A General’s Mansion servant, dressed in brown attire, walked in and sternly asked, “Our young lady inviting you to diagnose her illness is your good fortune. Do you think you can refuse?”
Seeing him barge in so directly, the expressions on everyone’s faces turned grim.
The servant who had come to report the situation was pushed to the side by the incoming servant. They all watched Mr. Bai and the others with a proud look.
“Mr. Bai, come with me for a moment. Our mistress said that if you can cure our young lady, there will be rewards for you.”
The way he spoke made it seem as if Mr. Bai had declined to go because he thought the offered rewards were insufficient.
Hearing the General’s Mansion servant’s words, Bai Mingxi was so angry that he felt like steam was about to come out of his head. He slammed his hand on the table and pointed at the servant.
The servant flinched but then, after Bai Mingxi was restrained by Mr. Bai, he raised his chest proudly once again.
Bai Mingxi turned to Mr. Bai and, suppressing his anger, said, “This servant is too insolent.”
Indeed, the character of a servant often reflects that of their master, and this servant had shown it right from the start.
Bai Ji patted his arm and said, “No problem, I’ll go to the General’s Mansion.”
He was curious to see what kind of illness the Third Miss Qi had that required so many physicians.
He instructed one of the young servants at his side, “Fetch my medical kit.”
Seeing his willingness to cooperate, the General’s Mansion servant sneered under his breath in the direction of Bai Mingxi.
However, this was still the Bai household, and no matter how audacious he was pretending to be, he didn’t dare to go too far.
He said, “I’ll go back to the mansion first and report to Third Madam. Mr. Bai, please don’t keep our young lady waiting for too long.”
After saying that, without waiting for any further response from the Bai family, he turned and left.
Once his figure disappeared from their sight, Bai Mingxi turned his head and said angrily, “The Third Madam’s attitude is even loftier than the General himself.”
General Xiangnan had numerous responsibilities in the military and wasn’t often present at the mansion. However, he was highly respected by the people, known as a beloved general.
General Xiangnan, Qi Wenzhen, had a strict and decisive personality, while his second wife, Qi Wenqin, appeared to have a more gentle disposition.
On the other hand, the third household of the General’s Mansion was often arrogant and condescending, carrying themselves with an air of superiority. They conducted themselves in an ostentatious manner outside the mansion.
However, the Third Lord of the General’s Mansion had little personal ability and only held a minor military rank due to his association with the General.
The servant quickly brought Bai Ji’s medical kit, and as he prepared to leave, Bai Miaqing hesitated about whether to reveal the reason behind Third Miss Qi’s ‘illness.’
Just as she was about to speak, Shen Yu’an grasped her hand to stop her.
Stepping forward, Shen Yu’an said, “I will accompany Mr. Bai to the General’s Mansion.”
…
At the General’s Mansion, Shen Yu’an and Bai Ji arrived quickly at the front gate. There were already waiting servants there, and as they saw Bai Ji approaching, someone immediately led the two of them inside.
Upon entering the house, Shen Yu’an immediately heard a sharp cry.
“Are you all useless? Can’t even heal this minor injury.”
Immediately, there was the sound of shattering porcelain.
Shen Yu’an paused briefly, then continued to walk forward calmly.
With a turn in her steps, guided by the servant, Shen Yu’an arrived outside Qi Yiran’s room.
The servant stopped, bowed respectfully, and said, “Third Miss is inside. Please, go in on your own.”
As they got closer, the piercing screams from inside became even clearer, accompanied by the anguished voice of a woman.
“My precious daughter, endure a little longer. Please, don’t scratch anymore.”
Bai Ji approached and knocked on the door, announcing his presence.
The Third Lady was already quite anxious, and upon hearing the composed knocking, she said, “Hurry up and come in.”
Inside the room, there were other women from the General’s Mansion, including the General’s wife, Lady Wen, the Second Lady, Xin Rui, as well as Lady Wen’s two daughters.
Seeing Qi Yiran’s impolite behavior, Lady Wen reprimanded her softly and then said, “Dr. Bai, please come in quickly.”
Seeing Shen Yu’an enter alongside Bai Ji, Xin Rui exclaimed in surprise, “Miss Shen?”
Hearing this, Qi Yiran suddenly turned her head to the door and indeed saw Shen Yu’an’s figure.
“Ah! Ah! Ah!!!”
She let out a piercing scream and quickly pulled the blanket up to cover her neck.
But Shen Yu’an had already seen it. Qi Yiran’s entire neck had completely deteriorated, and there were signs of it slowly spreading towards her face.
When she raised her hand to pull up the blanket, Shen Yu’an noticed that her arm was covered in a rash, and the skin had been scratched open.
Several physicians stood by the bedside, looking at a loss. They had initially intended to dress Qi Yiran’s wounds to prevent her from scratching and causing further infection. However, Qi Yiran had been continuously crying, and Lady Qi couldn’t bear to force her precious daughter. The situation had reached a standstill.
The blanket Qi Yiran had pulled up didn’t completely cover her face, and she exposed a pair of fierce eyes, glaring at Shen Yu’an.
“You, this wretched woman, dare to come and mock me!”
Shen Yu’an looked at her coldly with a hint of a smile at the corner of her mouth and retorted, “It seems that Third Miss Qi is still lively and spirited, so her condition doesn’t seem to be too severe.”
Qi Yiran caught the mockery in Shen Yu’an’s words, and she sprang from the bed, lunging towards Shen Yu’an at the foot of the bed.
