I Eloped With My Lover’s Sworn Enemy
I Eloped With My Lover’s Sworn Enemy Chapter 28

Bai Ying was at a loss for words.

It was as if she had lost the ability to speak, and could only stare blankly as the workers installed the bathtub and cleaned up the mess on the floor.

Afterward, the manager, with a smile on his face, led them away.

This was beyond her imagination; she couldn’t fathom why someone would install a new bathtub in a hotel.

Such an unbelievable event was happening right before her eyes.

Jiang Mocheng wrapped his arm around her and walked over, bent down to look at the bathtub, satisfied but not completely.

He was well acquainted with the hotel’s big boss, and he had an annual lease on this suite. As long as he wished, a simple phone call to the manager was all it took to replace a bathtub.

However, it was all too rushed, and they could only temporarily settle for this small bathtub.

Turning around, he saw her still staring at him blankly, her dazed expression quite adorable.

His dissatisfaction dissipated like smoke, and he straightened up. Affectionately, he stroked her hair and caressed her neck.

“You can take a bath tonight.”

He thought Bai Ying was so moved that she was speechless.

Indeed, this was the first time he had done something like this.

After leaving her room last night, he didn’t go straight back to his own. Instead, he called the boss and discussed the fastest viable solution with the manager.

Bai Ying almost blurted out, ‘Are you crazy?’

Controlling herself, she asked incredulously, “Wait, why would the hotel agree to such a request?”

The request was so unreasonable!

It was so outrageous that she couldn’t help but think that the manager’s final smile at her was a bitter one, right?

“Why wouldn’t they agree?”

Jiang Mocheng said, “I’m paying for it, the labor costs, the damages.”

Including the extra overtime pay for the staff, all from his account, why wouldn’t they agree?

Was this supposed to be difficult?

Bai Ying stood there for a second, speechless.

She looked at him steadily for a while, then conceded, “The hotel staff must think I’m a lunatic.”

Birds of a feather flock together; you don’t get two different kinds of people from the same nest.

If he was a lunatic, then she, by his side, was probably a lunatic too. That’s what the hotel staff must think.

“What did you say?”

She spoke too softly, and Jiang Mocheng didn’t hear her clearly.

“I mean, there’s no need for this, it’s just a few days’ stay.”

Seeing his attitude so open and generous, Bai Ying even thought she might become influenced by him, as if changing the hotel’s bathtub was not a big deal.

“A few days’ stay means a few days of baths.”

He disagreed, “If you want to bathe, then it’s necessary.”

It was just that Bai Ying was quite experienced and had seen plenty of men’s crazy antics to win favor over the years; otherwise, she would have doubted whether she had found a fool.

“Are you not happy?”

Jiang Mocheng frowned and asked her.

From the beginning until now, he hadn’t seen her smile, nor had he heard her say she liked it. If she were really happy, she would have hugged and kissed him the second those workers left.

“I am happy.”

Bai Ying gathered her thoughts, sat on the edge of the bathtub, looked up at him with a smile, “I’m going to take a bath tonight!”

Whether he was a fool or not, she could enjoy a bath tonight, and that was a good thing.

Living in this world, it’s inevitable to go crazy sometimes, as long as it doesn’t affect her, as long as it doesn’t cause her trouble, of course, she can generously understand and tolerate.

Jiang Mocheng looked at her for a while, “As long as you’re happy, that’s good.”

After saying this, he continued to watch her, as if waiting for something. Bai Ying, seeing that the bathtub was dry, sat down in it with interest, leaning her head back against the edge, and met his dark eyes.

Their gazes locked, he grabbed her arm, and with that force, she sat up, quickly understanding what he wanted.

Just like a little child.

Waiting to be rewarded with a little red flower by the teacher.

Bai Ying wrapped her arms around his neck, and he had to lean down. She didn’t skimp and took the initiative to kiss his face.

“I’m especially happy.”

To be so happy over such a small thing. She really was cute.

He hummed, eyeing the bathtub that could only fit one person. If he were to install a large bathtub at home that she could swim around in, he didn’t know how happy she would be.

Zhao Minghai didn’t go straight home after leaving the Shen residence but went to a club he frequented.

After taking a seat, he looked at the composed Zhong Wenhui and complained in a drawn-out tone, “You’re quite leisurely, unlike me. I’ve finally returned to the country, and now I have to get busy again.”

Zhong Wenhui, also a talent unearthed and promoted by Shen Jin, naturally knew some internal news that others didn’t.

Hearing this, he glanced at Zhao Minghai, “Haven’t found her yet?”

“No, Brother Shen looked terrifying. Don’t you think this is strange?”

Zhao Minghai lowered his voice, also looking puzzled, “How did Miss Bai, just a graduate, manage to leave without anyone noticing?”

Zhong Wenhui said, “Someone helped her.”

“Don’t say that in front of Brother Shen.”

Zhao Minghai reminded, “I think Brother Shen would skin that person alive.”

Zhong Wenhui shook his head, “The problem isn’t with that person.”

Zhao Minghai was straightforward and not so delicate, “What was Miss Bai thinking? Instead of staying at home waiting for Brother Shen to come back, she staged this drama. What for? If she ends up freezing or starving outside, who’s to blame?”

Zhong Wenhui smiled and didn’t pick up the conversation.

What for? Of course, she wanted to marry Shen Jin.

Women don’t understand men. Using such tactics to pressure Shen Jin, even if he agreed for a moment, there would definitely be a rift between them.

She’s too young and simple-minded, not steady enough.

Staying by Shen Jin’s side for ten or eight years, persistence would pay off, and things would naturally work out. But she chose to take an unconventional path, fell short, and exhausted that little bit of affection, leaving nothing behind.

In the end, it would all be in vain.

“Let’s not talk about this.”

Zhao Minghai took a sip of his drink and said mysteriously, “There’s something even stranger. Jiang Mocheng actually asked to meet with Brother Shen, saying he has something to discuss. Isn’t that odd?”

The usually calm Zhong Wenhui’s expression changed slightly, “What?”

Zhao Minghai laughed, “You also think it’s as if the sun rose from the west, right?”

If he hadn’t heard it himself, he wouldn’t have believed it.

Zhong Wenhui was distracted, almost failing to hold his wine glass steady. The wine sloshed out, spilling over the table.

Zhao Minghai noticed something was off and asked with a frown, “What’s wrong with you?”

Under Zhao Minghai’s persistent questioning, Zhong Wenhui knew he couldn’t hide it any longer and finally spoke with a gloomy expression.

It turned out that more than a month ago, they all heard that Jiang Mocheng had made significant progress in securing the Southeast Asian airline route. Naturally, this was urgent.

Shen Jin was a generous boss, and as one of the initial core subordinates holding some shares, Zhong Wenhui was particularly concerned about his own interests. He made a foolish move and secretly infiltrated the Jiang family.

It was a close call. Zhong Wenhui still regretted it to this day, just missing the chance to get the documents.

Zhao Minghai came back to his senses, shocked, “Are you crazy?”

“You’ve kept this matter tightly under wraps!”

Zhao Minghai quickly remembered that Zhong Wenhui had chosen an excellent time for his actions.

Brother Shen’s grandmother had just passed away, and Brother Shen had to arrange a trip abroad for business, naturally leaving him stretched thin.

Any other time, Zhong Wenhui’s underhanded tactics would not have remained hidden for so long.

“Don’t you know what kind of person Brother Shen is?”

Zhao Minghai looked as if he had seen a ghost.

“Hasn’t he been competing fairly with Jiang San these past few years? And do you not know what kind of person Jiang Mocheng is? Have you not heard about him? Is he someone who would suffer in silence?”

“So, is Jiang Mocheng seeking out Brother Shen to talk about this matter?”

Zhao Minghai’s forehead broke out in sweat, and he leaned back as if drained.

“You must tell Brother Shen quickly. They are meeting tomorrow, and if he doesn’t know anything by then, would he not lose all face in front of him?”

This is an underhanded matter. Either don’t do it at all, or do it so well that no one can catch you.

Looking at Zhong Wenhui’s expression, it’s clear that Jiang Mocheng must also have evidence. If he throws it out there, how will Brother Shen carry on afterward?

Zhong Wenhui’s face was also as dark as water.

Zhao Minghai looked at him with pity, blaming only his bad luck for getting into such a mess at this critical juncture.

Early Monday morning.

Jiang Mocheng knocked on Bai Ying’s door.

Bai Ying had just woken up and was naturally unhappy, pouting and looking at him displeased.

He chuckled softly, reached out to pull her into his arms, and planted a kiss on the top of her head.

His hot breath sprayed on her ear, “I might return very late today. I have things to handle in the morning, and I’ll make a trip back to Jincheng in the afternoon. Do you want to come with me?”

He asked, but he knew this lazybones would definitely not agree.

Sure enough, she shook her head, replying impatiently, “No!”

“If things go smoothly, I should be able to make it back by seven or eight o’clock, and then I’ll join you for supper.”

He paused, thinking about Shen Jin’s decision on this matter.

Shen Jin, that smiling tiger, how could he possibly refuse something that doesn’t harm him in the slightest?

He should be secretly pleased that he hasn’t come to settle the previous grudge with Shen Jin.

“Mhm, mhm, mhm.”

Bai Ying nodded perfunctorily.

Jiang Mocheng, smelling her scent, closed his eyes and said, “Soon, all these matters will be resolved.”

Once resolved, he would gradually reveal his identity, take her back to Jincheng to meet her parents, and his parents.

After finally sending him off, Bai Ying’s drowsiness vanished. She sat on the bed, cursing him several times before getting up and heading to the bathroom.

After washing up, she left the house.

She didn’t head to the exchange but hailed a taxi to the residence of Jiang Mocheng’s maternal grandparents.

In just a few days, the magnolia flowers within the courtyard walls had withered, and the branches had become bare.

She noted the address, and as she got into the car, she looked back thoughtfully.

In fact, she had never been interested in his background. After all, she could foresee that their time together would be short, so why waste the effort?

But thinking back to the bathtub incident yesterday, she still found it very strange. Not to mention that the matter had already exceeded the range of what normal people would accept.

If she were the hotel staff or even the manager, and a guest complained that the bathtub was dirty and wanted to replace it with a new one, she would probably want to dial the number for a psychiatric hospital to have him taken away.

Spoiling her like this, this is a hotel, not his home!

But the problem was, the hotel agreed and did it.

Bai Ying vaguely sensed something was amiss, but she didn’t know exactly what was wrong.

Her first reaction was to simply find someone to check out this family. Since his maternal grandparents’ home was here, as long as she had the address, basic information should always be available, right?
