitoring camera windows were neatly arranged on the left, monitoring his residence from all angles. On the right side of the screen, there was an audio recording of a conversation between Ling Yunfan and Zheng Siqing.

Ji Canghai held the mouse and clicked play, and the sound of their conversation came from the computer.

Zheng Siqing, “…cook your favorite braised pork ribs for you.”

Ling Yunfan, “Hmm, thanks.”

Ji Canghai paused the audio and held his chin with his thumb and index finger, remembering how Ling Yunfan looked when he saw the braised pork ribs at lunchtime, feeling a bit regretful for his impulsive behavior.

Ji Canghai thought to himself, I was right, Ling Yunfan indeed did not lose his memory, so I should be more careful with my words and actions in order to smoothly carry out the plan.

After settling his mind, Ji Canghai looked at the monitoring screen and noticed that Ling Yunfan was tinkering with the door at the entrance again.

Ji Canghai couldn’t help but frown.

Ling Yunfan felt that his thoughts were logical.

In front of him was a door.

A safe and anti-theft door.

It should indeed be sturdy.

But if it is so secure that even the people inside the house can’t open it.

Then it’s not following the path of security and anti-theft, it’s damn well following the path of pure prison!

Considering that the designer of this door couldn’t and shouldn’t be rebellious to such an extent, Ling Yunfan believed that there must be a way to open it from the inside without needing fingerprints or a password.

Yunfanovsky Ling once said that there are five types of webs in this world: emotional webs, spider webs, fishing nets, legal webs, and the internet where you can find answers to problems you don’t understand.

Ling Yunfan looked at the sign on the password-protected door and then sat casually in the hallway. He took out the new phone that Ji Canghai had given him from his pocket and began to search for information about the brand of the door.

After searching for a long time, Ling Yunfan finally found the instruction manual for this type of door online. After reading it carefully, he suddenly realized something.

The anti-theft door had an extremely concealed cover above the door handle inside the house. By opening the cover and long-pressing the small button inside, the password for the door could be reset, and new fingerprints and passwords could be recorded.

It sounded complicated, but once he understood it, he found it very simple.

Ling Yunfan remembered that he had seen a small screwdriver in a drawer in the study when he was looking for paper and pens. It happened to match the screw on the cover, which should have been left behind during the door installation.

Excitedly, Ling Yunfan found the screwdriver and came to the password-protected door.

However, just as he was about to unscrew the screw, a thought stopped him, if he reset the password for the door and left, what if Ji Canghai couldn’t figure out how to operate the door when he came back? Wouldn’t he be causing trouble for him?

These past few days, he had been living off of someone else’s hospitality. If he left without taking care of things properly, wouldn’t he be a heartless person?

Just as Ling Yunfan hesitated, he heard the crisp sound of the door’s keypad being pressed from outside.

Before he could react, the door was opened and Ji Canghai stood outside with a file folder in hand, looking up to meet Ling Yunfan’s gaze as he held the screwdriver.

Ling Yunfan instinctively hid the screwdriver behind him, but he knew that his slow action was useless. He awkwardly chuckled twice and asked, “Why did you get off work so early today?”

“I had a light workload this afternoon,” Ji Canghai replied with confusion. “What are you doing?”

“Oh, I, I..,” Ling Yunfan stuttered.

If he said he was inspired and wanted to immediately pick up tools and break free from constraints to join the wave of building a harmonious society, would Ji Canghai believe him?

Well, Ji Canghai is not a fool.

Ling Yunfan broke down and admitted, “I found the instruction manual for this password lock online and learned how to change the password.”

This is really troublesome. His urgent desire to leave will surely arouse Ji Canghai’s suspicion, right?

Ling Yunfan uncomfortably averted his gaze, waiting for Ji Canghai’s questioning.

But to his surprise, Ji Canghai spoke with a slightly pleased tone, “Hmm? You already figured it out?”

“Ah?” Ling Yunfan was stunned for a moment. “Yes, yes.”

Ji Canghai smiled and said, “Wow, you’re amazing.”

This praise really left Ling Yunfan at a loss.

Ji Canghai changed into his indoor slippers, put the file bag in the study, and came out with his sleeves rolled up, walking towards the entrance while asking Ling Yunfan with a smile, “What should I do?”

It took Ling Yunfan a while to come back to his senses. “Oh, first unscrew this screw.” He pointed to the position above the doorknob.

“I’ll do it,” Ji Canghai took the screwdriver from Ling Yunfan’s hand, walked to the door, unscrewed the screw, and opened the cover. Sure enough, there was a button behind the cover.

Ling Yunfan reached out and held the button for five seconds. The anti-theft door emitted a pleasant chime, followed by a mechanical voice saying, “Reset successful. Please set the initial password. Press the * to begin, and press the # key to end.”

Ling Yunfan muttered, “It’s really reset.”

Ji Canghai looked at him with gentle eyes and said, “Let’s set a new password together.”

“Okay,” Ling Yunfan agreed.

Ji Canghai thought for a moment, and asked with a smile, “How about using the day we met as the password?”

Ling Yunfan was slightly surprised but nodded.

“Do you remember what date we met?” Ji Canghai asked with a smile.

Ling Yunfan shook his head.

Ji Canghai wasn’t surprised, Even if Ling Yunfan didn’t pretend to have amnesia, Ji Canghai believed that he would have forgotten.

Ji Canghai set the password while telling Ling Yunfan, “It was July 11th.”

That was the day when it was pouring rain, and Ling Yunfan brought the drenched Ji Canghai back home.

Ling Yunfan watched as Ji Canghai entered the password with his lips pursed, and muttering in his heart.

It was actually June 21st when I went to the teacher’s office and noticed you.

Unexpectedly, in my life, our meeting happened twenty days earlier than you thought.
