Shen Yu’an couldn’t shake off the unease in her heart. She recalled how Ji Xun had seemed to know about her well-being before. She turned to find Ji Xun, who was still admiring himself in the mirror.
“Ji Xun, can you calculate if there will be any danger in the next two days?” she asked.
Ji Xun placed the mirror face up, holding it with one hand, while his other hand swiftly flipped through his fingers, muttering for a while.
Ignoring the trivial inconveniences, he had calculated, Ji Xun said, “There won’t be any danger. You can relax and continue the journey.”
Hearing Ji Xun’s assurance, Shen Yu’an left with a mixture of trust and doubt in her mind.
However, Shen Yu’an still instructed everyone to set up their tents closer to each other.
As night fell, the Shen family and their companions had their meal and settled down to sleep, leaving only three people on night watch.
The vast forest seemed to have been paused, with not even the sound of rustling leaves.
Unnoticed by anyone, not far from the Shen family’s camp, a young girl sat leisurely on a sturdy tree branch, swinging her legs.
The girl wore a silver accessory necklace around her neck, adorned with intertwined patterns. She also had bracelets and anklets with tinkling bells.
However, the strange thing was that as the young girl swung back and forth, the bells on her accessories made no sound.
With her lively, big eyes, the girl looked towards the tents of the Shen family and their companions.
Hmm~ The handsome man she saw today, whose appearance surpassed that of other men in her clan, seemed to be inside one of those tents.
She really wanted to bring him back and show him to the clan leader, to see if he was worthy of being her husband.
The girl furrowed her brow in dilemma, wondering how she could trick him into going back with her.
After a while, it seemed like the girl had come up with a good idea. She jumped down from the tall tree with satisfaction and ran off, feeling content.
Vaguely, it could be seen that she walked a short distance along the closely spaced trees in the forest and disappeared into a cluster of denser trees.
That night, Shen Yu’an slept restlessly. At times, she felt as if she were engulfed in flames, while at other times, she felt like she was trapped in an icy dungeon. She tried to free herself from these discomforting dreams, but she remained ensnared until the early hours of the morning when she gradually calmed down.
Meanwhile, just a tent away, Fei Yanchen also found himself in a deep dream. Rather than calling it a dream, it was more like an abrupt restoration of his memories before he got injured, without any warning or prelude.
Fei Yanchen’s memories before his injury flooded into his mind, one by one. They were just like the dream he had recently, but these memories were much clearer.
Next, his memories took him back to before he met Shen Yu’an.
He found himself lying in a dried-up ditch, and suddenly, a heavy object came crashing down on him, and that object was Shen Yu’an.
Immediately after, Shen Yu’an… kicked him away.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he couldn’t dodge the kick, and after being sent flying, he lost consciousness. When he woke up, he had all the memories from that point onward.
As Fei Yanchen realized the truth behind his memories, he understood why Shen Yu’an and the rest of the Shen family looked so awkward whenever he mentioned Shen Yu’an as his lifesaver.
The reason was right here.
The next morning, the Shen family woke up early, estimating the time, and they were eager to leave the forest as soon as possible.
Everyone hastily ate some food and packed their belongings onto the cart.
“Let’s go!”
Upon walking for a while, a sudden cry of panic echoed through the marching group, only to quickly fade away.
The group halted their steps and looked around, but they didn’t notice anything amiss.
At that moment, Sanlang spoke up, “Second Brother is missing. He was just walking beside me a moment ago.”
Everyone tried to recall and realized that the voice they heard earlier did resemble Shen Erlang’s voice.
Instinctively, they looked up at the trees, but there was nothing to be seen. Panic started to set in, and they began calling out Shen Erlang’s name loudly.
