Chapter 11: This Flash Marriage Speed, Even Lightning Legs Can’t Keep Up
As a matchmaker for so many years, Hongmei had brought together people of all ages—young and old. There was no age group she hadn’t dealt with.
Normally, after two people met, no matter how satisfied they were with each other or how urgent things seemed, they would still meet each other’s parents, pick an auspicious date, and then proceed to get married.
But these two had known each other for only half a day and had already gotten married. This flash marriage speed—truly, even lightning legs couldn’t catch up.
Hongmei was somewhat shocked, but when she looked at Lu Siting again, she vaguely understood.
She had introduced several men to Bai Wei and had, more or less, figured out Bai Wei’s preferences. This man did indeed fit all the criteria.
It was just that her resources were limited. Although she tried her best to pick good ones for Bai Wei, Bai Wei still wasn’t interested.
Now, seeing such a good one, she had simply gone ahead and married him.
“Sister Mei, the main thing is that the kids hit it off.” Shen Juan quickly stood up, took a red envelope out of her pocket, and said: “Look, they both seem pretty satisfied, and considering their age, getting married sooner isn’t a bad thing.”
“No matter what, we still have to thank you for all your help these past days. If it weren’t for you, my daughter wouldn’t have found someone so suitable.”
“And about that other matter—honestly, it’s our fault. My daughter’s pretty carefree and sometimes a bit impulsive. I hope you won’t take it to heart, Sister Mei. As for the young man you were originally going to introduce to her, I’ll have to trouble you to explain things to him.”
Shen Juan spoke sincerely. Hongmei accepted the red envelope, gave it a light squeeze, and her expression finally softened.
Holding Shen Juan’s hand, Hongmei sighed and said: “This whole thing’s such a mess. That young man thought he got stood up and was angry. He didn’t even go home. It wasn’t until the evening that he returned and told his parents. Then his parents came to find me, and that’s when I realized something had gone wrong. I rushed over here as fast as I could, but who knew—it was still a step too late.”
Shen Juan smiled warmly. “Ah, kids. Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be for them. Sister Mei, we just finished cooking—why don’t you sit down and eat with us?”
“Oh no, no need. We’ve already got food ready at home. You all eat. I’ll be going now. No need to walk me out.”
The two of them chatted as they walked out. Bai Yaotian also followed to see her off. With a gentle smile, Hongmei soon left.
Bai Wei sat down awkwardly, not knowing what to do. The gaze from across the table—Lu Siting’s—was impossible to ignore. She lifted her head and looked back innocently.
Honestly, she really hadn’t known what was going on. It was the fault of the matchmakers on both sides. If they had just said the other party’s name directly, this mix-up wouldn’t have happened.
Bai Wei thought back to what had happened at the restaurant.
The man who was supposed to go on a blind date with her was like all the others she had met before—none of them were her type.
But the man sitting at the next table, also on a blind date—Lu Siting—just happened to check every single box of what Bai Wei liked. With that kind of comparison, there was no way she would’ve been interested in the guy wearing black.
Even though it was a big mix-up…
The result had turned out well.
Bai Wei smiled, picked up her cup, and took a sip of water, her eyes darting around.
Lu Siting hadn’t noticed her little thoughts. He was thinking—if Bai Wei wasn’t his intended blind date, then where did the girl the matchmaker arranged for him go???
They had been eating for an hour or two. Even if the girl was late, she couldn’t have been this late.
The most likely scenario was—she never showed up at all.
Still confused, Lu Siting voiced his question, but Bai Wei looked even more baffled.
She had only just learned what her original blind date was supposed to look like. As for Lu Siting’s intended match—no one had seen her either.
But things had already reached this point. They had even registered their marriage. It was too late to say anything now.
All they could do was follow what they had originally agreed on: act as a married couple in front of others, and slowly develop their feelings in private.
The two of them looked at each other, and there was no need to say anything more.
Just then, Shen Juan locked the door and returned with Bai Yaotian to sit down again.
