Chapter 15.2: Su Qingning Can’t Bounce Around for Much Longer
Xiao Qingya refused to back down and struck a fighting pose at Xiao Huaijin after a few moves.
“Hmph! Don’t you want to compete? Come and challenge me!”
Xiao Huaijin was so scared that he quickly retreated.
“Who would dare to compete with you? If you get hurt, mother will beat me for days!”
Su Qingning watched the harmonious atmosphere among the Xiao family.
Although she wanted to say that they seemed to have it wrong—the ones who should be afraid were the Shen mother and daughter—this was the first time she felt so wholeheartedly cared for by her family, warming her heart.
After a while, the exiled group started their journey under the escort of the officials.
According to the original book, this year would mark the beginning of an unprecedented four-year drought in the history of Da Qian, causing countless people to lose their homes and starve to death in the streets. This was known as the “Yuan De Drought.”
—Yuan De is the current era name.
It was only June, yet the weather was already quite strange.
Several counties in the outskirts had not seen a drop of rain for three consecutive months. Walking under the scorching sun, the temperature felt at least above 35 degrees Celsius.
The exiles were all delicate and used to a life of luxury, and most of them were elderly, weak, women, and children.
After just one hour of walking, complaints began to rise, and the group started to stagger.
The officials whipped a few people to silence the complaints, which helped reduce the noise considerably.
However, some people fainted from heatstroke and were revived by being pinched on the pressure point, forced to continue moving forward.
Seeing that the Xiao family was also quite exhausted, Su Qingning filled the clean water pouches in the space with spring water, pretending to take them out from her bag and hand them to everyone.
At that moment, everyone was dizzy from the heat and didn’t think about how she could pull out so many water pouches from her small bag.
The refreshing and sweet spring water slid down their scorching throats and flowed into their stomachs.
It felt as if a surge of spiritual energy coursed through their bodies, clearing the previously blocked meridians.
Everyone instantly felt their headaches and feverishness lessen significantly, and even the heat from being exposed to the sun for an hour disappeared.
They suddenly felt light on their feet and could walk another fifty miles.
Several members of the Xiao family wore shocked expressions.
Xiao Huaishuo exchanged glances with everyone. Only then did they come back to their senses and casually drank some spring water.
They all sensed something magical, even strange, about Su Qingning.
But with so many people around, they could only pretend that nothing had happened.
“The sister-in-law’s water is sweet!”
Xiao Qingya took a big gulp of spring water, her eyes turning into crescent moons as she smiled.
Su Qingning casually made up a reason: “Yes, sister-in-law added sugar to it. Do you like it, Ya’er?”
“I love it! Sister-in-law is sweet too, and I like sister-in-law!”
Xiao Qingya’s face lit up with a pair of adorable dimples, making her look incredibly cute.
Seeing this made Su Qingning’s heart melt, and she couldn’t help but pinch her chubby little cheek.
Noticing that everyone was reluctant to drink the water in their hands, Su Qingning had to quietly remind them:
“You don’t need to hold back; I have plenty of water. Drink as much as you want.”
She could tell that the Xiao family genuinely cared for her, so she would do her best to take care of them.
Even though they knew Su Qingning was impressive, her words still startled the Xiao family.
A few of them were left with their mouths agape, still in shock, when they heard a commotion ahead.
“Sir, help! My husband is unwell!”
“Sir, over there, the Su family’s master and young master have also fainted!”
