“Welcome.”
I bowed my head meekly, a truly loyal Ambrosia’s extra maid. I hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary since I’d transmigrated here for fear that my transmigrating fate would entangle me with this perfect family. Even Sarah, the female protagonist and archmage, would never know I was a transmigrator. Never, ever, ever…….
“Ah, Miss Juliette!”
Sarah suddenly stopped in her tracks before me and called out to me with a smile as bright as sunshine.
“Yes, yes. Lady Sarah.”
“I was wondering if you could spare a few minutes later?”
“Pardon? Why…….”
“Fufu. I bought a gift for Miss Juliette, and I’d like to give it to her when we’re alone, so you can look forward to it.”
“Oh.”
Sarah looked up at me and smiled. My heart tightened in my chest. Why would she give me, a mere maid, a gift, and one that was supposed to be given to me alone?
‘It’s ominous.’
What could I do, something was wrong. ‘I’m doomed’ was the thought that ran through my head. Sarah was such an attentive female protagonist that she memorized every single one of the extra maids’ names, so you’d think she’d know the name Juliette, but in the novel, the only maids she sought out were May and head maid Ronda. And the only people who visited were those from Count Millen’s family.
‘Was this body I transmigrated into close to Sarah? It’s just not described in the novel, but maybe they were.’
I hadn’t realized that the maid, Juliette, wasn’t even mentioned in the novel, so there was a lot of day-to-day life here that I hadn’t seen, that hadn’t been described. I swallowed hard, feeling a cold sweat run down my back, and then I suddenly felt resentful.
‘Why can’t I be happy in front of Sarah?! Why do I have to be like this?!’
I wanted to pull Oliven out of my arms and coldly present him to Sarah, begging her to let me go. ‘This bastard transmigrated me here, so please kill him and send me back to South Korea.’ However.
[Our agreement cannot be told to anyone, and if you do, you will pay with your soul.]
Oliven, this bastard made an oath with my soul without my knowledge. I didn’t know what a magician’s oath was, and why he’d risk his soul for nothing, but now that I thought about it, I was pissed again.
“Miss Juliette? Is this too burdensome for you?”
“No! I’m delighted! Haha, I’m so happy that I’m speechless! You even brought a gift for me, which I’ll keep as a family heirloom for generations to come.”
“Oh my? It’s not that grand of a gift. Shouldn’t you be disappointed when you receive it?”
“Oh, is there any reason for that? It’s from the female protago, no, Lady Sarah, so…….”
Sarah glanced at me worriedly for a moment, then patted her chest as if in relief. How could a person be so beautiful with just that one small gesture? The exhale she released made my heart flutter and I felt like it would fall to the core of the earth.
“Well, if you have time later, I’ll go to Miss Juliette’s room.”
“What? No, you don’t have to…….”
“I think Miss Juliette’s room would be the best place for us to be alone, there are too many eyes on us otherwise.”
“…….Yes.”
I could only nod meekly as Sarah went on and on. Was my room clean, with flowers in a vase and wine set out for the occasion? Or would I make Sarah’s favorite tea? In a flash, my mind was filled with visions of a sweet time alone with Sarah. Then Ethan glanced at me, then at Sarah, and asked.
“Sarah, is this a gift I’m not supposed to know about?”
“Of course not, that’s why I said I wanted to give it to her when we were alone.”
“Hmm.”
Ethan’s eyes darken with disapproval. He was obviously jealous of me, getting to receive Sarah’s gift alone, and in private. As charming as it was to see Ethan’s narrow-mindedness when it was just Sarah, the pressure in Duke Ambrosia’s eyes was unbearable. Come to think of it, he was a pretty scary guy in the original, too, after he’d just about destroyed the world.
“Huh? Juliette, why are you shaking?”
“It’s, it’s nothing! Thank you for your concern, Young Master Claude.”
I couldn’t help but squirm, and Claude was looking at me with those adorable, loving, mesmerizing eyes, worried about me. God, he was so cute. I felt like hugging him tightly and running around the world with him, and for once, I didn’t resent Oliven for making me come here.
“Uh, uh? Juliette, nosebleed!”
“Pardon?”
“You have a nosebleed!”
A startled Claude exclaimed, pointing at me. Suddenly, I could feel the sensation of liquid running down my nose. I casually ran my finger under my nose, and a reddish liquid came out. Claude was so cute, I guess I had a nosebleed.
“Ugh, blood…….”
Well, I was late to mention this, but I actually had one particular phobia, and that was blood phobia. I fainted at the sight of it.
“Ah.”
My vision was starting to go black. I could feel my body going backward.
[Haeng-in!]
I could hear Oliven in my arms calling my name like a scream. I wanted to tell him to shut up, but this terrible phobia. One look at blood and I couldn’t get myself together…….
* * *
Sarah quickly picked up Juliette’s collapsing body. But picking up an adult woman whose entire body had lost strength was quite a task. Unable to overcome the weight, Sarah swayed.
“Sarah.”
Ethan picked up both Sarah and Juliette with one arm. Sarah looked up and smiled at him, then gave him a grateful nod.
“Thank you.”
“……You almost got hurt.”
Ethan replied a little bluntly, his ears reddening. He knew Sarah was sweet, but what if she’d fallen while picking up the unconscious maid, and she hadn’t seemed inclined to seek help, even with him here. Ethan wished she would rely on him more, that she would be unable to do anything without his help.
“If I fall, I know you’ll pick me up like this. I won’t get hurt.”
Sarah leaned into his arm and sighed, marveling at the muscles in his arm that never wavered.
“Alas, be at ease.”
Ethan let go of his grip as Sarah smiled harmlessly at him. Claude, who had been watching them, shyly looked at Ethan’s arm and said.
“……Father, I want to join you when you work out.”
“Alright.”
Ethan nodded, the corners of his eyes now turning a faint shade of red as well as his ears. Seeing his approval, Claude smiled happily and grabbed Sarah’s hand, shaking it.
“Mom, Mom, Mom. Is Juliette afraid of blood?”
“I think so.”
Now that he could confidently refer to Sarah as his mom instead of his nanny, Claude was having a lot of fun calling her mom. Sarah found it both cute and frustrating. She felt like Claude was bragging that he was now a child with a mother and that he was using his voice louder and louder in front of other people.
‘I guess he can still act a little more like a child.’
