Lingquan Space: Fortunate Wife of a Farmer’s Family Chapter 63

Chapter 63: Punishment

But now, Xiao Bao’s father suddenly came back and seemed to be a formidable person. He could hold him, play with him, and stand up for him when he was bullied.

As they were about to leave, the woman blocked Wang Jinhe’s way, saying, “Stop, you can’t leave. You beat me and want to just walk away? It’s not going to be that easy.”

“You must compensate me, pay me ten taels of silver,” the woman told Su Yu, thinking that this guy was rich, so they couldn’t leave without paying.

Su Yu looked the woman up and down and said, “Compensate you? Okay.”

The woman’s eyes lit up, and she was about to say something when she heard Su Yu continue, “When Yuanbao has beaten enough to cover ten taels of silver, that’s when we’ll compensate.”

“These two slaps might cost a few dozen wen in medical expenses. With ten taels of silver…” Yuanbao hesitated and turned to Su Yu, “Young Master, if we really beat enough to cover ten taels of silver, we might end up killing her.”

Wang Jinhe’s mouth twitched as she watched Yuanbao. Did this guy really intend to beat enough to cover ten taels of silver?

She couldn’t help but think that Yuanbao was quite the stereotypical tough guy. Nevertheless, he thought that Yuanbao did a good job.

“You deal with it yourself; if you want ten taels of silver, there’s always a price to pay,” Su Yu said indifferently.

With that, he carried Xiao Bao on his neck and continued, “We’re going home.”

“Take it slow; don’t let Xiao Bao fall,” Wang Jinhe advised, watching Su Yu’s haste.

“It’s fine; how heavy can Xiao Bao be? Besides, I’m holding onto him, no need to worry,” Su Yu replied as he walked on.

Wang Jinhe followed behind with the kite, occasionally checking on Xiao Bao, worried that he might be scared. However, to her surprise, the little one wasn’t scared at all; he was actually quite delighted.

Wang Jinhe shook her head in amusement. It seemed like children in modern times were the same. They all enjoyed sitting on their father’s shoulders because it allowed them to see far and wide.

Xiao Bao looked around in wonder, enjoying the ability to see things from such a high vantage point.

Wang Jingyu watched how Su Yu interacted with the child and suddenly understood why Xiao Bao liked Su Yu so much. With a father who could set aside his pride to play with him, how could Xiao Bao not like him?

Upon returning home, Su Yu put Xiao Bao down, but the little one still seemed reluctant to let go.

Wang Jinhe playfully pinched Xiao Bao’s cheek and said, “You little guy, you’re not worried about falling at all. You seem so excited.”

“I can see things really high and far up there,” Xiao Bao exclaimed enthusiastically.

“You can see very far indeed.”

Wang Jinhe straightened up and looked at Su Yu beside him. “How’s the watermelon selling on your side? There are quite a lot of ripe ones lately.”

“It’s definitely selling very well. The ones that ripened recently were already sold out at five hundred wen when I arrived,” Su Yu replied, raising an eyebrow and smiling at Wang Jinhe.

Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu in astonishment and said after a moment of surprise, “You swindler.”

She sold them for fifty wen, and this guy managed to sell them for five hundred wen, which was outrageous.

“I’ll pick more tomorrow and send them over. With that first batch leading the way, this next batch will definitely sell even better,” Su Yu replied with a smile as he looked at Wang Jinhe.

“One hundred wen per jin,” Wang Jinhe said sternly.

“No problem.”

At one hundred wen per jin, after factoring in transportation costs, he could still make at least three hundred wen per jin.

Wang Jinhe, with her lips twitching, said, “I suddenly feel like I’ve set the quantity too low. I should’ve just sold them to you for two hundred wen.”

Gu Shi glared at Wang Jinhe and said, “You, this child. Su Yu doesn’t need anyone to sell them? It will still take some time to transport them from here, and during that long period, some of the melons might go bad. Isn’t this normal? Are you still shameless enough to want more?”

“Melons won’t go bad. When these melons are transported back, they will still be quite fresh,” Su Yu said with a smile. He didn’t know if it was because Wang Jinhe had grown them exceptionally well or for some other reason, but these melons were noticeably better than others. He had never tasted such delicious melons before.

Wang Jinhe didn’t say anything. As long as the melons weren’t dropped, they wouldn’t go bad. They could stay fresh for ten days or even half a month, probably due to the influence of the spiritual spring water.

“That’s good, but don’t just agree with everything Xiao He says. Aren’t you earning money for yourself?” Gu Shi advised.

Wang Jinhe pointed to himself and asked, “Who’s the biological child here? Was I the one who was adopted?”

Gu Shi gave Wang Jinhe an exasperated look and said, “You two are just moving money from one pocket to another within the same family. Are you both shameless enough to accept money?”

Wang Jinhe, feeling indignant, retorted, “Why would I be shameless? These are the fruits of my hard work.”

Su Yu, amused by Wang Jinhe’s spirited defense, found it endearing. He quickly reassured her, “It’s alright. Whatever you say goes. If I want to buy what you’ve grown, it’s only fair to pay for it.”

Gu Shi looked at Su Yu’s resigned expression and said, “Treating this girl like this, you’ll end up getting bullied by her sooner or later.”

Su Yu replied nonchalantly, “It’s alright. Xiao He has suffered a lot in recent years. Even if she bullies me a bit, it’s fine.”

Wang Jinhe, seeing Su Yu’s attitude, was left speechless for a moment. She felt that she should refrain from bullying him too much.

After observing these two for a while, Gu Shi finally understood that both of them were willing participants in this dynamic – one willing to tease, and the other willing to endure.

“Alright, since both of you say that, what else can I say? You two seem to be a perfect match,” Gu Shi said with a hint of exasperation.

She couldn’t understand why, even though they were a family and would eventually share the earnings, they still wanted to keep things separate.

Wang Jinhe was quite satisfied with Su Yu’s attitude. She understood that while they would eventually become a married couple, they hadn’t reached that stage yet. Until then, they needed to treat each other like  siblings and keep accounts clear. It wouldn’t be fair for Wang Jinhe to provide her produce for free just because he was Xiao Bao’s father, especially when the family had expenses to cover.

Su Yu reassured her, saying, “Once we’re officially married, I’ll let my friend handle the sales. You can charge whatever price you want, and we can earn more money without any reservations.”

Wang Jinhe asked, “You want your friend to handle the sales? Who are you thinking of?”

Su Yu smiled and explained, “I have a friend who’s also in business.”

Wang Jinhe calculated the potential earnings and furrowed her brow, saying, “But this way, we’ll end up earning much less overall.”

“I’m partnering with him,” Su Yu explained.

Wang Jinhe was surprised and asked, “Are you helping me take money from your friend?”

Su Yu replied, “It’s not about taking money from him; it’s about giving him an opportunity to earn. Besides, these fruits and vegetables will be for your parents, right? You won’t make any money from them.”
