So the author of this book was actually an official member of the Yuqi Duchy.

Yun Xi only looked at the application requirements for Baron, Viscount, and Earl. She didn’t bother with the ones for Marquis or Duke—those were pure fantasy to her.

Of course, even if she met the conditions, she wouldn’t apply for a title.

Once you joined a major faction, you had to sign a binding contract. It wasn’t like simply registering as a citizen. Becoming a noble of the Yuqi Duchy would make it extremely difficult to leave in the future.

She had joined the official Huaguo faction earlier only because it imposed almost no restrictions—there was no forced contract signing.

Even missions to protect settlements could be freely accepted or declined.

That freedom, however, only applied to regular members.

For those who received major resources and backing from the faction, contract signing was mandatory. No one would invest in someone who might betray them or leave at any time.

In her previous life, Yun Xi had no money, so she never joined any factions on the Divinefall Continent. In this life, she was even less likely to compromise.

Correspondingly, she didn’t need heavy support from the government, and there was no reason to sign strict contracts with Huaguo’s officials.

After that, Yun Xi flipped through the other ordinary books—particularly re-reading the ones about common Aberrants in the Bound Jade Plains.

On the Divinefall Continent, the air was saturated with spirit energy and Aberrant energy. Aberrants were creatures born from pollution by Aberrant energy.

In certain areas with dense Aberrant energy, these creatures could grow rapidly and uncontrollably.

Human cities were usually built in regions with the lowest levels of Aberrant energy, carefully selected by their ancestors, ensuring that prolonged exposure wouldn’t harm human life.

That’s also why the distances between cities and villages were extremely vast.

Still, no matter how diluted the energy, you must never eat food tainted by Aberrant energy.

Prolonged consumption of such food would cause permanent physical deterioration, and eventually, a person would either die or “evolve” into a Skin Aberrant.

The two most common types of Aberrants in the Bound Jade Plains were Animal Aberrants and Skin Aberrants.

Animal Aberrants: “Rat Aberrant,” “Cockroach Aberrant,” “Spider Aberrant,” etc.
Skin Aberrants: “Short-Eared Aberrant,” “Red-Browed Aberrant,” “Beautiful-Faced Aberrant,” etc.

Yun Xi carefully memorized the characteristics of each Skin Aberrant—just in case she encountered one in the wild and failed to recognize it.

After a long study session, she finally closed the last book and let out a slow breath.

With the second closed beta about to end, Yun Xi did a quick tidy-up and packed all the materials she had purchased into her storage pouch to take back to Blue Star.

The basic reference books, in particular, were now fully memorized, so she didn’t need to keep them.

These ordinary books weren’t protected by patent contracts, so Yun Xi planned to resell them to the Huaguo authorities.

Even though few people would spawn in the Bound Jade Plains due to the massive size of the Divinefall Continent, much of the information in the books—especially about Aberrant traits—was universally applicable.

Yun Xi wasn’t short on money, nor did she want to profit from the government. She intended to sell them back at the exact price she paid.

As for giving them away for free? Absolutely not.

Selling was a normal transaction; giving them away would make her seem a bit brainless—and might even raise suspicions.

Midnight, 12:00 AM — the beta test ended.

Upon returning to Blue Star, it was around noon.

Her phone buzzed non-stop with messages. After replying briefly to her friends, Yun Xi headed straight to the government building.

The moment she took out the knowledge books, they immediately caught the attention of the officials.

Chen Nana, who had previously invited Yun Xi, rushed over along with a middle-aged man who appeared to be a higher-up.

When they heard that Yun Xi had bought these books for just a few hundred silver coins, they were overjoyed.

Though the government had already sent some key players to purchase materials from the Divinefall Continent, knowledge-based books were ridiculously expensive, often costing dozens or even hundreds of gold coins.

Silver coins they could still manage, but gold coins were becoming a stretch.

The books Yun Xi brought back were written in unfamiliar characters, but after her brief explanation, Chen Nana and the official realized this was a complete set of basic books from a specific region of the Divinefall Continent.

This type of structured foreign script couldn’t possibly be fake.

“Miss Yun, thank you for bringing these books back. They’ll greatly help our understanding of the Divinefall Continent. We’ll purchase them at the price you set,” the middle-aged official said straightforwardly after verifying the books—not even trying to bargain.

Yun Xi wasn’t surprised. In her past life, she’d been to many regions, and books from the Bound Jade Plains were indeed among the cheapest.

The transaction went smoothly. After receiving the silver coins, Yun Xi didn’t linger—she left immediately.

The middle-aged official watched her figure fade into the distance, looking as if he wanted to say something but held back.

“Director, should we invite Miss Yun Xi to join the Special Operations Bureau? She must’ve had a stroke of luck in the game to afford so many silver coins,” Chen Nana asked.

“Not for now. She’s not from our internal system—just a college student who was invited a few days ago.
We still don’t fully understand this game’s nature. Now that it’s gone offline again, let’s wait until we know more,” the leader replied, rubbing his temples.

Chen Nana frowned slightly.

Lately, they had been inviting many certified Spellcasters and certified Warriors to join the government.

She could understand the leader’s concerns—after all, the number of applicants was overwhelming, and their moral standards varied. If someone was to be admitted to the Special Operations Bureau and given high-level resource support, they had to be thoroughly vetted.

But she still felt Yun Xi definitely met the qualifications.

Even putting aside her strength, her integrity was unquestionable. Despite the books being so valuable, she hadn’t inflated the price at all.

“Still, that doesn’t stop you from maintaining good relations with her.
If possible, once the game comes back online, have her help with some procurement tasks.
Make sure she’s fairly compensated,” the leader added after a moment’s thought.

“Understood,” Chen Nana nodded.

After taking a cab home, Yun Xi was surprised to find someone waiting outside her door.

It was Yun Linlin.

“Yun Xi, where’ve you been? I thought you’d be home once the game server shut down.”

“I’m here to fulfill our contract!” Yun Linlin said cheerfully, waving the contract scroll in her hand.

Yun Xi: …Was that really so urgent?

Really interesting story. I like the world-building. I do prefer FLs that are a bit more cunning, but I do appreciate that she’s not completely OP too. Thanks for translating!

I hope she’s not stupid about this. After going back 10 years, she should have a good understanding of human nature, especially with her relatives. Her “sis” obviously knows more than she’s letting on since she knew about contracts, etc when she acted like she hadn’t registered in the 1st beta. I highly doubt FL mentioned that during the family meeting AND if this is her 1st time registering, then she must have been incredibly lucky to buy a contract to begin with. The whole “resurrection” talisman being so readily available this timeline, should make her even more cautious.

I understand she doesn’t want to be pestered. Hopefully, if she agree, then she just gives her the basic water spell and nothing else.
