Chapter 13
The last class in the morning was math.
The math teacher was about thirty-five years old, with small eyes and poor vision, adorned with a pair of silver-framed glasses. One of his habits was starting classes early and ending them late, a true model of dedication in the teaching profession.
When Wen Susu, who also served as the representative for the language arts class, was moving homework from Old Man Lin into the classroom, she noticed that the math teacher had already started his lecture.
She remembered the head teacher had asked her to speak to each subject teacher about Su Miao Miao’s situation before their classes, and this made Wen Susu feel annoyed with herself.
—
But the math teacher was already halfway through the lecture; she couldn’t possibly interrupt him now.
With a bit of wishful thinking, Wen Susu shouted “Excuse me!” and then went straight back to her seat.
The majority of the class passed without incident.
After teaching new material, the math teacher, as was his custom, assigned a test question for the students to complete on the spot.
In the first row, in the corner.
Not long after the math teacher had begun, Shang Yan took a pair of wireless noise-cancelling headphones out of his desk, put them on, and then laid his head down to sleep.
Su Miao Miao had just started the problem when she heard the quiet and even breathing of someone close by, gently reaching her ears.
Out of curiosity, she slightly lifted her cap’s brim and cautiously looked to the side.
The person was sleeping with his head on his arms.
The sunlight coming from beside Su Miao Miao cast a thin, warm gold layer on the clear and deep features of his face, and the light shadows of his long eyelashes fell across his pale, cold skin.
From her angle, his eyelashes seemed long and thick.
…
It made one want to reach out and gently touch them.
The thought surprised Su Miao Miao, and she quickly averted her gaze and lowered her head.
At that moment, the math teacher stood from the podium and began to stroll through the classroom.
Walking down the innermost aisle of the classroom, he stopped abruptly after a few steps.
He paused for a second, adjusted his glasses, and exclaimed in surprise:”Did your class get a new student? I just noticed… But why is he wearing a hat and covering his face during class?”
…
Su Miao Miao stiffened.
Li Shijie had told her that Wen Susu would explain the situation to all the subject teachers privately; how could it be…
Before she could finish her thought, seeing that the math teacher was already becoming displeased with the silent girl, he said:
“Could you stand up for a moment?”
…Su Miao Miao slowly stood up. Apart from Li Zhe and a few others, the boys in the class had always been curious about Su Miao Miao, who never spoke or showed her face. Now, hearing the math teacher’s “lead”, they couldn’t help but tease:
“Teacher, our new classmate is so mysterious, she hasn’t even introduced herself.”
“Yeah, let alone showing her face, she’s never taken off that hooded coat!”
“I don’t know why she hides so much…”
“What can she hide? Probably she is too ugly to see- Ouch!”
The last boy, rubbing his head, exclaimed, “Who hit me– Li Zhe, why did you hit me…”
Li Zhe was so angry that he wanted to kick him. As soon as he heard the bad comments, he wanted to remind these fools, but they spoke so fast…
“Are you looking for death?” Li Zhe lowered his voice and threatened, while glancing at the figure sleeping on the desk in the first row.
The boys who also knew about the “master-disciple” relationship between Shang Yan and Su Miao Miao were silent, not daring to breathe.
The math teacher at the front didn’t care about the situation here. Seeing that the girl stood up obediently, she wondered, “Is there some unspeakable secret, so she can’t take off her hood?”
While speaking, the math teacher curiously bent over from the side, trying to see what was hidden under the brim of the hat.
Su Miao Miao stiffened slightly, instinctively shrinking her narrow shoulders, pressing her face even lower. Wen Susu couldn’t help but stand up. “Teacher, she–”
“…Teacher Gu.”
A lazy, hoarse voice suddenly interrupted Wen Susu. The classroom, which was still whispering, became quiet as if the mute button had been pressed.
The classroom fell silent.
In the first row, Shang Yan, who had spoken, had already stood up, his eyebrows slightly furrowed. His leaning forward body, propped on the desk, just blocked the math teacher’s view of the girl’s face under the brim. The math teacher stopped awkwardly.
“Uh, student Shang Yan…”
“If it’s an unspeakable secret, then it’s personal… personal issues shouldn’t interfere with your teaching, right, Teacher Gu?”
The voice was hoarse. The boy’s dark eyes still had traces of sleepiness and fatigue, and a hint of coldness hidden deeper. There was no emotion on his clear and handsome face. His thin lips also showed an expressionless chill.
“Ah, indeed it doesn’t interfere, if it’s a personal issue, then forget it…”
The math teacher awkwardly walked around to the other row.
Only then did Shang Yan straighten up, revealing the girl behind him. He turned his head and glanced at the source of the previous noise–
“Who else is curious?”
His tone was even colder. Those who had spoken before, one by one, quickly hid their heads behind their books. The coldness in Shang Yan’s eyes faded slightly, and he turned back. His gaze fell on Su Miao Miao, who was still standing, and there was a hint of softness in his eyes.
“…It’s okay now, kid.”
Su Miao Miao’s fingers, which were tightly gripping the edge of the table, relaxed slightly. She sat back down with Shang Yan. When her attention finally returned to the problem, Su Miao Miao suddenly heard a faint teasing voice outside her hood.
“Kid.”
“…?” “Were you secretly staring at me just now?”
“…!”
Su Miao Miao’s body stiffened instantly. After two seconds, she slowly shrank back. Next to her. The boy’s dark eyes were filled with more and more laughter.
…
Perhaps because of the awkward incident during the class, the math teacher surprisingly ended the class early.
After telling the students to wait for the bell before leaving the classroom, he took his books and left. As soon as the teacher left, the students started chatting.
..
Because of Shang Yan’s sudden question during the class, Su Miao Miao had been shrinking in her corner of the table, now staring blankly at the book in front of her.
Until a voice cut through the noise and suddenly sounded from the back of the classroom–
“Wen, the class beauty, can I ask you a question?”
“…”
The sudden incident during the class left Wen Susu feeling complicated and uneasy, glancing towards the first desk.
Hearing this, she turned her head and asked with a frown. “What question?”
The person asking the question laughed, “Li Zhe said he saw you and a little beauty having dinner together last weekend, is that true?”
“Hey, that’s right, I want to know about this too!”
“I’m more curious– Zhe was so excited during the break, almost the whole grade knows about it now!”
“Just listen to him bragging, he’s almost making that little beauty out to be a goddess, even saying she’s prettier than Shu Wei!”
“Prettier than Shu Wei? Can’t be…”
“…”
Those increasingly irritating words “little beauty” kept drilling into Wen Susu’s ears.
Her face turned pale and green, her expression ugly, but subconsciously she looked towards the first row.
How ridiculous.
No one in the class knew that the “little beauty” they were talking about, who was so stunning, was ridiculed as “ugly” by most of them just half a class ago.
And now she was just wearing a grey hoodie, hiding in a corner they didn’t pay attention to.
Wen Susu turned her head back in annoyance.
However, some boys had noticed her actions just now. But those few people laughed without hesitation after looking over–
“Wen, the class beauty, why are you looking at Yan when we ask you a question?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“But speaking of it, Yan also met that little beauty, didn’t he?”
“…”
A few boys fell silent for a moment, but in the end, there were still those who dared to ask for “beauty” at the risk of their lives:
“Yan, is the little beauty you met over the weekend as beautiful as Li Zhe said?”
“…”
Su Miao Miao’s pen stopped.
Shang Yan was doing his work with his eyes downcast, and he looked up slightly when he heard the question.
The image of the girl in the white skin and red skirt flashed through his mind.
He thought for a moment.
“Well, she’s beautiful.”
The boy’s voice was as calm as ever, but it was enough to excite the boys at the back of the classroom–
“Wow, it seems that she really is a little beauty who is even prettier than Shu Wei!”
“I regret so much, why did I go to that damn tutoring class that day, why didn’t I have the nerve to go and have a meal!”
“Prettier than Shu Wei… even if I could only see her once…”
In this noise, a female voice suddenly spoke out of control– “Shang Yan, have you fallen for her too?” The speaker was Wen Susu. This question shocked everyone, and the boys in the back were even startled. Regaining their senses, they hurriedly remedied– “No way.” “Yeah, everyone in Senior Three is saying that Yan and Shu Wei are…” But before they could finish, they saw the boy in the front row, who was facing the whole class, move. Shang Yan scoffed. Then he reached out and ruffled Su Miao Miao’s hood. His voice was lazy and unserious, teasing with a smile– “No. I still prefer kids.”
