Until the end of that day’s work, Yu Nian was still pondering over what Song Yunchun had said.
Although he was gay, if he imagined himself as a straight guy, it would be difficult for him to remain indifferent when a beautiful and cheerful girl was so enthusiastic towards him.
Even if it didn’t end up in a relationship, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.
What’s the deal with Qi Wang?
He couldn’t really be serious about becoming a monk, could he?
He mulled over it, feeling like there were eight hundred rabbits jumping up and down in his mind.
Despite knowing that the likelihood of his crush having the same sexual orientation as him was extremely low, he couldn’t help but fantasize.
When they finished work, Qi Wang drove him home on his motorcycle. Sitting on the pillion seat, Yu Nian poked Qi Wang’s back.
“What’s up?” Qi Wang asked.
Yu Nian hugged Qi Wang’s waist, the words lingering on his tongue for a while before he forced them out as naturally as possible, “Nothing, I just wanted to ask why you don’t have a girlfriend. You’re so handsome, and even though your temper… well, your temper is a bit off, but you’re a good person, reliable, good at fixing electronics, making coffee, good at cooking, all the essential qualities for a partner. There are so many girls who like you, don’t you like any of them?”
Qi Wang scoffed.
He lazily replied, “You’re giving me quite high praise.”
Yu Nian laughed, resting his chin on Qi Wang’s shoulder, “Of course.”
Otherwise, why would he like Qi Wang?
As he spoke, their proximity caused his breath to brush against Qi Wang’s ear.
It was slightly ticklish.
Qi Wang stopped at a traffic light, feeling a bit annoyed for some reason.
“I’ve never thought about dating,” he said casually, his tone unreadable, “There’s no reason, I just haven’t thought about it, don’t find it interesting, and I’m not suitable for being with someone.”
Yu Nian was puzzled.
“What do you mean by not suitable?” he didn’t understand, “If you like someone, and they like you back, isn’t that suitable? How do you know it’s not suitable if you haven’t tried?”
Qi Wang lowered his eyes, a hint of complexity and aloofness in his gaze.
This time, he didn’t answer Yu Nian’s question.
“I said what I said,” he directly ended the conversation, “Ask too many questions and I’ll throw you off.”
Yu Nian was forced to stay silent.
But he soon couldn’t resist asking again, tugging at Qi Wang’s clothes, “Then do you have a favorite female celebrity?”
To clear his conscience, he added, “I just want to see what type you like, so I can keep an eye out for you in the future.”
Qi Wang couldn’t care less about whether female celebrities were curvy or slender.
Having lived for twenty years, he didn’t recognize many female celebrities. The most recent one he remembered was Tang Rao, whom he remembered from the movie he watched with Yu Nian last time.
However, as they happened to pass by a corner of a restaurant with a retro theme, there were posters of past celebrities on the windows. Qi Wang casually glanced and saw a poster of “Malèna.”
He answered Yu Nian’s question without much thought, “Monica Bellucci.”
“What?” Yu Nian exclaimed sincerely, even a bit tragically.
“You like someone so…,” he pondered for a moment, feeling downright mournful, “so sexy.”
Qi Wang nonchalantly responded with a “Hmm,” “Any problem?”
“…No.”
Yu Nian was devastated, banging his head against Qi Wang’s back.
Damn, Monica Bellucci’s figure, her charm, front and back, was stunningly beautiful, known as the earth’s flower.
Looking at himself again, slender and flat, and male, there was simply no matching point.
For a moment, Yu Nian’s heart turned to ashes, thoroughly beaten down. He remained completely silent on the way back home.
But as soon as he entered the neighborhood, he became lively again. Climbing the stairs, he grabbed Qi Wang’s clothes and began chattering.
“Qi Wang, let’s celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival together tomorrow,” he chirped incessantly, his voice echoing in the corridor, even the stray cat on the neighboring windowsill would find him annoying. He thought to himself, right now he was also a rebellious runaway, his older siblings might not even want to see him, and Qi Wang, being an orphan, didn’t have many friends either. The two of them made a perfect pair, “Let’s go out for dinner after work, then watch a movie and go shopping at night, and come back to share mooncakes together, okay?”
He grabbed Qi Wang’s clothes and didn’t walk steadily, bouncing every three or four steps.
Qi Wang felt like there was a spring behind him.
He unlocked the door with his key and coldly refused, “No, I have a part-time job tomorrow.”
Yu Nian’s face fell.
Now he also knew what Qi Wang’s other part-time job was. It seemed similar to Song Yunchun’s place, going to another bar to bartend at night.
He’s quite talented.
Yu Nian muttered to himself.
But despite his repeated attempts to go with Qi Wang to see this job, Qi Wang consistently refused.
He persisted, “But I want to spend Mid-Autumn Festival with you. How about I come to your bar to find you?”
Qi Wang immediately rejected, “No.”
Yu Nian’s face fell even more.
After entering the door, he lingered and stood in front of his own room, silently staring at Qi Wang, his eyes filled with accusation.
Qi Wang found it somewhat amusing to be stared at like that.
He brushed open his own door, watching as it was about to close, but his hand stopped in mid-air.
He looked at Yu Nian’s dejected expression, a faint smile appearing at the corners of his mouth.
He chuckled and asked Yu Nian, “If I don’t spend Mid-Autumn Festival with you tomorrow, will you still save mooncakes for me?”
Yu Nian really wanted to stubbornly say he wouldn’t save any, go cry somewhere.
But when he really met Qi Wang’s gaze, he couldn’t help but pout.
“I’ll save them. Why wouldn’t I?” he said with resignation, “I’m just that unprincipled.”
This time, Qi Wang genuinely laughed.
“Alright then,” he said, “If the bar isn’t busy tomorrow, I won’t go to work and will spend Mid-Autumn Festival with you.”
Yu Nian was stunned.
He turned his head to look at Qi Wang, who had one hand on the doorknob, his shadow elongated by the light, looking calm and casual, as if it was just a casual agreement.
But Yu Nian was already feeling happy.
He hurried over, taking a few steps and squeezing into the doorway next to Qi Wang.
“Then it’s settled,” he grabbed Qi Wang’s finger and forcefully hooked his pinky, “You can’t lie to me.”
Qi Wang looked at his pinky being hooked up and couldn’t help but think Yu Nian was childish.
Even elementary schoolers weren’t interested in doing pinky promises anymore.
But when he met Yu Nian’s eyes, the words at the tip of his tongue stopped, turning into a simple “Okay.”
The next day, Qi Wang called the bar in advance to say he wouldn’t be working that night.
Although he was a bartender, he was more of an assistant, almost like an apprentice. Taking a day off wasn’t a big deal.
The bar’s owner, Zhao Hui, had some acquaintance with him before and wouldn’t make things difficult for him. Although he laughed and scolded over the phone, “The bar has been so busy these days, and you choose now to bail on me, what a timing,” he thought for a moment and remembered Qi Wang’s hardworking personality when coming to work regardless of wind or rain. He then asked with concern, “But what are you doing? Is there something going on?”
Qi Wang replied, “Nothing, just promised someone to spend the holiday with them.”
“Huh?” Zhao Hui was baffled, “Who? Sounds pretty cool.”
He wasn’t unfamiliar with Qi Wang’s situation. He kept to himself, was reclusive, and without family. The people he had contact with could be counted on one hand.
He immediately thought of something else, “Damn, kid, don’t tell me you have a date with a girl?”
What’s going on here?
Qi Wang was speechless, furrowing his brow, “No, it’s with a kid from the restaurant, a boy. Alright, I’ll hang up if there’s nothing else.”
After saying that, he hung up the phone, leaving Zhao Hui on the other end with a suspicious look. A boy? That seemed fine.
But when he looked up, he saw a pair of men across the street hugging each other intimately, reluctant to part. He immediately slapped his thigh.
What’s wrong with men? Are men okay now?
After hanging up the phone, Qi Wang opened his phone and looked at nearby restaurants, ready to make a reservation first.
On a holiday like Mid-Autumn Festival, the streets were so crowded that it was hard to move, let alone inside restaurants.
But he didn’t expect that it would be Yu Nian who would stand him up in the end.
Yu Nian received a call from his brother near dusk.
At that time, he was giving a customer’s little girl some lollipops. These were the new products in the restaurant, given away for free by Song Yunchun.
The little girl had a small bun on her head, looking about five or six years old, with soft cheeks and big round eyes. She politely thanked him, melting his heart.
And when he stood up again, his phone in his pocket rang.
At first, Yu Nian didn’t pay attention and didn’t look at the name on the phone, thinking it was just a delivery he had ordered. He put the tray down and subconsciously brought it to his ear, “Hello.”
But there was silence on the other end.
After a while, he heard a gentle sigh, a voice he was all too familiar with, calling him softly, “Nian Nian.”
