Chapter 7 – It Must Be My Daughter Who Tricked That Young Man
Even if things didn’t work out after marriage, they could still get divorced. But if one failed to act fast, once a good man became someone else’s husband, all that was left was to admire him from afar.
“Hello, hello! Carrying all that must be tiring. Come, sit down!”
Shen Juan greeted the handsome young man with a warm smile and quickly ushered him in. She remembered her daughter had mentioned earlier—when she came home to fetch her household register—that this man was supposedly a soldier?
Soldiers went through strict, systematic training. They were law-abiding and certainly wouldn’t be bad people.
She had to admit, her daughter was really smart. A man this outstanding—if they didn’t hurry to marry him, what if some other young lady snatched him away?
Shen Juan enthusiastically welcomed Lu Siting. As she passed by Bai Wei, she even gave her a thumbs-up, her face full of praise.
“Sweetheart, go make the man a cup of tea!”
As soon as Shen Juan said that, Bai Wei went to pour water for Lu Siting.
Noticing that it was getting late, Shen Juan headed into the kitchen to prepare dinner. Just then, Bai Wei’s father, Bai Yaotian, returned home from work.
Bai Yaotian currently taught mathematics at a high school. At that time, being a teacher was considered a high-paying job—unlike decades later, when teachers were paid so little it was almost pitiful.
He earned a little over two hundred yuan a month, had paid summer and winter vacations, plus all sorts of benefits and allowances.
That salary was more than enough to support their family of three in comfort.
As soon as Bai Yaotian stepped inside, he immediately noticed Lu Siting sitting in the living room.
He glanced down at the keys in his hand, then looked again at the doorway. For a moment, he was confused—wasn’t this his house?
When did a young man appear in his home? Was he one of his daughter’s classmates from school?
Huh, and a good-looking one at that.
“Hello, Uncle.”
Lu Siting, noticing the similarity in facial features between Bai Yaotian and Bai Wei, immediately guessed that this was her father.
Bai Yaotian reflexively replied: “Ah, hello, hello.”
Hearing voices from the living room, Shen Juan rushed out to pull Bai Yaotian toward the kitchen.
“You’re back, finally! Come help me wash some vegetables.”
She tugged him into the kitchen and turned to look at her son-in-law. “Xiao Lu, you sit first.”
Bai Wei came out after washing fruit and placed it on the table in front of Lu Siting.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Shen Juan began explaining things to Bai Yaotian.
She herself hadn’t finished high school before entering factory work. After marrying Bai Yaotian, she quit her job when she got pregnant and became a full-time homemaker. She was a typical traditional woman—believing a woman’s role was to manage the household, not necessarily to be capable or earn money.
Fortunately, she had good luck. Bai Yaotian was reliable and not the kind of man who strayed. Her gamble had paid off, and their home life was happy and stable.
Over the years, she’d grown more articulate, and within just a few sentences, she explained the situation to her husband clearly.
Bai Yaotian’s eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Shen Juan.
He’d only been gone at work for the day—and now his daughter was married?
Wasn’t she the one who disliked blind dates the most?
And now she’d not only gone through with a blind date but also married the man the very same day they met?
Could it be that his daughter had been tricked by that man?!
Bai Yaotian hurried over to the kitchen door and peeked outside.
Tall—over 1.8 meters. Broad shoulders, long legs, and undeniably good-looking.
With looks like that, if he’d shown up in their old village, the single girls would’ve fought over him.
His wife had also said he was a soldier. Soldiers usually had solid character and lived in a structured environment where they had to do everything themselves.
Didn’t that make him much more capable than his own daughter, who was hopeless at housework?
Bai Yaotian immediately fell silent.
At first, he had thought his daughter had been the one deceived.
But now that he saw Lu Siting with his own eyes, he began to doubt.
If someone had really been tricked here—it was far more likely that his daughter was the one who had deceived this young man!
Was it illegal to deceive a soldier?
