Shen Yu’an brought a pot of medicine over, took a small stool, and sat at the corner between her room and Fei Yanchen’s room to help him prepare the medicine.
She held a fan and gently fanned the flames, making the fire burn brighter.
Fei Yanchen was confined to the room and not allowed to leave. He could only open the window of that room, which conveniently allowed him to see Shen Yu’an sitting there, preparing the medicinal soup.
Fei Yanchen’s injuries were indeed quite severe. As his spirit relaxed, he felt quite dizzy and lightheaded after standing for a while.
Shen Yu’an turned her head and saw him struggling to stand. She urged, “Just sit down there. If you collapse on the ground, I’ll have to go through the trouble of helping you onto the bed.”
Fei Yanchen smiled and sat down. He was well aware of Shen Yu’an’s tough exterior and kind heart. He quipped, “I wouldn’t mind experiencing it.”
A gust of wind blew by, and Shen Yu’an didn’t catch what Fei Yanchen had said, so she asked again.
Fei Yanchen shook his head and changed the topic, “How many suitors did you meet today?”
Shen Yu’an pondered for a moment and replied, “It seems like three.”
Fei Yanchen continued, “Any of them catch your interest?”
Shen Yu’an looked up at him, but then she earnestly answered, “None, each had their own flaws. Perhaps that’s why my mother and the others said I haven’t found the right match.”
Fei Yanchen nodded in satisfaction, “Your judgment isn’t too bad.”
As they talked, Shen Yu’an wrapped thick cotton cloth around the ears of the medicine jar and then poured out the concoction she had brewed.
The pitch-black medicinal liquid was still emitting steam, its aroma challenging to describe. Yet, once it cooled a bit, Fei Yanchen tilted his head back and downed it all in one go.
Shen Yu’an settled comfortably in the room and inquired, “What dangerous task were you up to? Every time you return, you’re covered in such severe injuries.”
Fei Yanchen didn’t hide anything from her. He wiped his mouth and replied, “My father, mother, and younger sister are still in the capital. I’ve been planning…”
Shen Yu’an finished his sentence, “Planning how to save them, right?”
Fei Yanchen smiled at her and nodded.
Shen Yu’an casually remarked, “Do you have any other plans besides rescuing them?”
“Such as?”
Shen Yu’an didn’t directly answer his question. She relaxed in her seat and said, “You’ve been sought after for so long over there. If you return, your life will be at the mercy of those people. If you don’t go back, how can you bring someone out without raising suspicions?”
Fei Yanchen responded indirectly, “I’ve never cared about those controversies.”
They exchanged a brief glance before their gazes quickly averted.
Fei Yanchen, with a hint of probing, asked, “How do you know about the situation in the capital? You seem quite familiar with all this.”
As everything was different from what Fei Yanchen had dreamt, sometimes he even wondered if Shen Yu’an had experienced similar absurd dreams like his own.
However, this idea was puzzling too. Even if she had dreamt such things, why would she involve him in the Shen family’s affairs?
Without looking at him, Shen Yu’an chuckled, “I’m smart, you see. I figured it out.”
Perhaps amused by Shen Yu’an’s response, Fei Yanchen laughed, inadvertently pulling at his wound, which made him inhale sharply in pain.
Shen Yu’an quickly pressed him down, urging him to rest properly.
——
The matter of Shen Yu’an going to the capital was once again put on the agenda.
Before leaving, Fei Yanchen saw the things Shen Yu’an had written down and inquired about her plans.
Upon learning that they were looking for General Xiangnan, Fei Yanchen felt relieved.
General Xiangnan… he was the person who had supported Fei Yanchen in his dream, a man of trustworthy character.
