Chapter 20: Singing
“Okay, got it. Besides, we made quite a bit tonight.”
Zhang Qingmin cheerfully packed the tea into the parcel. In the end, Lin Beixiu, speechless, put the box back on his back and went off to buy fried chicken.
…
“Hurry up, I’m starving.”
As soon as Lin Beixiu returned, several guys started grabbing at the food.
“This school really sucks, holding this event at such a time. We barely had time to eat. If it weren’t for the pretty seniors, I wouldn’t have come.”
Hu Feng retorted, “Who told you to come over without eating just to see the beauties?”
Lin Beixiu looked towards the stage, where indeed a beautiful senior was singing, her magnetic voice rendering “Blue and White Porcelain” as the audience waved along.
It was indeed very pleasant to listen to.
Lin Beixiu stood up and continued to peddle his milk tea.
“Lin Beixiu.”
Hearing his name, Lin Beixiu turned around to see Zhang Tingting and another person, with Qin Muxue standing right beside her.
“It’s you guys.”
Approaching them, Lin Beixiu said to Qin Muxue, “What, not at work?”
“I took a leave to come listen to some music.”
Zhang Tingting stood aside, pouting as she watched their intimate interaction. This best friend, all about boys and no loyalty.
“My boss is overworking me, really.”
Listening to Lin Beixiu’s complaints, Qin Muxue couldn’t help but smile.
“You two, keep it down, will you? I’m still here.”
Hearing Zhang Tingting’s comment, Qin Muxue was the first to blush and kicked her.
“If you don’t speak, no one will think you’re mute.”
“Come on, Handsome Lin, little Xue hasn’t eaten yet. She came to complain to me,” Zhang Tingting mischievously said.
“Don’t listen to her nonsense,” Qin Muxue glared at her, and Zhang Tingting laughed, jumping away a bit.
“Handsome Lin, could you treat us to a cup of milk tea?”
“Don’t mind her.”
Just as Qin Muxue was about to say something, Lin Beixiu took out a piece of fried chicken and a cup of lime grapefruit tea from the box.
That chicken leg was actually ordered by Hu Feng and his group, and he hadn’t eaten it yet.
“Why didn’t you eat?”
“This will have to do.”
Qin Muxue paused, not reaching out to take it. She wanted to say that besides the meals he made, she couldn’t really eat much else. Her taste had been spoiled.
“This doesn’t seem right.”
“Take it.”
Lin Beixiu insisted, thrusting it into her hands.
“What about me, Handsome Lin?”
“Considering you’re Qin Muxue’s best friend, I’ll give you an 80% discount.”
Lin Beixiu returned to his expressionless demeanor, causing Zhang Tingting’s mouth to twitch wildly.
“Fine, I won’t be your third wheel anymore.”
In the end, it was just a joke, and Zhang Tingting also bought a cup of milk tea from him before Lin Beixiu left.
Qin Muxue sipped the grapefruit tea he gave her, feeling increasingly peculiar inside.
“Snap out of it, girlfriend.”
Zhang Tingting’s teasing voice brought Qin Muxue back to reality.
“It’s nice, he even knows you like lime grapefruit tea and prepared it in advance.”
“Tingting.”
Qin Muxue was speechless.
“How far have you guys gone now?”
Qin Muxue weakly argued, “It’s not what you think.”
“Is he chasing you? Are you in the ambiguous phase? Your progress is too slow.”
Qin Muxue: …..
Him chasing me, with his straightforwardness…
Qin Muxue remembered every time Lin Beixiu annoyed her, shaking her head helplessly, unsure what to think.
Compared to others, Qin Muxue found Lin Beixiu more acceptable. She just couldn’t bring herself to dislike him.
Just then, a man walked onto the stage. Qin Muxue glanced over and turned away. It was Zhang Hao, still making a racket.
“This song I’m singing is for the girl I like the most.”
He didn’t even know if Qin Muxue was in the audience and just went up to perform. The people below had no idea who Zhang Hao liked, with a small part in the know, but most were just there for the excitement.
Confessions like this don’t happen often. If there’s excitement, you’ve got to be part of it.
Qin Muxue watched the stage with cold eyes, then turned and walked away.
“Annoying.”
Zhang Tingting laughed and followed her.
…
In fact, she hadn’t left, held back by Zhang Tingting, and they even found Lin Beixiu resting in a corner and sat down to chat.
“Aren’t you going to go out and show your face?”
Facing Lin Beixiu’s teasing gaze, Qin Muxue wanted to leave again, this damn conversation ended too soon.
“Get lost.”
His singing was actually quite good, attracting many cheers from the girls below. He was handsome, too.
…
In the end, the performance, which should have concluded, saw the host back on stage.
“Now, as we’re leaving, let’s play a little game. We’ll pick someone to come up and show off their talent.”
With the announcement of a new segment, the crowd grew curious and cheered in agreement.
A new, exciting program was always welcomed.
As the neon light moved around, everyone tensed up, hoping it wouldn’t land on them and force them to embarrass themselves on stage.
Ding.
The light stopped on a corner, drawing curious glances.
Lin Beixiu’s mouth twitched. He never thought the light would fall on him, with the two women beside him stunned.
“Handsome Lin, you’re the man,” Zhang Tingting said, not afraid to stir things up.
“What will you perform?”
Qin Muxue tilted her head to look at him, silent, but her expression betrayed her eagerness to see Lin Beixiu’s embarrassment.
“Let’s congratulate this student. Young man, please come up.”
Lin Beixiu handed the box to Qin Muxue, “Keep this for me.”
He walked up reluctantly.
“Isn’t this the handsome Lin Beixiu? Lucky you.”
His dorm mates, Hu Feng and the others, quickly took delight in his misfortune.
As Lin Beixiu walked, whispers followed.
“This guy is so handsome.”
“I know him, I just bought his milk tea. Too bad he’s so cold, rejected my WeChat request.”
“Now that you mention it, I remember too.”
…
The female host’s eyes lit up seeing such a handsome student.
Finally, Lin Beixiu took the microphone, standing a distance away from them.
“Young man, how do you feel about being chosen?”
“Nothing.”
Lin Beixiu’s earnest tone amused the audience.
“So, what do you plan to perform? Dancing, singing, even if you’re tone-deaf, you can give it a try,” the host joked.
“I’ll sing.”
Facing the expectant looks from below, Lin Beixiu spoke slowly, something he definitely wouldn’t have done in the past.
“What song would you like to sing?”
“An old song, ‘The Sea.'”
The audience was unfamiliar, puzzled for a moment but then waited quietly.
Only Qin Muxue, hearing the name, widened her eyes, sitting stunned, her face incredulous.
