Seeing that Shen Dalang didn’t continue to help them untie the ropes, they thought he wanted them to do it themselves.
But when Aunt Pan moved to untie the rope for her husband, Shen Dalang directly stopped her.
Shen Yu’an’s voice came again, “Then go back and bring something to exchange for the people.”
The Pan family members were stunned, and then they realized why Shen Dalang only untied Aunt Pan’s rope.
He was guarding against them untying the ropes without offering anything in return!
Aunt Pan glanced over at her husband.
Her husband had a displeased expression, feeling like he was losing face.
He scolded Aunt Pan, “You, useless woman, what are you looking at me for? Hurry back and bring something!”
As he spoke, he even kicked in her direction while sitting on the ground, but he missed her.
Today, Aunt Pan had already been kicked several times, feeling like her body was falling apart.
Seeing another kick coming her way, she quickly dodged to the side and ran out of Shen’s courtyard.
They all lived in the same village, and despite Aunt Pan’s reluctance, she eventually brought something back to Shen’s courtyard, clutching it in her hands.
Grandma Shen looked at Aunt Pan hesitating to hand over the items and snatched them from her.
There were two silver ingots, ten eggs, and a chicken that looked half-dead.
Grandma Shen felt angry as she saw the eggs in the basin, with cracked shells, and the almost lifeless chicken.
This old woman must have played some tricks on the way to deliberately break the eggs!
And this chicken, it’s supposed to lay eggs. Every household raises them carefully, yet they sent one that’s almost dead.
She turned to Song Shi and said, “Go inside the house, bring that bowl, and pour the eggs into our own bowl.”
When Song poured out the eggs, the egg whites spilled out, mixed with broken shells.
As for the chicken, Zhao Shi held it in her hands. Grandma Shen had intended to place it on the ground, but as soon as she did, the chicken tilted to one side.
Zhao Shi examined the chicken and realized its neck was almost twisted, with just a breath of life left. She had no choice but to carry it in her hands.
Seeing Grandma Shen and the others looking disgusted as if they had just eaten flies, Aunt Pan felt triumphant.
Grandma Shen couldn’t stand her smug look and deliberately said, “It just so happens that we received so many eggs and a chicken. Let’s have them for dinner tonight and nourish our bodies.”
Song Shi and Zhao Shi replied with cheerful smiles.
Aunt Pan’s smug expression froze immediately, and behind her, Grandpa Pan roared, “You useless woman, come over here and untie the ropes for me!”
With this matter settled, Aunt Pan untied the ropes for the rest of the Pan family members, and they quickly ran away.
After exchanging congratulatory words with the remaining people, they also gradually left Shen’s house.
The last to leave were the two midwives.
The whole day had been spent dealing with this incident, and both the Shen and Zhang families hadn’t eaten anything all day.
They didn’t mind much, but they knew that Xiao Zhang had just given birth and needed to replenish her strength.
Grandma Shen had Song Shi and the others take the eggs and chicken that Pan’s wife had brought and prepared a meal.
Meanwhile, she went back to Xiao Zhang’s room to check on the two little ones.
Sanlang and Liulang were not too young anymore, so they couldn’t enter Xiao Zhang’s room at this time. They could only plead with Grandma Shen to carry Xiao Zhang’s babies out so they could see them.
Shen Yu’an was already struggling to hold on; her brain was buzzing. After telling them that she wouldn’t be having dinner, she returned to her own room to rest.
Once in her room, Shen Yu’an took out some instant food from her storage space and had a quick meal before lying down. Soon, she fell into a deep sleep.
