Chapter 8: Auntie’s Worries
Lin Zhenzhu suddenly realized that Zhao Jiaying was just a little child who needed a high chair to eat properly. She had overlooked this detail.
“Zilong, after dinner, have the Mother & Baby Store send over a high chair for Yingbao.”
It needed to be delivered tonight so that it would be ready for breakfast tomorrow. Otherwise, Yingbao would still struggle to reach the table in the morning.
“Alright, Grandma, I’ll arrange for them to send it over right away!”
Ou Zichen continued holding Zhao Jiaying in his arms while picking up food for her. Yingbao ate happily, thoroughly enjoying herself.
Watching this scene, Lin Zhenzhu and Ou Zilong felt a deep warmth in their hearts. They never expected that Ou Zichen had such a gentle and caring side.
After a while, Zhao Jiaying was full. She turned to Ou Zichen and said: “Daddy, I’m full now. You’ve been holding me the whole time and haven’t eaten yet. You should hurry and eat too!”
Hearing this, Ou Zichen put her down and returned to his seat to eat.
Zhao Jiaying glanced over at Tangyuan and saw that it had finished eating as well. She picked up its bowl and ran toward the kitchen.
Aunt Liu knew exactly what she was up to and quickly stopped her. “Little Young Miss, from now on, just leave the dishwashing to Grandma Liu!”
However, Zhao Jiaying replied in her soft, childish voice: “Grandma Liu, Yingbao can wash it by herself. I just need a chair to stand on, or else I can’t reach!”
Lin Zhenzhu immediately became nervous upon hearing this. What if she fell off the chair while trying to wash the bowl?
She spoke to her in a serious yet gentle tone: “Yingbao, from now on, let Grandma Liu and the others handle these things. You’re still too young to be climbing on chairs to wash dishes. If you accidentally fall and get hurt, Great-grandma would feel so sad. You don’t want Great-grandma to be sad, do you?”
Zhao Jiaying walked up to Lin Zhenzhu, looking at her with her big, watery eyes. In her soft, sweet voice, she said: “No, I don’t want Great-grandma to be sad. I just want Great-grandma to be happy every day!”
What a thoughtful and considerate great-granddaughter!
“So, let them handle these tasks, okay? They’ll make sure to wash Tangyuan’s bowl until it’s sparkling clean. If you really want to learn how to wash dishes, wait until you’re a little older, and then Grandma Liu and the others can teach you. How does that sound?”
Lin Yuqin never instilled the idea of being spoiled or dependent on others in Zhao Jiaying. If Yingbao wanted to learn or do something, she would never oppose it. In her eyes, it wasn’t shameful for a wealthy young lady to do housework.
On the contrary, she looked down on people who didn’t know how to do anything and refused to learn or contribute.
Yes, the Ou family was incredibly wealthy. They could easily spoil Zhao Jiaying to the point of carrying her around every day if they wished. But what was the difference between that and raising someone useless? That wasn’t the kind of upbringing she wanted for Zhao Jiaying, and it certainly wasn’t what Zhao Jiaying wanted for herself.
After thinking for a moment, Zhao Jiaying realized that she shouldn’t make her elders worry. Since they all believed she was still too young for these tasks, she decided she would just wait until she grew a little older to learn!
She handed the bowl of Tangyuan back to Aunt Liu and said politely: “Thank you, Grandma Liu. I’ll have to trouble you from now on!”
After speaking, she turned to Tangyuan and said: “Tangyuan, from now on, Grandma Liu will help you wash your bowls. You have to thank her too!”
“Woof woof…” Tangyuan barked twice at Aunt Liu, expressing gratitude.
“What a well-mannered child, even teaching the dog so well! Madam is truly blessed to have such a great-grandson!” These words were directed at Lin Zhenzhu.
“Yes, indeed. It’s not only my blessing but also a blessing for our entire Ou family!”
Zhao Jiaying looked at everyone’s smiling faces and couldn’t help but smile sweetly herself. Seeing everyone happy made Yingbao happy as well!
After dinner, Lin Zhenzhu consulted Zhao Jiaying about her sleeping arrangements—whether she wanted to share a room with her or have a room of her own.
Lin Zhenzhu originally intended for Yingbao to sleep with her since it was her first time staying overnight in an unfamiliar environment. She was worried that Yingbao might be scared at night.
“Great-grandma, I want to have my own room. Yingbao is not a three-year-old child anymore and can sleep alone!”
She was still two months away from turning four, so how was she not a three-year-old anymore?
Seeing her insist on sleeping alone, Lin Zhenzhu did not force her. However, since there was no children’s room in the house, she temporarily arranged for her to stay in a guest room on the second floor. Once the children’s room was properly decorated, she would move there.
Even though it was just a guest room, it was still very luxurious and grand, with all the necessary furniture, a TV, and a bathroom. The only thing Zhao Jiaying found slightly unsatisfactory was the room’s cool-toned decor, which she didn’t particularly like. She preferred warm and festive colors, as they made her feel more comfortable.
However, she did not complain too much because she would be moving to the children’s room once it was ready. For now, she would just make do with this room.
Back in the bedroom, Zhao Jiaying took out her iPad and sent a video call request to Auntie Yang Xiuhua. She had not gone home the entire day, and Auntie and Uncle Dahai were probably worried sick. The video call connected quickly!
“Yingbao, where did you go? Do you know that Auntie and Uncle Dahai have been looking for you all day? We thought you had been kidnapped and were about to call the police!”
A worried and anxious voice came from the other end. It was clear that Yang Xiuhua was deeply concerned.
“Auntie, I’m sorry. It was my fault for making you worry! But don’t worry, I wasn’t kidnapped. I just went to find my Daddy. Auntie, let me tell you something—I found my biological Daddy! I’m at his house right now. Besides Daddy, there’s also Second Uncle and Great-grandma. They are all very nice to Yingbao!”
Yang Xiuhua had no idea who Zhao Jiaying’s biological father was because Zhao Yunxi had never mentioned it. Now, hearing Zhao Jiaying suddenly claim that she had found her biological father, Yang Xiuhua was honestly skeptical. She wasn’t afraid of anything—except the possibility that Yingbao had been deceived.
Before Zhao Yunxi went abroad, she had repeatedly reminded Yang Xiuhua to take good care of Zhao Jiaying. If she was now tricked and taken away, how could she possibly find another Yingbao to return to Zhao Yunxi when she came back?
“Yingbao, were you deceived? Your Mommy never told you who your Daddy was. How do you know this person is really your Daddy? Tell Auntie where you are right now! Uncle Dahai and I will come and pick you up immediately!”
“Auntie, Yingbao is not lying to you. Everything I said is true. If you don’t believe me, I can send you the location, and you can come over tomorrow to see for yourself. It’s too late tonight, so don’t come now!”
It was already late at night, and Zhao Jiaying was actually more worried about them traveling so far at this hour.
“Yingbao, are you really telling the truth? You really found your Daddy?”
To be honest, Yang Xiuhua still found it hard to believe.
“Of course, Auntie! When has Yingbao ever lied to you?”
That was true. In Yang Xiuhua’s eyes, Zhao Jiaying was a good child who had never told a lie and definitely would not start now.
