Yang Yue was not very happy.
Previously, he had shown some tolerance towards Jing Tian always hanging out with Zheng Xunqian, but now, he wasn’t as accommodating.
“At least you should have discussed it with me beforehand,” he immediately frowned after Teacher Xia left, “Can’t you two separate from each other? Am I going to be like a third wheel in the dormitory from now on?”
Jing Tian vigorously shook his head, “I really didn’t know!”
Yang Yue frowned, somewhat skeptical, “He didn’t discuss it with you?”
“No, he didn’t,” Jing Tian said, “I don’t want to live with him either.”
For him, interacting with Zheng Xunqian was exhausting. One could easily get flustered and nervous, always on edge and careful not to show too much freedom. It was draining, and the thought of seeing him every day in the dorm made Jing Tian blush just by imagining it.
He genuinely wanted to maintain their private space with Yang Yue.
Yang Yue squinted, displeased, “He’s really living in his own world, without any sense of propriety. You should go and talk to him now, tell him not to force things.”
Jing Tian hesitated for a moment.
“…Don’t want to go?” Yang Yue asked.
Jing Tian quickly shook his head, “No! I’ll wash my hair first and think about how to bring it up with him.”
Yang Yue’s dissatisfaction was understandable.
Leaving aside how enjoyable it was for two people to have the dorm room to themselves, in Yang Yue’s eyes, Jing Tian and Zheng Xunqian were practically a couple, and no one would want to share a room with a couple.
Yang Yue was usually easygoing, but his current obvious displeasure made Jing Tian realize the severity of the situation, and he couldn’t take it lightly.
There were classes in the afternoon, and although they would see each other then, it wasn’t convenient to discuss things in class.
Jing Tian decided to meet Zheng Xunqian in advance and convey his attitude seriously.
After washing his hair, he immediately sent a message to Zheng Xunqian.
Zheng Xunqian replied promptly.
Jing Tian’s intentions were completely misunderstood, making him feel awkward. After hesitating for a while, he decided that it wouldn’t hurt to talk things over while eating, so he agreed.
About half an hour later, they met at the entrance of the dormitory area.
Zheng Xunqian arrived first.
He was tall and stood upright, looking very imposing from afar. Even if his face couldn’t be clearly seen, he would still be recognizable.
Zheng Xunqian quickly noticed him and waved as he approached.
When they got closer, Jing Tian was surprised to find that Zheng Xunqian was smiling.
This was rare; most of the time, he had a serious and inscrutable expression.
As they walked, Jing Tian realized that Zheng Xunqian’s gaze was fixed on the top of his head.
After some consideration, Jing Tian hadn’t faded the new growth of black hair on his head. The light pink hair dye didn’t color well, so it now looked like a warm brown.
This was Yang Yue’s suggestion.
Repeated fading was bad for the hair and could make it dry and brittle. It was better to wait for the black hair to grow longer before considering it again.
And there was no need to worry about it not looking good.
Silver and black together looked abrupt, but the cherry blossom-like light pink color combined with warm brown was harmonious.
Jing Tian was very satisfied when he looked in the mirror earlier, and now, seeing Zheng Xunqian, he felt a bit expectant.
But Zheng Xunqian just smiled at him and didn’t mention it.
“We’re going to a place we’ve been to together before,” Zheng Xunqian told him as they walked, “We can take the opportunity to reminisce.”
Jing Tian thought to himself that it might not have been a joint trip after all. Based on past experiences, they were more likely to have just bumped into each other at that place.
He didn’t say it out loud, but it seemed like Zheng Xunqian heard his silent criticism and continued, “I guess you secretly followed me that day.”
He instinctively wanted to deny it, but upon careful thought, it wasn’t entirely impossible.
In this world, there weren’t so many coincidences; someone must have had ulterior motives.
Past him was really good at embarrassing present him.
These awkward memories were too embarrassing. Jing Tian quickly changed the subject and brought up the main issue, “There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
Zheng Xunqian looked at him, “Hmm?”
“Did you apply to change dorms with the teacher?” Jing Tian asked.
Zheng Xunqian hesitated for a few seconds before responding, “I did mention it. I want to move to your dormitory. Is that okay?”
Jing Tian frowned, “It’s not about whether it’s okay… You should have asked me first before applying…”
“I haven’t formally applied yet,” Zheng Xunqian said curiously, “Why, did Teacher Xia mention it to you?”
“Teacher Xia and the dorm manager came to find us just now… They said we should tidy up in advance…” Jing Tian said, feeling awkward.
He had initially thought that Zheng Xunqian had deliberately acted first and then reported it later, but now it seemed that it wasn’t the case at all.
This was embarrassing.
Zheng Xunqian nodded, “I did mention it, but only verbally. I think he went to talk to the dorm manager.”
“When did you talk to him?”
“At the last class meeting, he came to ask me about your situation and if there was anything you needed help with,” Zheng Xunqian hesitated, “I mentioned it to him then, and also told him…”
“Told him what?”
“Told him I would come and confirm with you that night.”
Jing Tian was speechless.
“…Too many things happened afterwards, and I accidentally forgot about it.”
Zheng Xunqian said.
Indeed, a lot happened that day.
Yang Yue was forced to cross-dress for missing the class meeting, and he spent an indescribable night with the person in front of him under the influence of alcohol.
Jing Tian blushed deeply.
As a university class teacher, Teacher Xia was overly concerned about the students. Perhaps he assumed that they had already communicated, happened to talk to the dorm manager, and mentioned it casually.
This enthusiasm both touched and pained Jing Tian.
Zheng Xunqian was unaware of his dilemma and continued, “There are four people in my current dormitory, one snores, one grinds their teeth, and another talks in their sleep. It’s like a noisy trio before midnight. It’s too lively. Your dormitory happens to have space, and it would be convenient for me to move in and help you with your studies. Isn’t that great?”
“Um…” Jing Tian was distressed.
One way was to directly say that Yang Yue didn’t want him to come. However, in doing so, Zheng Xunqian might have some words for Yang Yue. As a middleman, Jing Tian wanted to handle it better, but he couldn’t think of a solution at the moment.
Seeing his troubled expression, Zheng Xunqian understood and said, “It’s okay, I’ll just tell Teacher Xia.”
“What will you say?”
“I’ll say that after thinking it over, it’s unnecessary to cause trouble,” Zheng Xunqian said, “It was a misunderstanding in the first place.”
He spoke without much expression, seemingly indifferent.
Jing Tian observed carefully for a while, and his unease gradually grew. Zheng Xunqian must have noticed his gaze but pretended not to. He just stared straight ahead at the road.
This already indicated something.
What should he do? Jing Tian was worried.
“…It’s also good to study in the small study room,” he tentatively said, “It’s more atmospheric than in the dormitory and helps you focus better.”
“Hmm.”
Zheng Xunqian nodded.
The atmosphere fell silent again.
Jing Tian bit his lip, gathered his courage, and asked, “Um… Is the color I dyed my hair nice?”
Finally, Zheng Xunqian reacted slightly and glanced at him, “It’s not bad.”
But there was no follow-up.
Jing Tian worried for a while. As they were already out of the school gate, he suddenly had an idea, “I’ll treat you later!”
Zheng Xunqian didn’t respond.
“Because… because you treated me to milk tea yesterday,” Jing Tian nervously tried to explain, “Oh, by the way, Yang Yue said thank you for treating him to milk tea.”
“He should thank you.”
Zheng Xunqian said.
After walking a few more steps, Zheng Xunqian sighed lightly, stopped, turned to him seriously, and said, “Think about it again?”
Jing Tian didn’t react immediately, “What?”
“The dormitory I’m in now is too noisy, and I can’t sleep well at night.”
Zheng Xunqian said.
After staring at each other for three seconds, Jing Tian almost agreed on the spot.
He took a deep breath and said, “This… It’s not just up to me. I have two other roommates, and I need to get their consent.”
“Two?” Zheng Xunqian was surprised.
“Yeah,” Jing Tian nodded, “Besides Yang Yue, there’s one more.”
He decided to discuss it with Yang Yue again after returning. If Yang Yue firmly disagreed, he would shift the blame to that unfamiliar roommate who never showed up.
Zheng Xunqian took him to a spicy hot pot restaurant.
Almost the moment they walked in, Jing Tian was certain that his past self must have been a stalker to engineer such a coincidence.
He couldn’t eat spicy food at all; there was no way he would have voluntarily come here.
“You can try the tomato soup base; I heard it’s pretty good,” Zheng Xunqian suggested.
Jing Tian breathed a sigh of relief.
Zheng Xunqian glanced at him and continued, “It was just introduced recently.”
After saying that, as if reminiscing about something, he lowered his head, and a noticeable smile appeared at the corner of his lips.
He was smiling.
Jing Tian’s face began to burn again.
It had just been introduced recently, so his past self must have ordered the spicy soup base.
Even if it was mildly spicy, it would be too stimulating for him, and he would probably end up with a runny nose and tears.
Zheng Xunqian was probably recalling the embarrassing scene of his past self.
After they finished ordering, sitting face to face at the table, Zheng Xunqian still had a smile on his lips.
“…Do you think I’m silly?” Jing Tian asked awkwardly.
“Why would you say that?”
“I remembered,” Jing Tian lowered his head, not looking at him, “The day I wrote my name in your book, you called me crazy.”
Zheng Xunqian didn’t respond.
Jing Tian raised his head, but as soon as he made eye contact with him, Zheng Xunqian’s gaze drifted away.
“Is that so,” Zheng Xunqian looked at the aisle beside them, “I don’t remember.”
“Were you annoyed with me before?” Jing Tian asked again.
Zheng Xunqian didn’t turn his head, “No.”
“You used to throw away the little notes I passed you in class without even looking at them.”
Jing Tian said.
Zheng Xunqian sighed helplessly, “You remember all these weird things.”
Passing notes was not something he remembered on his own; he saw it in the emails initially.
But whether seen or remembered, they were all things that would be classified as “weird” by Zheng Xunqian.
“There’s no way around it, it’s just this kind of thing,” Jing Tian asked him, “Did anything else happen between us?”
Zheng Xunqian was silent for a few seconds, then finally looked at him again, “You choked on the spice that day and sprayed it into my bowl.”
Although it was somewhat off-topic, Jing Tian was subconsciously stunned by the terrifying scene after imagining it.
“It’s true,” Zheng Xunqian emphasized to him, “It was quite a spectacle.”
“…I’m sorry,” Jing Tian apologized, then hesitantly asked, “Did you scold me that day?”
“No,” Zheng Xunqian said, “Because after you sprayed, you cried and sniffled, saying you wanted to treat me to a meal.”
After he finished speaking, he lowered his head and smiled again.
