The Peasant Wife Has a Space Chapter 47

Chapter 47: Emergency Relief (Part 4)

“Xiulan, you sit down too. I’ll pour you some water. You must be tired from escorting me back here,” Auntie Chen said, pouring a cup of warm water from the thermos and handing it to Zhao Xiulan.

The water was lukewarm, not too hot.

Zhao Xiulan didn’t mind the old enamel basin Auntie Chen used. She took the cup and gulped down a few mouthfuls, feeling much better after drinking it.

“Xiulan, sit for a moment. I’ll go check on my old man…”

After returning, Auntie Chen couldn’t help but worry about her husband. They were both hungry when she left, and she didn’t know how he was doing now.

Zhao Xiulan nodded, watching Auntie Chen walk towards the room with the old bed.

At this moment, an old man lay on the dilapidated bed, Auntie Chen’s husband.

As Auntie Chen entered the room, she called out to the man on the bed, “Old man, I’ve come back from the black market with some grain. We’ll have food today.”

However, the man on the bed didn’t respond to Auntie Chen.

Auntie Chen panicked for a moment and called out a few more times, but her husband still didn’t respond.

“Old man… what’s wrong? Please don’t scare me! Old man…”

Auntie Chen shook the man on the bed vigorously. Seeing no response, she thought he might have passed away and collapsed to the ground.

Hearing the commotion, Zhao Xiulan rushed into the room.

“Auntie Chen… what’s wrong?” Zhao Xiulan asked nervously.

Auntie Chen’s eyes reddened instantly, and her voice trembled, “Xiulan, my… my husband seems to be in trouble.”

Frowning, Zhao Xiulan glanced at the man on the bed, then approached and reached out to check his breathing.

Thankfully, the man still had a faint breath, albeit weak.

Zhao Xiulan hurriedly reassured Auntie Chen, “Auntie Chen, don’t worry. Your husband is still breathing. I think he just fainted from hunger.”

Just like Auntie Chen earlier, when someone is extremely hungry, they tend to faint easily.

However, they need to eat as soon as possible. If they wait too long, they might really starve to death.

Upon hearing Zhao Xiulan’s words, Auntie Chen’s tense heart finally relaxed, though her eyes were still red.

“Auntie, you go and pour a glass of water to give him. See how he reacts after drinking it,” Zhao Xiulan said.

Following Zhao Xiulan’s instructions, Auntie Chen hurriedly nodded and poured a glass of water, using the enamel basin.

Zhao Xiulan took the basin and intentionally asked Auntie Chen to fetch some more hot water and a towel, saying, “Auntie Chen, you go and fetch some more hot water. I’ll feed him water.”

Auntie Chen’s mind was already in chaos due to her husband’s condition, so she simply followed Zhao Xiulan’s instructions without hesitation.

Taking advantage of Auntie Chen’s departure, Zhao Xiulan quickly retrieved a glucose tablet from her space and fed it to Auntie Chen’s husband.

When someone faints due to hunger, it’s usually because of low blood sugar, so they need to replenish sugar in time.

Luckily, she had glucose tablets in her space, which could come in handy. However, these things couldn’t be taken out casually. That’s why Zhao Xiulan deliberately sent Auntie Chen away and fed the glucose tablet to Auntie Chen’s husband alone.
