Yu Nian took the bus and swayed to the restaurant. When he pushed the door, Qi Wang was already standing on the bar counter starting to work. The black glass was held in his hand, making the back of his hand even whiter, whether pressing the coffee powder or holding the handle, it was all neat and clean.
Yu Nian didn’t even look, he went straight past to change into his work uniform.
He was working as a waiter today, so he had to wear an apron. His hair had grown a bit longer recently, so he tied it up with a small rubber band.
When he came out after changing into his uniform, Xiao Gu and Chu Hejun had also arrived. Xiao Gu was still drinking her soy milk, greeted Yu Nian with vigor and asked, “Good morning, did you sleep well after moving into your new place yesterday?”
Ignoring that, Yu Nian had a face full of frustration. He really wanted to rant with the two of them, but just then, the wind chime on the door rang, signaling the arrival of a customer.
Yu Nian could only say, “We’ll talk later when we have a break. I’m really having a streak of bad luck.”
With that, he went to attend to the customer.
Xiao Gu and Chu Hejun glanced at each other, not understanding what he meant.
The morning passed quickly in the hustle and bustle. It was the weekend, so the restaurant was always busy.
It was Yu Nian’s first time working as a waiter, so he was a bit clumsy.
At lunchtime, Song Yunchun also arrived, and as soon as she entered, Yu Nian accidentally broke a glass.
“Oops.”
Yu Nian quickly squatted down to pick it up, but the glass shards were too sharp, and he cut his finger.
Song Yunchun: “!”
Good heavens.
She had just promised those two siblings not to let Yu Nian even drop a single hair in her restaurant, and less than 24 hours later, this precious young master was bleeding from a cut.
Seeing Yu Nian still clumsily cleaning up, she walked over in three or two steps and grabbed him.
“Alright, alright, we’ll sweep away the shards and throw them in the trash later, don’t pick them up,” she said as she checked Yu Nian’s hand. Thankfully, it was just a small cut, and she breathed a sigh of relief. Worriedly, she said, “Wait here, I’ll go get some iodine for you.”
Yu Nian felt quite embarrassed.
It was just a small cut, not a big deal.
He apologized to Song Yunchun, “Sorry, boss, I’m still not used to it. I made a lot of mistakes today.”
Song Yunchun had already found the iodine from the cabinet and waved her hand at his apology.
“It’s nothing. You’re not originally a waiter. We’re short-handed and pulled you in temporarily. It’s already good enough that you’re willing to help.”
She disinfected Yu Nian’s wound and put a band-aid on it, intending to let this young master sit aside for a while. She was hesitant to let him work.
But then she thought of what Yu Xinli said, not wanting Yu Nian to notice anything unusual, so she swallowed the words she was about to say.
Yu Nian finished dealing with the wound and went back to work.
Their staff uniform was a black apron. With Yu Nian’s hair tied up in a small bun and his fair and soft cheeks, he smiled warmly as he introduced the menu. He was quite likable.
So even though he wasn’t very proficient in memorizing the menu and took a bit longer to take orders, the customers didn’t mind.
Song Yunchun had occupied a table by the window, sipping coffee and feeling somewhat sentimental.
If Yu Xinli and Pei Zhao hadn’t come to find her, she really wouldn’t have thought that this amiable and cute Xiao Yu would turn out to be such a big shot.
She could tell that Yu Nian’s family background shouldn’t be bad, but she never expected it to be so prominent.
Song Yunchun couldn’t help but feel a bit worried. How could she take care of Yu Nian properly?
It was fine in the restaurant since she had surveillance cameras, and Yu Nian was an honest person who didn’t cause trouble. She would also come by occasionally to make sure Yu Nian’s safety was guaranteed.
But what about after work?
Although theoretically, she could ignore what happened to Yu Nian after work, when she communicated with Yu Xinli and Pei Zhao yesterday, they only asked her to take care of him and didn’t say anything about accompanying him 24/7.
But taking someone’s money meant taking responsibility for their well-being.
She received such a big gift from Yu Xinli and Pei Zhao, and her conscience was troubled. If she just brushed it off, Song Yunchun felt that she couldn’t do it.
Soon it was time for the staff’s lunch break.
The lunchtime customers had left, and the restaurant was cleaned up a bit. It was time for the staff to eat and rest.
Song Yunchun stayed behind as well.
But she wasn’t very hungry, so she didn’t join the others for lunch. She grabbed a sandwich and sat on a high stool by the window.
She nibbled on her sandwich while scrolling through her phone.
Yu Nian, Xiao Gu, and Chu Hejun sat not far from her table.
Perhaps because she was looking at her phone, the three of them thought she wouldn’t hear them, so even though they lowered their voices, they weren’t too quiet.
Yu Nian mentioned that he became neighbors with Qi Wang.
He poked at his omelet rice with a spoon, feeling upset and unable to eat. He said weakly, “It’s unbelievable. When I opened the door this morning, I found Qi Wang coming out from the other door. C City is so big, with so many streets and houses for rent, why did he have to live next to me? What kind of luck is this?”
Xiao Gu couldn’t help but laugh , “It’s true, it’s not easy for ordinary people to have such fate.”
Chu Hejun thought for a moment. Although he had no grudges with Qi Wang, the thought of having such an iceberg next door made him feel quite chilly. He felt like he had to be cautious when going out.
But he glanced at Qi Wang, who was eating alone, and slowly said, “Being neighbors with Qi Wang may not be entirely disadvantageous.”
Yu Nian and Xiao Gu looked at him together.
Chu Hejun, with a straw in his mouth, mumbled, “Qi Wang seems like a person who minds his own business and won’t bother you unnecessarily. You don’t share a room, so once the door is closed, you’ll just ignore each other. I remember he’s quite good at fighting, so with him around, the safety factor is higher.”
Chu Hejun said this sincerely.
As a college student living in the dormitory, there were all kinds of people, and their different lifestyles tortured each other.
So this year, he rented a house and moved out on his own.
Yu Nian thought about it thoughtfully.
“…Yeah.”
Since he and Qi Wang didn’t share a room anyway, except for possibly running into each other in the morning, they had no interaction.
It didn’t bother him much.
He finally took a bite of the omelet rice, pondered for a moment, and nodded, “You’re right.”
With this in mind, it didn’t seem so bad.
Nowadays, when sharing a rental, the worst thing was encountering roommates you couldn’t get along with. If you couldn’t get along, it was fine, but some people had bad living habits, which was extremely annoying.
Qi Wang, aside from other things, didn’t seem like someone who would harass his neighbors.
With that said, his luck wasn’t too bad after all.
Yu Nian suddenly felt relieved.
And sitting in front of them, Song Yunchun, who remained as still as a tree stump, listened with gleaming eyes.
Actually, she didn’t hear much, as she wasn’t intentionally eavesdropping.
But she quickly extracted several keywords: Qi Wang, sharing a rental, neighbor.
She had been worrying about who could watch over Yu Nian after work, almost considering doing it herself. But lo and behold, a solution appeared out of nowhere—Heaven actually sent Qi Wang to her.
What a stroke of luck, it was like getting a pillow just as you were about to fall asleep.
Others might not understand Qi Wang, but she did. Not only was he physically capable, but he was also handy around the house, making him indispensable for household chores and travel.
Thinking this, she looked at Qi Wang with a “tender” gaze, her eyes sincere, as if she were looking at a shining treasure.
Qi Wang had finished his meal and was busy on his phone when he suddenly felt a chill down his spine, as if someone was watching him.
