Chapter 18: Hiring Sun Dahai

The next morning, Ou Zichen went to the company and immediately instructed Su Jianfeng to arrange Sun Dahai’s work and housing.

Su Jianfeng was very efficient, and soon, he found the factory where Sun Dahai worked.

“Sun Dahai, the manager is looking for you!” a colleague came over to deliver the message.

“Okay… I’ll go right away!”

Sun Dahai went to the manager’s office and knocked on the door.

“Come in!” the manager’s voice came from inside.

Sun Dahai opened the door and respectfully said: “Manager, you were looking for me?”

“Ah… Dahai, it’s like this. Starting tomorrow, you don’t have to come to work anymore. I’ll have the finance department settle your wages for this month.”

Sun Dahai was immediately panicked and anxiously asked: “Manager, did I do something wrong? Please tell me, I’ll definitely fix it. You can deduct my wages or anything, but please don’t fire me…”

His whole family depended on this job for a living, and his son was still in the hospital, needing a lot of money for treatment. He absolutely couldn’t afford to lose his job.

The manager was well aware of Sun Dahai’s family situation. Sun Dahai was known for his serious work ethic in the factory, a fact everyone in the factory knew. In fact, the manager greatly admired Sun Dahai’s work attitude and naturally wanted to keep him, but now it seemed impossible to retain him.

Seeing how anxious Sun Dahai was, the manager walked over to him, patted his shoulder, and said: “Dahai, don’t worry!”

Looking at Su Jianfeng, he added: “Let Executive Assistant Su explain it to you. I’ll leave you two alone to talk, and I’ll step out for now.”

After the manager left, Su Jianfeng stepped forward, handed Sun Dahai a business card, and said: “Hello, I’m Ou Corporation’s executive assistant. My name is Su Jianfeng.”

Sun Dahai took the business card and looked at it, nervously asking: “Hello, may I ask what this is about?”

Su Jianfeng didn’t beat around the bush and directly explained: “Our President Ou greatly appreciates your work abilities and would like to officially invite you to join Ou Corporation!”

Sun Dahai was stunned, picking up the business card again and looking at it carefully. It read: Special Administrative Assistant to the President of Ou Corporation.

Seeing the words “Ou Corporation.” Sun Dahai was shocked. He knew Ou Corporation—Bincheng’s largest company and a leading enterprise in the country. Everyone knew about it.

“Su… Assistant Su, is this the Ou Corporation from Bincheng, the most powerful one?” Sun Dahai asked in disbelief.

Su Jianfeng nodded proudly, as the assistant to the president of Ou Corporation. “Yes, that’s the one.”

“Assistant Su, are you sure you have the right person? I don’t know the president of Ou Corporation. How could he possibly invite me to work for his company?” Sun Dahai couldn’t believe it. Not only had he never met Ou Zichen, but he also felt that someone of that stature was beyond his reach, someone he would never get to meet in his life.

“Are you Sun Dahai?” Su Jianfeng asked.

“Yes, I am Sun Dahai!” Sun Dahai replied.

“That’s right. You don’t need to doubt or overthink it. Since our president managed to find you, it’s clear that someone recommended you to us. I’ve also spoken with your manager here, and I’ve heard that your work has a great reputation. Everyone speaks highly of you. So, there’s no need to doubt your abilities. Just come to Ou Corporation and work hard. Our president will definitely not treat you unfairly!”

When Ou Zichen had instructed him to take care of this matter in the morning, he still couldn’t figure out why Ou Zichen would suddenly choose someone like Sun Dahai to become the factory manager at a food plant. Managing such a large factory was not an easy task. However, he followed Ou Zichen’s instructions as given; after all, he had no authority to question the president’s decisions.

Upon arriving at the factory where Sun Dahai worked, Su Jianfeng specifically consulted with the manager to learn more about Sun Dahai’s work performance. To his surprise, the manager praised Sun Dahai highly, saying that he was honest and sincere, diligent and responsible, and always worked meticulously. He was considered one of the factory’s best employees. The only reason the manager was willing to let Sun Dahai leave was because they feared offending Ou Corporation, a large enterprise.

“But… but I’m just a simple, rough man who only knows how to do physical labor. What can I do at Ou Corporation?” Sun Dahai expressed his concerns.

Sun Dahai came from a poor rural family that couldn’t afford to send him to school, so after graduating from junior high, he went to work. Lacking a diploma and formal education, he could only take on manual labor jobs. Fortunately, he was a very diligent person who wasn’t afraid of hard work and always gave his best at whatever he did.

For a large enterprise like Ou Corporation, he, with no diploma and no education, really had no idea what he could contribute!

“Our president’s intention is for you to manage one of the food factories under the corporation and become the factory manager!” 

Factory manager? As soon as Sun Dahai heard this, he immediately refused. He felt unworthy of holding such a high position.

“No, no, how could I be a factory manager? I have no diploma, and I have no management experience. I definitely wouldn’t be able to do a good job!”

Sun Dahai was just that kind of honest person. When others thought highly of him, he was deeply grateful. However, he knew his own limitations, and he would never pretend to be something he wasn’t. If he took someone else’s salary, he knew he had to be responsible for it.

“You haven’t even tried, so how do you know you can’t do it? I’ve looked at your profile, and I know you graduated from junior high. Although you don’t have fancy diplomas, you have many advantages. You work harder and more seriously than others. This is something that many highly educated people can’t compare with. You say you have no management experience, but that’s not a problem. In the beginning, we’ll have professional staff to teach and guide you. The key question now is whether you’re willing to work hard and learn seriously for this job.”

Before coming today, Ou Zichen had given strict orders: no matter what method he used, he had to make Sun Dahai sign the employment contract.

And so, Su Jianfeng was now trying to persuade Sun Dahai with all his might!

“I will definitely work seriously, but…”

“Don’t say ‘but’. As long as you’re willing to put in the effort, everything will be possible!”

Su Jianfeng pulled out the employment contract and a pen, placing them in front of Sun Dahai. Seizing the moment when Sun Dahai seemed confused, he quickly pushed the contract for him to sign so he could report back.

“This is the employment contract. Hurry up and sign it. We believe you can do this job. Don’t disappoint the person who recommended you to the president…”

Sun Dahai took the contract and the pen, and soon his thoughts turned to Yang Xiuhua and his son, Sun Huayang. Over the years, his wife and son had suffered alongside him, and he hadn’t been able to give them a better life—it was his own inadequacy.

Now, there was such a good job opportunity in front of him. Why not seize it? Others were willing to give him a chance, so what was there to think about? There’s nothing in the world that’s truly difficult; only those who aren’t willing to try are the ones who fail. He believed that as long as he worked hard enough, there was nothing he couldn’t achieve.

Sun Dahai thought for a while, then decided that for the future of his wife and son, he would give it his all. He signed his name on the contract and handed it back to Su Jianfeng.
