Chapter 9: The Little Lucky Star  

“Are you sure you’re safe where you are now?”  

Even if he was her biological father, who could guarantee that he was a good person? It was better to be cautious.  

“Auntie, you still don’t believe Yingbao? Yingbao is a high-IQ baby! Bad people wouldn’t be able to trick Yingbao. Don’t worry!”  

That was true. She had never seen a child as smart as Yingbao. If a bad person ever encountered her, they would probably turn around and leave. This little girl had so many clever tricks up her sleeve that she could easily outwit anyone.  

Still, she had to see it with her own eyes to be completely at ease!  

“Alright then, send me the location. Auntie will come over first thing in the morning. Otherwise, I won’t be able to stop worrying!”  

“Okay!”  

After ending the video call, Zhao Jiaying quickly sent over the location. Then, she turned to Tangyuan and said: “Tangyuan, come on, let’s go take a bath!”  

Zhao Jiaying was a very clean person. She bathed Tangyuan every single day and always made sure he smelled fresh. Because of this, Tangyuan was always spotless, without a trace of that typical dog smell!  

Meanwhile, Yang Xiuhua received the location from Zhao Jiaying and opened it to take a look. However, she had no recognition of the address and had no idea what kind of place it was.  

Just then, her husband, Sun Dahai, came home. As soon as he entered, he asked anxiously: “Well? Has Yingbao come back yet?”  

Yang Xiuhua didn’t respond immediately. She just shook her head, deep in thought.  

Seeing this, Sun Dahai became even more anxious. “This isn’t right! We have to report this to the police. Yingbao has been missing for almost a whole day!”  

“No need! I already know where Yingbao is.”  

“Where?”  

Yang Xiuhua pointed at the location on her phone and said: “Yingbao is here…”  

Sun Dahai looked at the address on the screen but had no idea where it was. A big question mark hung over his head.  

“Where is this place? And why is Yingbao there?”  

“Yingbao said this is where her Daddy lives. She disappeared today because she went to find her Daddy!”  

Find her Daddy? Now, Sun Dahai was even more confused, with the same reaction as Yang Xiuhua—completely baffled!

“Could it be that Yingbao was tricked by bad people?”

“No, Yingbao said she really found her biological Daddy and even sent me the location. She knew we would be worried, so she asked me to go check tomorrow!”

As long as she wasn’t deceived, that was good. Knowing that Yingbao had gone missing, Sun Dahai had specially taken half a day off work to look for her, afraid that she had been kidnapped. Now that he knew she was safe, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“Then you must go check tomorrow and confirm that Yingbao is really fine. Otherwise, we won’t be able to explain it to Yunxi in the future! I won’t go with you, though. I already took half a day off today, and I can’t take another leave tomorrow!”

Taking half a day off had cost him 80 yuan, and Sun Dahai felt the loss keenly. But no amount of money was more important than Yingbao’s safety. Now that he knew she was fine, the lost wages were worth it. He could always work overtime to earn it back later.

“Of course, I’ll go. But I don’t even know where this place is—how am I supposed to get there?”

This was exactly what Yang Xiuhua had been pondering. As a rural woman, even though she had been in Bincheng for some time, she rarely went anywhere beyond the areas near her home. She had no clue how to reach the address Zhao Jiaying had sent her!

“If you really don’t know the way, just take a taxi. The driver will surely know where it is!”

Sun Dahai also had no idea where that place was. Ever since moving to Bincheng from their hometown, he had been working at the same factory in the area, with neither the time nor the spare money to explore other places.

“Take a taxi? That must be expensive, right?”

Yang Xiuhua was so frugal that she rarely even took the bus, only making an exception when she had to visit their son at Downtown Hospital. For those trips, she would reluctantly spend a few yuan on bus fare because, without it, she wouldn’t be able to get there at all.

Now, hearing that she might need to take a taxi to find Zhao Jiaying, she hesitated. Their family was already struggling financially, and a single taxi ride could cost them an entire day’s worth of groceries!

She wasn’t being stingy—her family was truly poor. Their son, Sun Huayang, had been sick for a long time, draining all the savings that she and Sun Dahai had worked so hard to accumulate. On top of that, they had accumulated significant debt. Every month, whatever little they earned was mostly used to repay their loans.

“We can’t be stingy with this money. We have to make sure Yingbao is safe. Yunxi entrusted Yingbao to us, and we must take responsibility for her safety. Otherwise, how will we ever explain it to Yunxi?”

Sun Dahai wrapped an arm around Yang Xiuhua’s shoulders and continued: “Xiuhua, don’t worry about the money. If needed, I’ll just skip my rest days this month and work extra shifts to make it back!”

For years, the burden of supporting the family had rested entirely on Sun Dahai’s shoulders. Even if he worked overtime without taking any days off, his monthly earnings barely exceeded 8,000 yuan. After deducting their living expenses, everything else went toward repaying debts.

Yang Xiuhua’s heart ached for him. She worried that if he pushed himself too hard, he would end up harming his health.

“Husband, you’ve worked so hard all these years!”

“It’s not hard at all! As long as our family can stay together, no amount of hardship or exhaustion matters!”

Good people will be rewarded. Heaven always watches over the kind-hearted, and their reward would be arriving very soon—because Zhao Jiaying was their family’s little lucky star!
