Chapter 21: Thanking Daddy

Yang Xiuhua: “Yingbao, next time when you have free time, come over to Auntie’s place to play. Auntie will make your favorite braised pork for you!”

Zhao Jiaying: “Okay! Goodbye, Auntie!”

Yang Xiuhua: “Goodbye!”

After hanging up the video call, Yang Xiuhua saw Sun Dahai staring at his phone in a daze. She nudged him and asked: “What’s wrong? Why are you in a daze?”

Sun Dahai showed her the information he had just found on his phone and said: “This is Yingbao’s daddy, and also the president of our group!”

Since Sun Dahai was now an employee of Ou Corporation, it was natural for him to refer to Ou Corporation as “our group.”

“So, you’re saying this job and house arrangement are all because of Yingbao? Her daddy arranged it specifically for you!”

Sun Dahai nodded. “Yes, it’s all thanks to Yingbao!”

Yang Xiuhua felt an indescribable gratitude. She had clearly rejected Lin Zhenzhu’s check yesterday, and yet today, they had helped in another way.

“Da Hai, you must work hard in the future. You can never embarrass Yingbao, and you must never let President Ou down for his kindness to our family!”

“Mm! I understand. I will work hard and never betray Yingbao and President Ou’s trust!”

For the couple, the best way to repay them was to work hard and manage the food factory that Ou Zichen had entrusted to them with great care.

After Zhao Jiaying ended the video call, she didn’t continue studying. Instead, she happily ran downstairs to find Lin Zhenzhu. She wanted to share the good news about Aunt Xiuhua moving to her new house and also thank her.

However, after going downstairs and searching the entire living room, she couldn’t find any trace of Lin Zhenzhu.

The maid, Xiaolan, was cleaning, and when she saw Zhao Jiaying looking around, she asked: “Yingbao Young Miss, what are you looking for?”

“I’m looking for my Great-grandma. Xiaolan Big Sister, have you seen my Great-grandma?”

“Madam is in the greenhouse trimming flowers and plants. You can go look for her there!”

“Okay, thank you, Xiaolan Big Sister!”

Zhao Jiaying said this and then ran out of the villa, heading toward the greenhouse.

The greenhouse was located on the east side of the villa, a white glass room that stood out clearly. As soon as Zhao Jiaying stepped outside the villa, she saw it and walked along the main path toward it.

Entering the greenhouse, she saw Lin Zhenzhu watering a plant. The plant had long, slender green leaves with a few bright orange-red flowers blooming in the middle, making it very beautiful.

Zhao Jiaying had never seen such a flower before, so she was curious and asked: “Great-grandma, what flower is this? It’s so beautiful!”

Hearing her voice, Lin Zhenzhu looked up at Zhao Jiaying, then continued watering the plant. While doing so, she said: “This is a Clivia, my favorite flower!”

“Why do you like it, Great-grandma?”

“Because it symbolizes strength and resilience. It can also be used to describe a person’s upright and unyielding spirit.”

Rather than saying she liked this particular flower, it was more accurate to say she appreciated the meaning behind it.

Zhao Jiaying nodded as if she understood, but to be honest, she hadn’t fully grasped what Lin Zhenzhu meant. However, that wasn’t the point. She hadn’t come to see the flowers; she was here to talk to her about something.

“Great-grandma, I just had a video call with Aunt Xiuhua. She told me that Uncle Dahai has found a great job, and they moved today to a big, beautiful house. I know this is because of your help, so I want to thank you. Thank you, Great-grandma, for making Aunt Xiuhua and Uncle Dahai’s life better!”

“About this, you should thank your daddy. It was your daddy who arranged everything. Great-grandma didn’t do anything!”

Zhao Jiaying was a bit confused! Had she thanked the wrong person? But then, she realized something—no, it wasn’t right. Daddy didn’t know about Aunt Xiuhua’s situation; only Great-grandma knew. So, it must have been Great-grandma who told Daddy, and that’s why he decided to help them.

So, she hadn’t thanked the wrong person. Great-grandma was definitely involved in helping, too.

“Of course, I should thank Daddy, but I also need to thank Great-grandma. If you hadn’t told Daddy about Aunt Xiuhua’s situation, Daddy wouldn’t have helped them. So, the one I should thank the most is still you, Great-grandma!”

“Alright, alright… Yingbao is right!”

Her precious little great-granddaughter had understood the logic of the situation so well. A simple “thank you” from her didn’t seem like a big deal.

Once Lin Zhenzhu finished watering the flowers, she set down the watering can and said to Zhao Jiaying: “Yingbao, let’s go back and have dinner!”

“Okay!”

The two of them, hand in hand, walked back to the villa, where the servants had already prepared lunch.

By around six o’clock in the evening, Ou Zichen and Ou Zilong returned home from work. As soon as they stepped through the villa door, Zhao Jiaying ran over and sweetly called out to him: “Daddy, you’re home!”

Her timing was so perfect, showing that she had been waiting for him for a while.

Ou Zichen, as always, picked her up and gently asked: “Were you good at home today?”

“Yingbao was very good at home! In the morning, I finished learning the poem ‘Yongliu’ from my Chinese book. Let me recite it for you, Daddy…”

When it came to her reading and memorization skills, Zhao Jiaying was extremely proud and had no modesty about it!

But regarding this point, Ou Zichen had some disagreements, so he earnestly taught her: “Yingbao, whether it’s about being a person or doing things, you must learn to be humble. You cannot be arrogant. Arrogance won’t make you progress; it will only make you regress. Do you understand?”

Zhao Jiaying actually didn’t agree with Ou Zichen’s words. She believed that talented people should show their abilities and let everyone know. However, she didn’t dare to disregard Ou Zichen’s words, fearing that it would upset him and make him dislike her. So, she could only helplessly nod and unwillingly say: “Daddy, I understand!”

In her eagerness to show her talents, she almost forgot the main business at hand, which was to thank Aunt Xiu Hua.

After getting off the ground, Zhao Jiaying deeply bowed to Ou Zichen, her voice soft and sweet as she said: “Daddy, thank you. Thank you for arranging a good job for Uncle Dahai, and thank you for finding them a big house to live in! From now on, Aunt Xiu Hua and Uncle Dahai will never have to live a hard life again. Yingbao is really very happy!”

After hearing Lin Zhenzhu speak about Zhao Jiaying’s family situation the previous night, Ou Zichen knew that Zhao Jiaying had received a lot of care from them. Now that Zhao Jiaying was able to be grateful and think about their family, this made Ou Zichen feel very pleased. It meant his help hadn’t been in vain.

“Yingbao, about this matter, Daddy must make something clear. Although Daddy gave Sun Dahai this job opportunity because of you, if he doesn’t work hard and only tries to rely on your face to slack off in the factory, then Daddy will not show mercy just because of you. I’ll still fire him. Don’t blame Daddy for being heartless when the time comes!”

“Daddy, don’t worry! Uncle Dahai will not disappoint you, I believe in him!”

Ou Zichen was a businessman. His company, Ou Corporation, although wealthy, certainly didn’t employ idle people. Today, he could give Sun Dahai a chance because of Zhao Jiaying’s face.

Although Sun Dahai had no qualifications or experience, Ou Zichen didn’t care about that. He could have someone teach him. What he cared about was whether Sun Dahai had ambition and was willing to learn.

As long as he worked hard and was dedicated, Ou Zichen believed there was nothing he couldn’t learn. He hoped that Sun Dahai would live up to Zhao Jiaying’s trust and not disappoint him!
