Chapter 231: Unfavorable Departure

Manager Bai, looked a bit puzzled when he saw the headpiece. He picked up a hairpin and examined it, saying, “If I remember correctly, this headpiece was sold by our shop last month, and it seems it was sold for three hundred and fifty taels of silver. If the young lady wants to sell it back, it’s not worth that price anymore. I can only offer you two hundred and eighty taels of silver.”

A deduction of twenty percent seemed reasonable. Chen Feng nodded.

Manager Bai still felt somewhat regretful, having only made seventy taels of silver from this deal.

As soon as Manager Bai left, a languid voice was heard, “Do you still have those exceptional emeralds in your silver shop? I want those, as many as you have.”

Manager Bai spoke humbly, “Sir, I’m sorry, we have only one of those emeralds, which a customer brought in to sell. She sold one emerald and three rubies, and we turned them into jewelry, so we no longer have them in the store.”

The languid voice inquired again, “Do you know where the person who sold the gems is?”

Manager Bai responded, “I… I don’t know. After selling them, she left and never returned… um, we do have other fine jewelry in our shop. Please come upstairs, and I will show them to you.”

The footsteps gradually faded away.

One emerald and three rubies… could they be the same ones she had sold to this silver shop last year? Chen Feng’s heart tightened.

The gems she had sold weren’t exceptionally good in quality, they just had a better luster. How could this be? It dawned on her that perhaps those gems had absorbed some spiritual energy from being in the space for so many years, resulting in some changes. As she was preparing to leave, Wang, the guard, and a few others came in. Guard Wang quietly said, “Miss Chen, the person who came earlier is a noble from the capital.”

This made Chen Feng even more uneasy. She stood up and said, “Let’s forget about selling. Let’s hurry home.”

As they left, they saw several guards stationed outside the shop.

Chen Feng lowered her head. Just as they exited the shop, she came face to face with the last person she wanted to see, Chen Yuhui.

Truly an unlucky outing!

Chen Yuhui also spotted Chen Feng. She harbored an intense hatred for her, having dreamt numerous times of silencing her. That wretched girl dared to call herself ugly! Within the boundaries of Dingzhou Prefecture, she was determined to reclaim the humiliation she had suffered.

She hurried a couple of steps to block Chen Feng and said, “Well, if it isn’t Chen Feng? What a small world. Here we are again.”

Chen Feng, not wanting to engage, attempted to walk past to the right.

Chen Yuhui interpreted Chen Feng’s haste as fear and blocked her path, saying, “You wretched girl, why rush? You have a sharp tongue, don’t you? Do you think insulting me will go unnoticed? Today, I will tear apart your vile mouth.” She then turned to two women behind her and ordered, “Get her, tear her mouth apart.”

Before they could pounce, they were intercepted by Xue Dagui, Autumn, and Summer. Wang, the guard, cursed, “You fools, dare to lay a finger on Miss Chen, and I’ll break every one of your fingers.”

Enraged, Chen Yuhui was about to reveal her identity when the leader of the guards stationed at the door spoke.

He remarked, “Look at you, a grown man, meddling in a scuffle involving young ladies.” He then pointed to Xue Dagui and Chu Xiaoniu, saying, “You two gentlemen needn’t intervene. Let these young ladies fight it out. I’d like to see who comes out on top.”

As he finished, the other guards burst into laughter.

Wang, the guard, quickly apologized, “Sir, it’s not our young lady who wants to fight. It’s that girl who’s gone too far.”

Today, Chen Yuhui had only brought along two servant girls, without any guards. Seeing the grown men protecting Chen Feng had made her somewhat apprehensive, and the additional armed men at the door made her even more fearful. If a real fight were to break out, not only would she suffer losses, but her reputation would also be tarnished. She regretted focusing solely on Chen Feng and neglecting the fact that there were several men standing at the entrance of the shop.

Chen Feng attempted to bypass Chen Yuhui and leave. Then, a languid voice from behind said, “Stop. I’d like to see what kind of young lady dares to brawl in the street.”

Cursing Chen Yuhui in her heart, Chen Feng reluctantly stopped and didn’t turn around.

A young man in his twenties emerged from the shop. He was tall, fair-skinned, slightly slender, and dressed in luxurious attire, with a golden hairpin adorning his head.

After briefly assessing Chen Yuhui, he turned his attention to Chen Feng. He looked her up and down, a slight smile playing on his lips, and said, “In the north, there’s a beauty, aloof from the world… You are indeed a lovely young lady. You exude a gentle and virtuous aura, certainly not the type to engage in a brawl.” He then pointed at Chen Yuhui with his fan and said, “Did she start the trouble? If you say so, I’ll take care of her for you.”

His languid and cool tone was incredibly intimidating.
