Before they could start eating, Fei Xi arrived at the Shen family. He smelled the delicious aroma in the air and walked in with a grin, saying, “Hey, I came in a hurry. Does Miss Shen mind sharing a meal with me?”
Shen Yu’an smiled and invited him in.
Yesterday, Fei Xi had already heard from Shen Yu’an about entrusting Sanlang to him for a while.
While enjoying the food on the table, Fei Xi said to Sanlang, “Mmm, this is delicious. Sanlang, you better eat more now because you won’t have such good food when you’re with me.”
Upon hearing Fei Xi’s words, Zhao Shi, who was eating at the table, asked with concern, “What? Sanlang won’t have enough to eat when he’s with you?”
“Oh dear, that won’t do. When you two leave later, I’ll pack some food for you,” Zhao Shi suggested.
Fei Xi quickly waved his hand and said, “No need, no need. It’s just that the food might not be as good when he’s with me, but he’ll still have enough to eat.”
Shen Yu’an chimed in, “Don’t take any food. Sanlang will eat whatever Fei Xi and his group eat. If he can’t endure a bit of hardship, then he will not survive the challenges to come. How else can Sanlang endure it?”
Zhao Shi chuckled awkwardly and said, “Well, in that case, he won’t take any.”
Grandma Shen looked at Fei Xi with concern and said, “Fei Xi, my boy, isn’t Ah’Chen’s bookstore making quite a bit of money? Why are you all not eating well?”
“Could it be that Ah’Chen is giving you too little monthly allowance?”
“If that’s the case, when I see that boy, I’ll have a good talk with him. Those of you working for him shouldn’t go hungry.”
Fei Xi was shocked and almost choked on his food.
He quickly defended, “No, that’s not it. Our master gives us a decent monthly allowance, but there are many expenses, and our master is also in a difficult situation. Please don’t misunderstand our master, Grandma.”
If the master found out that the Shen family misunderstood him because of his words, he would surely punish him severely.
Grandma Shen was still worried. If the people under Fei Yanchen couldn’t eat well, then perhaps Fei Yanchen himself wasn’t eating well either.
She suggested, “We still have some extra money at home. An’An, why don’t you write a letter to ask Ah’Chen if we can lend him some money in advance to help with the urgent expenses?”
Seeing the conversation taking a strange turn, and Fei Xi looking regretful, Shen Yu’an said, “Grandma, Ah’Chen’s finances are fine. You don’t need to worry.”
Fei Xi looked at Shen Yu’an gratefully and quickly finished his meal.

After the meal, Sanlang carried his bundle, and together with Shen Yu’an and Fei Xi, they left the Shen family house.
The three of them walked in the direction of the town, not taking the cart.
Sanlang asked, “Sister, where are we going?”
“To the town, to buy a few servants and see if there are any shops for rent or sale,” Shen Yu’an replied.
Then, she turned to Fei Xi and asked directly, “Does Fei Yanchen need money?”
Fei Xi had initially wanted to say that they didn’t need money, but seeing Shen Yu’an’s expression, he could only reply, “Our master is undertaking significant tasks, and the money is being spent rapidly. So, yes, we are in need of a little money. But please understand, Miss Shen, our master is not poor; it’s just that most of his wealth is locked away in the Border General’s Manor and cannot be accessed. Right now, that manor is occupied by others, and we don’t know how much of our property is left inside.”
Shen Yu’an inquired, “Who has occupied the manor?”
Fei Xi snorted and said, “It’s the Fourth Prince’s family. The current general stationed at the border is from their household. Although he doesn’t deserve the title of general, it’s all thanks to the Fourth Prince and Noble Consort Rong that he obtained his official position.”
