Chapter 26: Rolling in the Cornfield

The one who had just vividly recounted the story about the cornfield was known as Aunt Wang.

She was a petty woman, skilled in handling matters with tact.

Aunt Wang was frail and often sick, but she had a sharp tongue.

When faced with someone as tough as Liu Xiaolan, she immediately cowered like a quail.

Aunt Wang pursed her lips and looked at Liu Xiaolan ingratiatingly. “Oh dear, we were just joking. Don’t take it seriously.”

“I joke about your mother, you filthy old hag! Half of your body is already in the grave, yet you’re still obsessing over such nonsense. I bet it’s because your man is dead, and you have no one to ride you, so your whole body is itching, isn’t it?”

Aunt Wang felt that her innocence had been insulted.

A fire sparked in her heart, and she suddenly became bolder.

“Liu Xiaolan, you… you wretched woman! How dare you ruin my reputation? I’ll fight you!”

Aunt Wang hunched her body and charged straight at Liu Xiaolan’s stomach with her head.

But Liu Xiaolan didn’t give her the chance. She grabbed Aunt Wang’s braid, yanked it hard, and immediately sent her tumbling to the ground.

“You old wretch! How dare you slander my daughter-in-law’s reputation? I’ll beat you to death!”

Liu Xiaolan scratched at Aunt Wang’s face.

However, she still held back somewhat.

This old woman was nothing but skin and bones, looking sickly as well. If she really went all out and crippled her, the consequences wouldn’t be worth it.

So, relying on her years of experience in fights, Liu Xiaolan deliberately avoided any vital areas.

She made sure the old hag felt the pain—but not enough to truly injure her.

“Liu Xiaolan, you bully the elderly! You will die a terrible death! Shen Jiaojiao is nothing but a vixen! She was rolling around with men in the cornfield! She’s a shameless whore!”

Aunt Wang was desperate, spouting nonsense in her anger.

“You son of a bitch! You still dare to speak?”

Liu Xiaolan slapped Aunt Wang twice across the face.

Then she grabbed Aunt Wang’s hair and dragged her straight into the cornfield.

“If you dare to say such things, then show us! Tell everyone exactly which part of the cornfield you heard these sounds from! If you can’t explain yourself properly—if you’re lying—then I swear on my life, I’ll bury you alive!”

Aunt Wang was dragged into the cornfield.  

The rest of the people, eager to watch the drama unfold, stopped working and followed along.  

Someone ran off to inform Captain.  

“Captain, something bad is happening! Liu Xiaolan and Aunt Wang are rolling in the cornfield!”  

Captain’s face twisted in shock.  

“What did you say? Liu Xiaolan and Aunt Wang? What the hell are two women rolling around in the cornfield for?”  

In the countryside, the cornfield was often a place where illicit affairs happened, so Captain immediately misunderstood.  

“No, no! They’re fighting in the cornfield! You need to go now, or someone’s going to get seriously hurt!”  

Captain felt his blood pressure rising again.  

Liu Xiaolan. Again!  

Meanwhile, Liu Xiaolan had already dragged Aunt Wang deep into the cornfield.  

“You were talking like you saw it with your own eyes, weren’t you? Well then, which part of the cornfield was it? Show us!”  

If someone had really been rolling around in the cornfield, there would definitely be traces left behind.  

This was common knowledge in the countryside.  

There had been cases before where, the morning after, people arrived to work in the fields only to find footprints everywhere and corn stalks flattened in patches.  

No need to guess—anyone could tell a heated affair had taken place there the night before.  

Aunt Wang, still fuming, got up from the ground and marched deeper into the cornfield.  

“Hmph! I wasn’t lying! It happened just two nights ago, right in here!”  

Aunt Wang might have been old, but her hearing was still sharp—she had really heard something that night.  

The crowd of onlookers followed her into the cornfield, eager to see what would happen next.  

Aunt Wang strode forward with an air of righteousness.  

Suddenly, rustling sounds came from deeper within the field—hurried, panicked movements.  

There were even muffled voices—one male, one female.  

Aunt Wang’s eyes lit up.  

See? This was what they called divine intervention.  

They had come looking for evidence, and now, they had stumbled upon an actual affair in progress!

It had to be Shen Jiaojiao.  

Just now, Shen Jiaojiao had been walking with Fang Qinghe.  

Aunt Wang, filled with excitement, quickened her pace.  

With a sudden burst of energy, she charged straight into the depths of the cornfield.  

“Well, well! You two actually dared to fool around in broad daylight! Caught red-handed now, haven’t you?”  

Aunt Wang’s loud voice rang through the field.  

Immediately after, there was a woman’s shriek.  

Then, another scream—this time, it was Aunt Wang herself.  

The crowd hurriedly rushed over.  

When they finally surrounded the scene, they realized—  

There really were people in the cornfield.  

Two of them, completely naked, caught in the act.  

The two scrambled to grab their clothes, fumbling to cover themselves.  

“Wait! Isn’t that Aunt Wang’s daughter-in-law?” someone exclaimed in shock.  

“It is! And the man is the village’s Pig Butcher!” another chimed in.  

The crowd stared unabashedly at the half-dressed pair on the ground.  

“Tsk, tsk, tsk… Pig Butcher sure is strong. Look at the muscles on his arms—so powerful! Though, he does have a bit too much chest hair.”  

“And Aunt Wang’s daughter-in-law is so scrawny! Not even two ounces of meat on her, just skin and bones. With Pig Butcher’s size, wouldn’t he crush her under him?”  

“Aunt Wang, you said you heard noises in the cornfield at night too. Could it be that the wildest moaning woman was actually your own daughter-in-law?”  

Liu Xiaolan burst into laughter.  

“Oh my, Aunt Wang! Look how skinny your daughter-in-law is! Have you been starving her at home, forcing her to sneak out for some fun?”  

She clapped her hands and continued mockingly: “Ah, right! You’ve always been an infamous Evil Mother-in-Law who beats her son’s wife. I bet she’s taken plenty of beatings from you, hasn’t she?”

At this moment, Aunt Wang’s face had turned extremely ugly.  

Her eyes gleamed with fury, and her entire body trembled with rage.  

She truly felt that she had lost all dignity.  

“You shameless little slut! A disgrace! A jinx! I’ll beat you to death!”  

Aunt Wang yanked off her shoe and swung it hard across her daughter-in-law’s face.  

A loud smack echoed as the woman’s face swelled red from the blow.  

Even after hitting her, Aunt Wang still felt unsatisfied. She turned and started striking Pig Butcher as well.  

Normally, she wouldn’t have been able to overpower him.  

But Pig Butcher didn’t dare fight back—he could only stand there and take it.  

At that moment, Captain finally arrived.  

When he saw the chaotic scene in the cornfield, his face darkened with rage, and he nearly fainted from anger.  

“Tie them up and carry them back!” he ordered.  

From then on, those two would have no peace.  

Their reputations were ruined completely.  

Now, they were the targets of everyone’s scorn.  

Even though there were certainly other secret affairs happening in the village, the ones who weren’t caught would always look down on those who were.  

They could only blame their bad luck—of all people, they had been the ones exposed.

Shen Jiaojiao had no idea what had happened.  

She just wanted to hurry home.  

It was far too hot outside.  

To get back from the wheat fields, she had to pass through a small grove.  

Just as she entered the grove, hurried footsteps sounded behind her.  

“Shen Jiaojiao, stop right there!”  

Shen Jiaojiao frowned and turned around—  

Fang Qinghe had followed her.
