Chapter 71: The Truth

Cai’er didn’t know what Lin Zhenzhu was up to. Her heart began to feel uneasy, and she subconsciously tightened her grip on Ou Zilong’s hand.

Ou Zilong noticed that Cai’er seemed uncomfortable and was even sweating slightly. He asked: “Cai’er, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

“No… nothing. I just feel a little stuffy in the bedroom.” she replied, trying to hide her nervousness.

Lin Zhenzhu snorted coldly. “I think it’s guilt you’re feeling. I’ve already given you a chance, and you didn’t take it. Don’t blame me later…”

This time, Cai’er didn’t argue, because she couldn’t find a reason to refute. She silently prayed that Lin Zhenzhu wouldn’t bring out any real evidence. If she did, it would be the end for her.

Ou Zilong also noticed something was off with Cai’er. He had wanted to ask her what was going on, but he didn’t have the chance. Ou Zichen had already returned.

He was holding a laptop in his hands.

“Grandma, should we play it now?”

“Yes, play it. Let your foolish little brother see what kind of girlfriend he’s actually dating.”

Ou Zichen quickly clicked on a document, and a video appeared on the computer screen.

The first video was taken in the kitchen. It showed Cai’er from earlier in the day when she was cooking. All her ugly behavior was captured, including the insulting words she had said about Lin Zhenzhu.

The second video was from the flower room. The segment where Cai’er was planting flowers was ignored because there was nothing noteworthy there. The video started from the moment Lin Zhenzhu entered. Their entire conversation was recorded, including the moment when Lin Zhenzhu collapsed from anger. Not only did Cai’er fail to help her, but she even escalated things, clearly trying to anger Lin Zhenzhu to the point of causing her harm. If it hadn’t been for Ou Zilong and Zhao Jiaying arriving just in time, Lin Zhenzhu might have already been gone.

After watching these two revealing videos, Cai’er’s face turned ashen.

How could this happen? How could it have been recorded?

She had clearly seen that there were no cameras there, which was why she had spoken so recklessly. She never expected…

It wasn’t until this moment that she realized she had been set up by Lin Zhenzhu.

The kitchen and flower room were originally not equipped with cameras. It was Lin Zhenzhu who had arranged for hidden cameras to be installed at the last minute. Only the installers knew their locations; ordinary people would never have been able to spot them.

Lin Zhenzhu had done this to test Cai’er’s character. If Cai’er’s character was decent, and if Ou Zilong truly liked her, Lin Zhenzhu would have accepted her. 

But she never expected it to turn out like this. Upon testing, she was shocked to find that Cai’er was such a wicked woman. If this kind of woman were allowed into the Ou family, there would be no peace in the house in the future.

Thankfully, Lin Zhenzhu had been cautious and tested her. Otherwise, it would have been too late to regret it later. Although this test had almost cost her life, at least she had helped Ou Zilong see Cai’er’s true colors, which made it all worthwhile.

After watching the videos, Ou Zilong was stunned, unable to believe his eyes. He stared at Cai’er in disbelief. Was this really the gentle and kind Cai’er he knew?

Had he been so foolish? Or had Cai’er been acting so well?

He had always believed that Cai’er was a kind-hearted person. There was that one time when he went with her to a welfare center to visit the children. Cai’er had been extremely kind to them and even bought them many essential supplies.

Now, it seemed that all of that had been an act, carefully performed in front of him to gain his favor.

Ou Zilong’s face remained expressionless as he asked in a low, tense voice: “What do you have to say now? Do you still think you’re innocent?”

Cai’er grabbed Ou Zilong’s hand, panicking. “Zilong, please let me explain, I…”

Ou Zilong yanked his hand away from hers in anger. “Fine, I’ll give you the chance to explain. Now, explain yourself clearly.”

“I… I know I was wrong. I just love you too much, I’m too afraid of losing you. I was afraid Grandma would oppose us being together, so I…”

Ou Zilong interrupted: “So you wanted my grandmother to die, right?”

Cai’er knew that Ou Zilong was very angry, but she still moved forward and grabbed his arm, crying with tears staining her face. “Zilong, I truly know I was wrong. I was just so scared of losing you. I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t mean to. Please believe me, just this once. Can you forgive me?”

Ou Zilong pushed her hand away again, this time with more force. Cai’er was thrown to the ground.

He shouted angrily: “Ye Zhicao, do you really think I’m a fool, that you think I’m so easy to deceive? Do you think that after everything you’ve said, I’ll still believe you?”

Cai’er’s real name was Ye Zhicao, but everyone called her Cai’er.

Cai’er collapsed on the ground, crying without being able to say a word.

Her true nature had always been this way. Saying that she loved Ou Zilong and was afraid of losing him was just an excuse she used for her own wrongdoings.

In reality, she didn’t love Ou Zilong at all. What she truly loved was Ou Zilong’s identity as the second young master of the Ou family.

If she truly loved someone, how could she not understand the principle of loving the person and everything about them? In the end, she was just greedy for vanity.

Ou Zichen spoke directly: “Grandmother, I think we should call the police about this.”

Cai’er’s actions were no different from attempted murder. If the police were called, it would not only ruin her reputation but also land her in prison without a doubt.

Ou Zichen had never been a soft-hearted person. This despicable woman had almost caused them to lose their beloved grandmother. If he didn’t teach her a lesson, she might think she could get away with anything.

As soon as Cai’er heard that they would call the police and arrest her, she panicked. She couldn’t go to prison, or her life would be over.

She crawled to Lin Zhenzhu’s bedside, kneeling, and begged for forgiveness. “Grandmother, I’m sorry, I know I was wrong. Please, let me go, I promise I’ll never do it again…”

This detestable woman still thought there could be a future?

Cai’er kept kowtowing and begging for forgiveness in front of Lin Zhenzhu, but Lin Zhenzhu remained unmoved. Eventually, Cai’er began slapping her own face, crying out: “Grandmother, I’m wrong. Please, let me go…”

Ou Zichen, concerned that Zhao Jiaying might be frightened, quickly covered her eyes to shield her from the sight.

Ou Zilong looked at Cai’er, humiliated and repulsed by the sight of her begging. He felt deep disgust. He had been blind to have ever been attracted to such a vile and poisonous woman.

He now felt extremely lucky that nothing had ever happened between them. If she had become pregnant with his child, getting rid of her would have been nearly impossible.

Not long after he had started seeing Cai’er, she had tried to tempt him into sleeping with her. Fortunately, he had kept his composure at the time and insisted on saving that for their wedding night. That was why nothing had happened between them.

It seemed that Ou Zilong was quite wise after all.
