Hua Nan, who had been frowning in deep thought all along, naturally lagged behind Hua Ling and Hua Mei.
Struggling to support Hua Mei, she said, “Did Hua Mei come out alone? She got injured, and no one knew. When I go back, I’ll definitely give them a good lesson for not taking care of Hua Mei.”
However, since Hua Mei was helped up by Hua Ling, she hadn’t said a word.
Hua Ling, who was full of anger, didn’t pay attention at all, thinking that Hua Mei’s silence was due to her being in too much pain.
Hua Mei leaned weakly on Hua Ling as they walked slowly.
When Hua Ling spoke, Hua Mei turned her head and met Hua Nan’s probing gaze.
She curved her lips slightly and smiled kindly at Hua Nan.
“I don’t have the strength, Hua Nan, come and help me as well,” Hua Mei requested.
Hua Nan silently walked to the other side of Hua Mei and assisted her, but he still maintained his vigilance towards her.
So, when Hua Mei showed any sign of movement, Hua Nan quickly reacted.
However, he and Hua Ling stood on both sides of Hua Mei.
Although he managed to evade Hua Mei’s surprise attack, Hua Ling was caught in Hua Mei’s scheme because she didn’t dodge in time.
A gu insect suddenly burrowed into Hua Ling’s arm, and she looked at Hua Mei in shock.
“Hua Mei, what are you doing?” Hua Ling asked.
Hua Mei just gave her a casual glance, completely ignoring how shocked she was.
When Hua Nan noticed something was amiss, he wanted to pull Hua Ling away first.
However, Hua Mei’s actions were faster, and she quickly maneuvered to position Hua Ling in front of her.
She drew a sharp dagger from her sleeve and held it against Hua Ling’s neck.
Watching Hua Nan, who seemed eager to move forward, Hua Mei warned, “Stop, take one more step, and I’ll kill her!”
Hua Nan, eyeing the blood dripping from Hua Ling’s neck, hesitated and stopped, not daring to make any sudden moves.
Hua Mei spoke again, “Step back!”
Although she held Hua Ling, half of her body’s weight still pressed down on Hua Ling’s back, and her weak appearance did not seem like an act.
Hua Nan slowly took a step back, keeping his eyes on the dagger in her hand, warning her not to make any sudden moves.
Meanwhile, Hua Mei, step by step, retreated in the direction of the carriage.
She opened the curtains to see what was inside while using Hua Ling as leverage, threatening Hua Nan not to make any reckless moves.
Inside the carriage were the items the Shen family had prepared for them when they left Longxian Village.
There were pastries, specialty snacks, clothing, and even some medicinal herbs prepared by the Shen family for their journey, just in case.
Hua Mei’s eyes lit up when she saw the abundance of supplies. She carefully sat down in one of the carriages.
Taking advantage of the moment when Hua Mei was getting into the carriage, Hua Ling lowered her gaze to the dagger tightly pressed against her neck, hoping to find an opportunity to escape.
However, she didn’t know what gu insect Hua Mei had just controlled to enter her body.
Hua Ling felt her brain slow and her reactions dulled.
Seeing Hua Ling’s intentions, Hua Mei, who was already inside the carriage, flashed a fierce look in her eyes, and the handle of the knife was about to wipe across Hua Ling’s neck.
The sluggish Hua Ling had no idea that her once-kind sister, Hua Mei, was trying to kill her.
Hua Nan immediately rushed towards the two of them, pulling Hua Ling away from Hua Mei’s grasp and kicking Hua Mei.
“Hiss!”
The dagger in Hua Mei’s hand was kicked away, and without hesitation, she turned the carriage and fled into the woods.
Hua Nan had initially planned to chase her, but as he took a step forward, he saw Hua Ling collapsing to the ground and had to turn back to catch her.
